Are gloves really necessary?

Hygiene, prevents smudges & light scratches from their nails. I prefer them to wear gloves for those reasons
You have a point there. I once went to Balenciaga Boutique here and the girl who showed me the bag I wanted had nails longer than my cats. She presented the bag and scratched it right in front of my eyes. Of course I didn't buy the bag as they didn't have another one in the color but I told her she had to be a little more careful as the leather on these bags is so sensitive and if she showed it to many customers every day the bag would have obvious problems. She was so offended I didn't buy it, I excused myself politely and I left with fear of her scratching my face as well. Hahaha!:D

Gloves are actually a good idea given the porous nature of vachetta. (warning:microbiologist here). With the current preponderance of alcohol based hand sanitizers, gloves protect vachetta from being stripped of its natural defense against normal flora.(I.e. think sneeze)

I think LV is trying to ramp it up, trying to imitate the manner that the SAs from the more expensive brands are doing. I know Chanel has been doing that for a while, Hermes too...Prada etc. just started....

Certainly SAs should wear gloves for Haute Maroquinerie, the Parnassea line, Nomade or any exotics, because the bags are so valuable and even the smallest mark would make them unsellable.

Moreso the bags are delicate. Gloves are a sign of respect to not just the client but also the artisan who made them.

I was in the monogram section looking at a Cles and mini pochette, and they needed gloves to touch those...

I don't find it silly...but I don't mind if they wear gloves while presenting me the goods.

It was silly to me because my SA introduced me to a new person and she took off the glove to shake my hand, put it back on to show a bag, took it off to serve drinks, put it back on to show bags, took it off to check someone out. Plus they were big ugly gloves!

I guess maybe they don't want an SA who is wearing lotion or something touching the fresh vachetta??

Before the gloves I never had issues with my vachetta... Plus after showing me bags on the floor usually my SA gives me a bag from the back. She knows I'm super picky so she checks them out thoroughly to my specifications!!!

I like it, I've seen some spots on vachetta on brand new bags. Most of it is probably from being inside macys and people asking to see the bag and then not buy it. I wonder how the sales associates feel about it, must be a little odd for them.

That's just silly. Monogram canvas is already coated with some kind of plastic material... so why use a glove? I agree, however, that Nomade, Box calf and exotic leather goods should be presented to the customer wearing gloves. It's just better for the leather.

I guess I don't get the point of the SA wearing gloves then handing it over to me (who is not wearing gloves) then putting it away...it still got touched. It's not the SA's hands that I'm usually worried about. At least they know what they should and shouldn't use before handling products, some customers don't.

It would make sense to me if LV were to require its customers to wear gloves as well while they are handling the merchandise. They are more likely to muck up a bag than a SA IMO.
