Are Discontinued Bags More or Less Appealing?

Haha, I thought most people say (jokingly) that they shouldn't have joined TPF cos they ended up buying so many bags.

A discontinued bag won't make me want it more if I didn't before, but it does affect how I feel about letting go of it since I know it will be hard to get again.

That is because I wasn't aware of so many nice bags out there! [emoji24] I live in very small, dead town n don't see much designer bags here. I didn't fly to capital city so much to look around at bags so I missed a lot!!!

Another reason is because only through TPF I came to know Balenciaga bags from certain years r simply too yummy! Or certain colors r so special.

- I wished I bought Bal from years '05-'07.
I wished I knew about Bal Holiday Hamilton's
I wished I bought brogues Bal bag.

- I missed out on some discontinued LV n now ended
up having to buy preloved (stressful). N some can't
b found.

- I wish I knew about Mulberry Alexa Camera n
Rosemary.

Oh man, I can go on n on........

I don't mind discontinued pieces at all. I've also got a lot of discontinued Coach pieces, and sometimes prices stay the same with discontinued pieces (and, occasionally, rise), so I shop carefully. There's an entire subculture of vintage Coach collectors.
In LV, everyone usually wants the latest and greatest leather or timeless coated canvas pieces, so discontinued epi or vernis leather styles and/ or colors can work nicely with my budget. No one in my area would care, know, or notice that that they're discontinued, and since all of my pre- loved LV is in excellent condition, I have no qualms carrying them in more metropolitan areas.

I am converted into Vintage recently [emoji7]

Oh n here's a pic of a discontinued Gucci Crossbody Ostrich bag I just purchased hours ago. I don't even know what is the name or what year it was sold. Once it was authenticated, I bought! So pretty....how can I not love discontinued? Lol

When I first heard that the GST was getting discontinued I wanted to run out and buy a few because I love the bag. But after careful thought I realized that I'd likely tired of them within 2 years after they'd been fully discontinued because I think they'd eventually look dated like the cambon tote

THIS!!! I also almost ran out and bought one but had the same thought. It may look dated in a couple of years. And, honestly, if I really had wanted one, I would have bought one.

A bag being discontinued doesn't make me want it more. It actually makes me pause and think that perhaps I should wait so that I don't get something obviously of a certain time period.

That being said, I buy pre-owned as well as new bags. So, if it's being discontinued, I may wait it out and snap one up like new a couple years later for a fraction of the cost. For bags that aren't "it" bags I've found this to be a fun strategy. Hunting a bag is like a game to me. 😊

My criteria for buying a bag is: I love it, I run across it new or in like new condition, its at a good price (could be a sale or just a price appropriate for that bag), it will add something significant and positive to my wardrobe / lifestyle, it has good resale.

What a good idea to find those bags after few years [emoji16]

I find these responses very interesting!!! It seems like sometimes people get more crazed when the companies are threatening to discontinue it. I heard that they might also discontinue the LV Pochette Metis and I wonder oh man, should I or shouldn't I? On the one hand, it'll be gone...on the other hand, will it look passé?

And here's the point. A year after this quote and it's back in stock only far more expensive. I nearly bought after being told in the Edinburgh shop it was the last one but resisted. That was at least 8 months ago.

Is it a shame to wear a discontinued bag? Like CELINE’s trapeze
Anyone who shames you is an insecure idiot. So, absolutely not. Enjoy your bag. :amuse:

Often some of the very best, truly fashionable looks will seamlessly merge styles of today with iconic or interesting pieces from the past. Cookie cutter “on trend” looks - while they may be pretty - aren’t transcendent or inspiring.

I happily wear what I want. I’ve even matured to get over my silly worry about wearing past “it” bags.

So, have fun!

I don't think it is a shame. I watched this lady that was a guest on a daytime talk show who inherited her grandma's wardrobe. Her grandma had 4 closets. Onefor each season. She never threw anything away. She was very stylish. I think I am going to turn two rooms into a spring/summer and a fall/winter closets.

I carry discontinued bags all of the time. The ones I have go with my personal style. I recently got comments on how cool the shape of my Givenchy Pandora was. A couple of years ago, some liked my Chloe Paraty bag. The trapezoid shape was different.
