Are Discontinued Bags More or Less Appealing?

When I first heard that the GST was getting discontinued I wanted to run out and buy a few because I love the bag. But after careful thought I realized that I'd likely tired of them within 2 years after they'd been fully discontinued because I think they'd eventually look dated like the cambon tote

I've got a Cambon, I still wear it, it's so light compared to other Chanels. It's basically just a tote

It's only a matter of time before the revival :D

I've been buying Coach and those bag styles don't last more than a couple of years (except in the resale markets). So if there is one that has the style and all the features I want, I get it. If it's a must-have, I'll get it at the first sale usually. If it's not a must-have, I'll take my chances and look for it at the outlet later.

So the knowledge that it will be discontinued plays a role in my decision.

It's (relatively) hard for me to find bags I love and would use. It takes a lot of time. When one that I want and have a niche for becomes available, I get it so that I am not in the position of needing the perfect bag to replace one that has worn out, and not being able to find it in the timeframe I need it.

This is an interesting question. If you are inquiring if whether or not the threat of a bag being discontinued increases my desire for it, the answer is no. But if you are asking if my love for a bag lessens AFTER I have already purchased it and it gets discontinued I would have to say that I love it more!

To me, a bag only looks dated if the style was a "flash in the pan" trend. But otherwise, if the model and make is classic and was discontinued for some odd reason I would find it even more desirable. Case in point, I own a LV Trevi, and I think it's shape is timeless. It's in damier, which a staple LV print. I also love vintage Chanel, and those models are definitively discontinued, but oh so unique!

In fact, I think a great Purse blog would be "The top 10 discontinued bags that we love"! :)

+1 We need this!!! Fantastic idea lordguinny :idea:

The only way an item being discontinued influences me is if I haven't purchased it yet, but had planned to do so. I'll buy it sooner than later. If I had no intention of ever purchasing the bag, I wouldn't do so because it was now being disconintued. I also wouldn't stop loving or carrying a bag for the same reason either.

Agree.

If I love it and already have it I love it more. I don't really care if it is in style or not. And I have to admit that I would want to get it a tiny bit more if I didn't already have it.

Ditto

There r so many discontinued pieces from different brand I wish I have! Arghh I should've joined TPF much earlier [emoji22]
Haha, I thought most people say (jokingly) that they shouldn't have joined TPF cos they ended up buying so many bags.

A discontinued bag won't make me want it more if I didn't before, but it does affect how I feel about letting go of it since I know it will be hard to get again.

Good idea, I'll give you mine but these are in no specific order:

1. Hermes 404 - probably cost too much to produce though
2. Gucci Catherine - I only have it in one colour
3. Marc Jacobs Venitia/Blake with suede interiors - I'd love a dark green version
4. Gucci Bamboo handle slim briefcase - they do make one this season but it's a lot bigger, not so lady-like
5. Hermes Initial - no hardware
6. BV original Veneta - so easy under the arm in the Maxi size
7. BV Belly - I was just about to buy one if found in the right colour
8. Fendi beaded evening Spy - I couldn't afford it when it first came out in 2004
9. Gucci sterling (real) silver evening bags - you can imagine how much those would cost now
10. Hermes original Massai - great large hobo

There's got to be some irony involved in a bag called 404 being discontinued.
Otherwise, your list is fab!
