Apple Garde v. Patina Champ - An Experiment!

New to this thread. I just treated one of my bags with Apple Guarde for the first time. Dried completely. I made sure not to over-saturated it while spraying. I did a few coats and let it dry into between coats.

My question is should I bother to spray my older vachetta bags with Apple Guarde now? They already have some patina and water marks on them. Would spraying it help to prevent future marks? Thanks!

I just polished the Speedy! The leather looks and feels great! No water spots, but I think it is a tiny bit darker than it was before the Patina Champ treatment (as I expected).

And here’s a pic comparing the two bags now, after the Apple Garde on the Neverfull (and carrying it three times) and after the Patina Champ method on the Speedy (haven’t carried it yet):

So far, I’ve been pleased with the results of both methods. I don’t think either method appreciably changed the color of the vachetta. However, I’m guessing that the Speedy will develop a patina faster than the NF, since the Apple Garde will probably slow the patina process on the NF and the Patina Champ method might slightly accelerate the patina process on the Speedy.

But the real test will come when I get caught in the rain for the first time with each bag! Will there be water spots or not? If so, will they be permanent or will they fade away when the bag is dry? I’ll definitely post updates when that happens (because we all know it WILL happen eventually)!
Hi!!!
This was so helpful! Thanks.
I was wondering. Now that it’s 2 years later, can you post a pic of both of your bags? I would love to see how they aged with both methods.
Im about to spray my toiletry 26 tab so I’ve been doing so much research.
Thanks in advance!

Here is my bucket bag, which is about 5 months old. Used patina champ method multiple times and then also sprayed with Appleguard. No water stains. I do love the slightly warmer color of the vachetta. I’ve been caught in the rain with it multiple times. No spots. And I should say when I I used the patina champ method my cloth was more than damp.

Your bag looks great. Can I just ask how soon do you spray your bag with apple guard from new and do you condition it as well? Thanks!

Hi. I am just curious how quickly did you polish your neverfull after the apple guard method from new? I read here that the Apple guard dries the leather somehow after treatment.

I love how your bags turned out!

I’m not the original poster but here is my speedy 25b before and about 3 years later after spraying apple guard. I admit not using it regularly.

Look after spraying

Then wiped with water wipes
