Irissy I don't know how reputable they are but I do know their diamonds are not the best quality. But if you have a trade in policy there it would be worth looking into.

Aww really? :push::sad: That's where he got it from. Ah well, I'll go check it out and see what they have.

Give the SA your parameters for a minimum color/clarity and see what Kay has to offer. Sometimes even the "discount chains" will have some decent stuff tucked away or that they can order. My absolute minimum diamond color/clarity is GH/SI. If I can't get what I want in that, I'd rather have cubic zirconia or do without!

Wow, my store took my earrings back for a full-trade in with no strings attached.

I just walked in with my receipt, took my earrings out and found a bigger pair (and paid the difference). It was great.

Sorry but I don't understand... I thought when they mean "double the purchase price" it simply means that for a $300 necklace, I can trade it in for a $600 jewelry? Or is this just wishful thinking? :push:

He got this when he was just a poor college boy so it's not a $1000 necklace. :shame: I wish!!

Just give me some cheap studs and I'll be happy!! :p

Edit: Ok, I just re-read the policy based on your interpretation and it's now more clear to me. I think you're right about it. I'll still drop by the store and check it out. I don't mind applying some $ towards a new bling.

hehe...i don't have any $1000 necklaces either. :supacool:

definately check it out. my friends have all been really happy with their trade ins.

we did the same with our diamond studs and it was fantastic!

good luck, irissy!

That's what I'm doing with a diamond necklace that was bought for me a few months ago. I'm trading it in for a pavé heart necklace and paying the difference. :-)

Happy to help. I hope you find something yummy. :smile1:

Helzberg is a chain jewelry store with mostly what I call "DLD"s (dirty little diamonds), however they also carry a higher end line. I got some diamond 1/2 carat total weight studs set in platinum that were EF color SI clarity and came with the certification. The price was pretty good too. I still have them tucked away actually. I may have to check out what they have and see if I can find something for myself. They also have the trade up policy.

Ok, so I went to Kay Jewelers today to check out some diamond earrings and ask about their trade-in policy. You ladies are right! I need to buy something that's double the price of my necklace to do the trade in. So this nice SA helped me and took a look at my necklace and receipt. It stated that the price was $300 back in 2002 and per their policy, that would be my trade-in value plus 5% annual appreciation. SA told me $300 is my trade-in value so what happens to my last 4 years of appreciation then? :hysteric:Then she said the $300 covers the appreciation. I think she's BSing me! Anyway, she pulled out some nice earrings and there is one that caught my interest. It was a 1/2 carat white gold earrings on sale for $599 ($799 original price... so it seems). I asked her about the color and clarity. It's G color and S1 clarity. Not sure if that's decent for that price but I kept that in mind and walked away. Meanwhile, my shopping buddy wasn't helping me at all. She was like "buy it.. buy it!!" My plan is to come back after my vacation and have another SA to talk to before deciding on that earrings. It is beautiful and very shiny. :p So what do you ladies think? Did I make the right decision? I just feel like the SA was a bit shady.

Afterwards my friend was like, "so you can buy a $1000+ handbag w/o a blink of an eye, but it takes you FOREVER to decide on a $300 earrings (the price I would pay on top of the trade in)? Damn right honey! :roflmfao:
