Not a single problem with mine. It's a terrific bag. CFC said the same thing.

I find it odd that someone would create an account simply to bash Coach. This is not the first time, so I've come to expect this. I still find it annoying.

This! Did you notice their user name? I'm still fairly new to the forum, but have caught on quickly to this. It gets annoying fast.

And for the record, the Nomad is wonderfully constructed.

Believe me, I love the design of the bag. That’s why I bought it! I figured the first bag was an anomaly because with the high volume of production, some bags won’t be perfect. It was just frustrating to have the second bag do the same thing.

I did not realize Coach has a 1-year warranty, but I’m not going to take the time out to exchange it again. It just isn’t worth it for me to do so. The first time I went to exchange it, the sales clerk had a tone claiming it was wear and tear and was not particularly helpful. Fortunately I had my sales receipt to show that it was only a week old. I like the design enough to want to exchange it vs. returning it. I am just writing it off as a bag with a flaw. I decided to glue the tear hoping it will stick and use it until it wears out.

It is the exterior of the bag that has the paper thin leather glued to what appears to be a vinyl base. Both bags were the stone color. Maybe I was just unlucky to have both bags tear, and they were small tears, but enough that you could see the dark base that, frankly, was frustrating to see.

I did not post to “bash” the brand but merely to express my disappointment in the quality of the bag. I would be willing to pay a higher price and would be a fan of the brand if they would go back to using quality materials it used during the 80s – top grain leather and solid brass hardware. I agree with the original poster of this thread, Coach should reconsider its business plan and retool its branding. It could continue capturing the fashion-forward market with different designs and fun colors, but still offer “their original classics, with the great leather, and amazing handmade craftsmanship.”

Welcome to the forum, sadaboutnomad. Could you please post a picture of the tear?

It may also be helpful to visit the Nomad clubhouse and ask other Nomad owners if they have had any problems with this bag. I haven't, but maybe someone else has. Yes, pictures would help, but I suspect the pictures would be better at the Nomad clubhouse for Nomad owners to check out. Just a thought.

Personally, I think it's better to give people the benefit of the doubt. Just because we haven't had the problem does not mean it doesn't exist.

While I can see your point, in this instance when someone's user name is created to solely point out a single item that they are complaining about, it is irritating to me. And that's my personal stance.

I think that's why some have asked to see pictures?! Maybe if we see it, we could be on the look out for it on our Nomads?! Jmo

I think these posts and possible pictures would work best in the Nomad clubhouse, and that's what I suggested. If other Nomad users saw the photos, it would be helpful. I know in the past, some people posted a couple problems in clubhouses like the straps on Dakotahs or the winter floral print. Those are places where others could be helpful because that's where the owners of specific bags are. JMO

I understand that some would like to see pictures. I own Nomads myself and I'm curious. What I don't understand is bashing newbies and making them feel unwelcome.

Of course, this has wandered OT and as was said, the Nomad complaint should be moved to the Nomad Clubhouse for discussion.

You seem to be very knowledgable about the vintage quality of Coach and the ways in which they should adapt their business model to fit this current climate, so it's surprising you were unaware of their 1-year warranty. Not judging, it's just puzzling.

Anyway, as you can tell the Nomad is an extremely popular bag here that is well worn by many. Because these handbags are produced in volume, it is inevitable that when quality issues arise, it is likely to be experienced by quite a few of us...eventually. To experience defects (tears in leather) twice in such a short period of time is certainly unprecedented, and as Coach lovers, we would like to know where this occurred as this has not been the collective experience of Nomad owners. I was more active on the LV board, but generally we are fairly honest and open about defects experienced, even on bags we love, as a mode of sharing information to help each other out.

I also think you are doing yourself a huge disservice by not taking advantage of the warranty. The nomad is not cheap and you really shouldn't keep a defective item you are unhappy with just because not wanting to deal with a snotty SA. My suggestion would be to calmly take the bag back to the store and express to the store manager your dissatisfaction with the second exchange and that you would like a comparable store credit to purchase another bag better to your liking, or at worst perhaps another Nomad in a different color (since Stone is discontinued). Regardless of whether they say it's wear and tear, you are not satisfied with it's condition after a limited use, therefore you need to be accommodated for it.

I was not aware of the warranty because I stayed away from the brand for decades, so I did not focus on the warranty aspect because it didn’t even cross my mind to question it. But that said, I did in fact do as you suggested. I went back today and exchanged it for another nomad – the saddle one. You know, I actually really like this bag. I want this bag to last. That’s why I was so frustrated because it makes me question if the bag will last more than one season.

I also agree that the volume of production will have some bags with quality issues, but I just couldn’t believe that it would have it happened twice in a short timespan. Maybe the dye lot for the stone-colored leather had issues? Who knows. I regret that I didn’t take any photos of the tears so I could post them here. I will say that the tears occurred on the outside where the bag creases, located at the top third part of the bag. I think what happened was the creases created a tiny air pocket, maybe where the glue wasn’t 100% sealed, which then, through friction from use, caused it to tear.

And yes, I felt like I did get bashed here for sharing my experience with the bag. Thank you to the poster who brought that up. I felt like there was an accusatory tone like my experience really didn’t happen. Why would I make that up? And who has time to waste posting about something that didn’t really happen? I was venting my frustration and disappointment because I like the bag and want it to last!

It is a beautiful bag...I have the saddle but haven't carried it much yet. That is interesting to hear about the stone having those issues twice. I have one with the tags still attached I have been debating the light color. This makes me think more seriously about whether or not I will keep it. Hope this saddle one has no issues for you!
