I love princess-cut. But it seems like almost everyone that posts on this forum doesn't rank it as highly as other cuts. How come? Do people prefer newer styles such as cushions, novo, etc? Do princess rings not sparkle as much? Do you think princess-cuts are generally less expensive? Just wondering.......

I had one for 9 years before we changed it. I don't prefer sharp corners and as I learned more about diamonds I started liking the faceting less and less.

Hokaplan, there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with Princess cuts if that's what you like. My jeweller told me that these particular cuts however, are one of the least expensive cuts of diamonds on the market and are quite common- the reason the price for Princess cuts is lower.

Round is the most sparkly cut there is. I personally don't find Princess "as pretty" but that's ME and MY OPINION. I think cushions and step cuts are my next favorite after rounds and modified rounds.

i love it too. that's the cut of my engagement ring. i wanted something classic, but different than the standard round brilliant. it shines and sparkles just as much if not more than i want it to. ;)

i used to, but not so much anymore. i guess for me, it was mainly because i see them a lot—they almost became too common. which isn't necessarily a bad thing, so i guess for me, it appeared to be more trendy. not saying that it is, just that's how i feel about it.

I think that people just like what they like, but cuts trend in and out of popularity. I remember in the late 1990s everyone wanted princess cuts.

For myself, I prefer the Asscher cut which is a fairly old cut that has seen recent popularity.
I have always loved the marquise shape also and it gets absolutely ZERO love! LOL....

I think it's a personal preference thing, not that there's anything wrong with princess cut stones.

As Swanky mentioned, I don't like princess cuts because I don't like sharp angles or corners in my stones. My engagement ring is an Asscher. I also don't like the way princess cuts are faceted. It's all about the aesthetics, some people adore princess and others don't. That's why it's so awesome that there is such a wide variety of shapes on the market, everyone is guaranteed to find something they love. :smile1:

My E ring and studs are princess. I prefer round for the studs, but I wasnt happy with what they had in stock at the time and was too impatient for them to order me in what I wanted, so I just got them in princess. Sometimes when I lay my head on DH's chest he says the corners poke him and hurt. My E-ring Im thinking of offsetting the stone (kind of like a marquise), just to give it a little change.

I always wanted a princess cut ring since I can remember; I am not sure why. I recall being in college and looking through pictures of engagement rings and that was just the style I liked best! I think it is an aesthetic preference. I tend to be drawn to the clean lines of the cut. When I got engaged my now husband let me pick out the ring, and I chose to get a very classic princess cut solitaire.

I know that technically round cuts appear to be bigger, which is understandable. Although I have had quite a few people, even jewelers mistake my ring for being bigger than it actually is. I think the cut and the overall specs of the ring in regards to color and clarity really make the difference.

Princess cuts look classy. Personally, I prefer rounded-edged cuts BUT I think any well cut diamond in any shape is gorgeous! If I got a triple X Princess with good clarity and color, I would be ecstatic vs. a crappy cut round brilliant with equal good clarity and color.
