Anyone NOT liking black bags? Thoughts, opinions? Convince me otherwise?

I used to have all black bags because I felt they were the perfect neutral that went with everything. But now I have started using colors such as navy, Bordeaux and aubergine/eggplant instead. They give a pop of demure color at the same time as being good neutrals.
I think one of the reasons people chose black was because there were usually only black and brown available to choose from and your bag and shoes were also expected to match so people went with black.

I also dislike black bags. I always tend to gravitate towards browns, grays and bright colors instead. I do make exceptions though depending on the style. I love black Balenciagas and Coach tea rose Rogues. But majority of my bags will have some color in them as they cheer me up when I look at my bags.

As for clothes, I don’t wear black unless it is fall/winter. Also the clothes needs to have some color to make it more fun to wear. Whether it be on embroidery, as a pattern, etc. I don’t like wearing straight solid black, it seems so boring to me. I love colors too much to wear just one shade from top to bottom.

When I notice other people's bags I find they're often shades of brown. But I like black bags too. I have a variety of colors but probably more black then other colors.

I've learned that I like neutral, not too bright colors. I had a beautiful red tods bag and I found myself not reaching for it often Sold it

I own colors, plus couple black handbags.
As 2cello, my mother always chose practical black daily bags. Which soon were crammed to bursting & covered in cigarette ash. :-s
Not pretty memory.

Yet, my steadfast rule began: "Any bag costing >$5k will be black."
To be sensible. And hide dirt.
Really enjoy classic look & freedom of my black bags.
Then met hermes red tone I NEEEEEEEEEDED. And rule shattered.

My travel gear is black. As are my cycling bags.
Some rules stand firm.;)

I would need to look in my closet, but I think that I have 2 black handbags neither of which I carry. One, a Michael Kors, has sentimental value as it was my first Michael Kors bag. The other is an envelope clutch.

My bags run the gamut from brown to navy on the neutral side. To be honest, if you name a color, I most likely have it in my collection. Today, I’m carrying my PS1 Tiny in fuschia.

I used to be the other way, prior to 3 years ago I bought yellow, blue, brown and green bags. These seasonal buys just don’t seem as classic to me now all these years later. I don’t buy as often now. I have bought 5 bags in the last 3 years, 4 black ones and 1 red. happy with my choices as they are well thought out and not having to worry about colour transfer is a major bonus. Good luck with your search.

PS1 fuschia sounds gorgeous! I once had a Gucci too handle fuschia I love the color but should’ve opt for a red instead! I think a fuschia lady out there is definitely enjoying the bargain from me

Thank you. I feel like it gets harder for me to get the definitive black bag because I need to love it OVER the other colors to say yes!

As I wear colorful clothing black bags always work. That being said, black bags are a dime a dozen so it has to be outstanding in some way for me to pull the trigger - woven leather, beautiful embellishments, touch of exotic, unusual design, etc. I'm also trying to branch out to lighter color bags for spring / summer, but color is harder because it can clash with colors in clothing .

For me it depends on the bags style and leather. I LOVE black lambskin bags for example. Also if there's a lot going on with the bag (studs, zippers etc) I tend to go for black. However there are some black bags I have that I wish I could have found in a great color. Sometimes they're just not available.

I dont like black bag as well, only have one (balenciaga city plate because the plate breaks up the blackness)

interesting to read those of you that dont like black bag also dont like black clothes. am the opposite, i prefer all black clothes so my colorful bag will pop

I love black bags because they are chic and go with just about everything in my wardrobe. I wear black, grey, white, and saturated jewel / bright colors. (I don’t wear earth tones, pastels or muddled colors.)

I think the key is as others have said, the black bag has to be special with great design and / or embellishments. So, while I love black bags (5 of my 22 bags are black) they are absolutely the hardest for me to buy. I have to search a loooookng time before I find one a love enough to add to my collection. But when I do, it’s definitely worth it.

That all being said, I try not to overdo my use of my black bags so I limit their wear in warmer months and always try to switch into another neutral (metallics, grey, red) when I can.
