I know I’m the minority here but I’ve found that black bags never seem to be my first preference. They don’t seem to cheer me up or brighten up the summer outfits and always attract fingerprints. I also don’t wear black clothing and if I wear neutrals I tend to always brighten it up with a colourful bag.

I am thinking my next bag should be black (any excuse to get a bag right lol) Eg imo Balenciaga, Givenchy and YSL make great black bags but I always ended up gravitating towards their seasonal colors.

Love to hear your opinions and recommendations on what I should get. Also feel free to show me the black bag of your life!

I think it depends on the bag completely.

With a strong shape, amazing hardware or unusual texture a black bag can look out of this world wonderful.

I also go through phases. Sometimes I can't bear to wear any bag that isn't black and other times (especially Summer) black seems too heavy and dense.

Apart form my H Kelly, my most expensive bags are not black. When I go for a colour/shade it has to be perfect.

I have very few black bags that I bought in another life.. I know lots of women prefer black because it is supposed to go with everything.
Black bags ( and black clothes) are not on my list any more.
Most of my bags are brown, red or beige. I also like green and blue.
Colours that I can wear all year round. ;)

I like how you mentioned red bags, I know it’s a loud color but for me it seems to be the perfect neutral and goes with any outfit.

Did you used to carry a lot of black bags, what prompted the change?

For about 15 years i was getting colored bag , as i was bored wit the all black and brown bagsz
But lately , I’m seeking black bags of different sizes and models. But still colored seasonsal bags attract me but try to resist and stick with the classic bag. But sometimes i love a bag of color that i can’t resist.

My advice ,as yo already got lot of colored seasonal bags , get one black classic bag that you really love.

That’s how I feel about black bags in summer too, and imo even worse in winter because everyone is already dressed in black from head to toe. Obviously im not against black, just trying to work out whether it’s a phase or whether I’m inherently just attracted to color.

I don’t have a kelly yet but if I do I want it to be in the signature gold color.

Black bags are also typically not my first choice! I tend to like browns, beiges, navy blues and bright reds. Especially bright reds!

I agree with you that YSL makes amazing black bags. If I were to get a black bag I'd go to YSL first I think. I also agree with you on Givenchy.

How about Fendi? I think their Peekaboo bags are so beautiful. Some of the peekaboo models have different inside colours/patterns too, but the bag is still black. So essentially, its still a black bag :P;)

I particular love these ones with the eyes. I think they are in the men's line, but I really don't care. I love them anyway haha

I love black. Used to having nothing but black bags. Just go with what you like, no colour is a "must". I do find our tastes change as we get older so you never know you might start to crave blacks and greys a little later on in life. I am the opposite, I still do not do colour in clothes but occasionally indulge in a pop of colour in accessories. Gold is an all-season colour for me and a beautiful choice for a Kelly bag.

I didn’t realize this is a men’s bag! Great choice I would’ve pick this too, I also look at men’s bags and SLGs as they’re more edgy in black.

I used to... but then I was dressed in black from head to toes until I realized that there were other wonderful colours I was depriving myself of...

I do not own any black clothing so my bags do tend to be black, b/c I have to be careful of clashing with my colorful clothes and prints. I think a wardrobe has a lot to do with what color you might carry and tastes change as we age, too. I also tend to grow bored of bags and resell them and black always sells best. While it's not my first choice - brown or navy are - I know that black is basic, goes with everything, and is the most desired resale color. There does not have to be a this or that choice, you can have both colored and black bags, so have a mixture.
