Anyone have Gucci Ophidia quality issues?

Wow! I'm so sorry that happened to you. That must be so frustrating. I have the same belt bag and I just examined it closely to see if I could notice anything weird. The stitching looks good and everything seems to look even. The belt looks new and it is actually rather hard to slide in the back part of the bag. I guess that is good so it doesn't slide while worn.
I hope you get a better one! I got it from Gucci at the Beverly Center and the SA sent me photos before shipping. Very good customer service there!

Thanks for your reply. It ended up finally working out but not before I had to beg to look at new bags to replace mine. The first two that they showed me were not good. The 1st had a slightly crooked oval logo and the second had a big gap in the edging and it actually looked like it could be fake. They keep telling me these are made to look old but it’s clear the quality is not great. Anyone should be cautious buying one and be sure to inspect it carefully. I hope I end up enjoying mine. Enjoy yours too!

Wow! Meant to look Old? Ha ha. That's funny. The quality needs to be good or they will lose their momentum. I've bought waaaaaayyy too many Gucci bags in the last year and half and luckily they are just lovely.

Unfortunately I have the same issue and I’m waiting to hear back from my SA. I rotate my bags and I’m very careful.

I've noticed the poor quality in this line as well! (On my bag, anyway). I have the crossbody Ophidia in suede, and the stitching came loose on the strap after my very first wear. I also thought the GG was a bit crooked as well - not overtly noticeable, but still bugs me a bit.

@My private jet - I’m sorry to hear about your beautiful bag. The corner peeling would really bother me as well. You can always take it into the Gucci store to see what they say. The store I went to was pretty quick at giving me a replacement, but I hadn’t used the item yet. I have a few Gucci canvas vintage items - a tote, crossbody bag, cosmetic bag, and wallet (all given to me and 30 yrs old) and the canvas of all items are like new. Hardly any wear, no cracking or peeling, so I know that Gucci canvas can be good, like LV. But maybe they’ve changed the processing of the canvas, I don’t know. The old canvas does feel different than the new. It’s smoother and less grainy, it feels more coated and durable. Why would they change a good thing?! Anyway, let us know what they say when you take it in. Good luck!

The canvas is marketed as an "eco friendly" material on their website. Maybe they've switched to using something plant-based or less plastic-y/chemical-y to try to be more green? Either way, it sucks. How can LV (and even Coach!) have mastered the coated canvas but Gucci has not?

Unfortunately I have this problem as well. I’m headed to Nordstrom tomorrow to see if they will return it. I’d rather not exchange for a new one since this seems to be a known problem.

Unfortunately, I had the same issue with my Dome shaped bag except it was showing red in the 2 corners. I also had barely used it and was extremely careful with it.
I took it back to the Gucci store with the receipt and anything else it came with. They did keep the bag to send to the repair department to see if anything could be done. Took about 2 weeks and I was given the option of exchanging for a new one or getting something else that was equal or greater in value.
I ended up getting the black soho disco instead. I had been eyeing this bag as well. I was afraid that the same thing would happen again if I exchanged for the same one.

So I went to Nordstrom today and they said they would return the bag as a “one time courtesy” The sales associate / manager said she has the same bag and her corners rubbed off too and she knew it would happen when she bought it. She said canvas isn’t durable.... blah blah blah. I’m sorry but using a bag 5 times and seeing that kind of wear isn’t acceptable for me. Thankfully it’s all behind me now and I can pick something else from anywhere if I want.

I’m so relieved!! Honestly, I’m so undecided now!! I love this line and was looking at the bucket bag or even the mini bucket bag. No corners since it’s round! Haha I think I need to see them in person. My Nordstrom doesn’t carry any Gucci except for one card holder so I’m going to have to go to the actual Gucci store.

Just as an FYI only - there are 2 Nordstrom’s that have a LV boutique and you can use your Nordstrom’s card, notes, gift card. You can call the store and they will transfer you to the boutique. I have called from Dallas to order from Seattle. I have a SA there that is wonderful.
This gives you more options if you had something on your wish list besides Gucci.

Thanks for that info! Luckily she just credited my actual Nordstrom visa so if I want to buy something else, anywhere else, I am free to do so!
