OP, i also have a pear e-ring that was recently given to me by my mom. it's something she has promised me since i was 9 years old and i wear it everyday. i love it. my original e-ring is a emerald cut, and although i love it, i love my pear much better! maybe because it's an heirloom and will eventually go to my daughter, but mainly because it's a gorgeous setting.

the one thing i like about the pear shape is you never see it anywhere. it's very rare and even though i love the round/brilliant cut shape, i just hate that they're everywhere. that bugs me. but what it boils down to is how YOU feel. if you like it, then get it.

It's true - i very rarely see a pear on a newly engaged girl anymore. There was a time when they were very popular and many of my friends chose that shape - but then i am ancient LOL!
