Any thoughts on Pear shaped diamond?

I had a 3ct Pear (G VS2) Steven Kretchmer "tension set" 18kt YG e-ring. Got loads of compliments. A very unique look. Did quite well when a sold it!
BTW...gorgeous rings, Beljwl and Shanam (love the new band!).

I love the look and uniqueness of pears and I also like them stacked. Listen to your heart when you try the ring. A pear in itself is gorgeous but it should feel like it is really part of YOU and your unique style.

Thanks everyone, and so many gorgeous pear rings here!! I do like unique pieces, but wasn't sure if the pear shape looks good on my hand......it just seems 3carats is not substantial enough for solitare style on my hand..(I have fairy large hands and long fingers), so I thought it may look kind of "lost" because of a shape being unique......

I'm going to ask my vendor to bring in some 3carats plus round stone for me to see and compare.........

I think you need to go with D-E and VVS1-VVS2 because pear shaped diamonds reflect light from so many directions (which is great) but for that reason, are also prone to showing even the smallest of inclusions.

The cut is significantly more important for this shape. As you are probably aware, like the marquise cut, a pear shaped diamond can be prone to the bow tie shadow/effect (dark shadows in the middle of the stone that look like teeny bow ties.)

That said, I have seen some absolutely magnificent pear shaped diamonds, so if you find the perfect stone, I'd say go for it.

Thanks for your advise! I was initially worried about the bow tie effect for pear and oval, but this pear has no bow tie at all! It surely was a pretty stone! I'm just concerned that the pear shape won't perform as well as round cut diamond........

So, right now including this Pear I'm considering 3 stones:

(1) Pear mentioned above <Most expensive>

(2)Hearts & Arrow (AGS0 Ideal) Round 3.09 carat , G, VS1

(3)Vintage Cushion 3.13 carat, G, VS2 <Least expensive>

(2) is AGS0 Ideal, so it performs GREAT!
I have seen the pictures & videos of (3), and this also is a magnificent stone!!!

If these are your option, what would you pick???? I'm going crazy trying to decide here!!

out of these 3 probably the round-just bc it will never go out of style; very classic. again, it all depends on the stones that you are looking at. can you compare them all side by side? this is important.

I love my pear. It is brilliant cut, color F with VS2 clarity. Carat weight is 4.17 with .25 tapered baguettes. No fluorescence. V tip setting (platinum) Depth is 61.4% and table diameter is 52%. I have seen "fat" pears but am very happy with my proportions.
BTW I got another stacking band - antique platinum 1/2 eternity with love knots on each side and micro beading. I am done LOL

shanam, omg your pear set is gorgeous!!! i love your stacks too.

OP, i also have a pear e-ring that was recently given to me by my mom. it's something she has promised me since i was 9 years old and i wear it everyday. i love it. my original e-ring is a emerald cut, and although i love it, i love my pear much better! maybe because it's an heirloom and will eventually go to my daughter, but mainly because it's a gorgeous setting.

see pic below (sorry for the bad lighting).

the one thing i like about the pear shape is you never see it anywhere. it's very rare and even though i love the round/brilliant cut shape, i just hate that they're everywhere. that bugs me. but what it boils down to is how YOU feel. if you like it, then get it.

if/when you decide, be sure to post pics.

Round is nice and classic (I have a round solitaire myself), but I love specials. Indeed try out all the stones yourself and let them balance on your hand. I was just going to refer you to the gorgeous pear of onegirlcreative. But she already found this thread herself. She is a stacking queen. I love what she does with her pear ring in combination with various eternity rings.

Go for something special, but make sure you try them youself like vanbruntsa says.
