A friend who's in hermes reseller business said this but I am not sure if this is true..I don't really know her well.

I am not Chinese but it's hard to imagine this is targeting one specific group

So I am wondering if ladies here can explain this to me..some of these don't make sense and some of them I hope they are true

1. Hermes is having price increase starting Apr 15 by 40-50% (no further details sorry)

2. Hermes is closing down 28 jointly owned Hermes stores in Europe then will start closing down none company owned stores worldwide -----> I thought all Hermes stores in Europe are company owned like Chanel? This is one of the reasons why I doubt this is true

3. Hermes will scan passports for Chinese buyers and only 1 purchase per 12 month

4. Chips will be embedded in the bags and Hermes will be releasing apps to check bag authenticity based on embedded chips

Some of these are weird but I like the chip idea! What do you think?

Sorry but I think all of this sounds weird. Hermes made a loud public declaration that they wouldn't be increasing prices. It sounds extremely odd (and biased) that they would target only Chinese passport holders and as for chips and an app I'm sure that they'll continue to work on internal controls, I mean my cats have microchips with codes that register back to my contact info should one get lost and then found but I doubt it will be a public app that anyone can download. And there are still franchise stores but I don't see why they would close them all.

Hi calflu! I think your friend is misinformed. Sounds like this reseller is trying to potentially drum higher prices in the secondary market (and his/her business)? Also, the Hermes shop in T3 Heathrow is not owned by Hermes, my receipt has a completely different legal entity on the receipt.

Do you have any link to Hermes announcement?
I believe that H has already announced that they will not be raising prices in Europe this year. There was quite a kerfluffle about this in light of Chanel's announcement that they will raise prices in Europe in an effort to reduce price discrepancies around the world.

I feel her claims were all very weird too!!
The chips aren't targeted Chinese or any markets but mostly targeting fake hermes. I wish they could do so but the whole thing is just odd to me.

I don't believe all of her claims.

but I read thru a few pages of this thread and cannot find proof that Hermes is confirmed not to have price increase in Europe this year.

Do you have any link to share?

All I can find is this one

Thanks for the link, MrsO. I missed this the first time it was posted.

While I think having microchips for bags is a good idea, I doubt it's doable IRL. Somehow, someone will probably hack it.

BTW, a little OT but my Hawaii H SA mentioned to me that Chanel in Hawaii just had a price reduction a few weeks ago. This is because they get a lot of Japanese tourists in HI and and the US$ has been rising significantly against the yen. It used to be $1 for 100 yen and now it's 120 yen. So supposedly Chanel reduced their prices so that when you work out the exchange, it should still be about 100 yen exchange equivalent (or 20% reduction) on certain items. I was in Chanel but didn't ask the SA that was helping me there to confirm. Hope H could do the same for us Canadians shopping in the US. :p

The embedded chips idea is very doable just like major retailers have RFID chips in their merchandise. But I doubt any luxury brands will do so.

And wow!!! I don't know about Hawaii price redux!!!'[emoji33][emoji33][emoji33]

Fabfashion - That would be great news. Do you mind updating us if Chanel Hawaii reduces their prices ? They are not like H and will ship to the US continent. No sales tax for me too. I'll jump on the deal.

I totally agree on this! If this is true, it'll be a bargain and most of Chanel lovers will be excited about this

I'm not sure I understand how they can just reduce prices in Hawaii and not the rest of the U.S. Won't U.S. customers just try to get everything either by visiting or by calling the store and trying to have items shipped to them? I'm sorry if I'm missing something here (I'm a little obtuse sometimes)...

I think mainland residents can walk-in to buy, but not sure about shipping. Heard that Louis Vuitton stores and Saint Laurent or Balenciaga in Neiman Marcus (sorry for my bad memory) used to have a lower price in Hawaii. Louis Vuitton only allows walk-in purchase. NM did do phone order and ship to mainland, but they stopped that from the second half of last year

Hunh. My DH has been wanting to go to Hawaii - guess I should stop making other suggestions lol. Thanks. :smile1:
