I'd just like to say as a newbie to Chanel bags, this is a very interesting thread to read. I am in an unusual position where I have always been infatuated with Chanel for its history, impact and unique style, but as far as bags go I was very fortunate to go from 0 to 100 on a classic black flap in gold hardware and then by a miracle, stumble upon a vintage in pretty decent condition (to me at least) at a price I never expected to see in a 2nd hand shop in Japan.
I had been lurking around for a while before falling in love with the idea of carrying around a designer brand, as I typically a bit of a Luddite with most things but I really was drawn to the quality and formality. After reading about the recent decline in service, craftsmanship and materials while price-hiking I was really turned off the idea of buying new, especially when my pre-loved is almost 30 years old and full of charm and quality in spades. I would love a navy, charcoal, or grey Reissue 227 in caviar as my large"work-horse" for maybe $2,000 or so pre-loved, but that's probably never going to happen. Other than that I would be keen on something tiny in tweed in something pink or beige to match light outfits and then I think that would pretty much have me covered for a long while. I am the kind of person who really plans out a collection or goal before starting and I think 3 Chanel bags in different sizes and colors is more than enough for all my various occasions, and my dream tote is already a monogrammed "Rasa" from Lotuff and not a Chanel. In general if I never had another Chanel bag other than my classic flap, I would be content.
