Can’t imagine that her possessions would cost $2 million to replace. The home was a rental so she, as the tenant, should not collect anything for the loss of the house.

Glad that she and her pets were able to get outside. What a bizarre thing.
I agree.

oh wow, I just found this.

The fund raised already $183,450.

I agree. The lady should perhaps receive some compensation from the estate, but a $2M lawsuit sounds like taking advantage of a very unfortunate situation. The insurance possibly took care of rebuilding the house and other related expenses.
since this was a news story, I imagine some lawyer contacted her and offered his/her services. unfortunately that is the world we live in now. we have been bombarded with ads on TV for the camp lejeune water contamination. I see it mainly as a money grab from the lawyers.

I don’t know her exact circumstances but I have dealt with insurance… and often it sucks. I can’t blast a private citizen for asking for $ since I don’t know the value of her losses, the cost of replacing plus the sentimental value of items gone, etc…. and I’m sure the serious mental stress she’s gone through. Being displaced is expensive and traumatic, especially dealing with cancer…even her landlords agree since they started that Go Fund.
All of it was tragic, and senseless… too bad she hadn’t been stopped before crashing into 2 different homes.

I don’t blame the woman for going after money, especially in this day and age. She was actually harmed by Anne Heche. She lost everything except her life and her pets. The lawyers will ask for $2 million but they will settle for much less. Frankly, given how her relatives are fighting over her estate, I’d much rather some of it go to help this lady. There is talk that her estate isn’t worth much anyway, some are estimating only $400,000. It’s probably more than that but she had frittered away a lot of her money.

I read that there is very little in the way of financial assets or real estate but the estate will receive residuals from TV and movies for the forseeable future, probably years and years, especially if her TV series is popular in re-runs. That amounts to a fairly substantial amount of income per year, not millions, but a substantial sum so the estate should be able to pay this lady a reasonable amount to replace her belongings and help her get her life back together.

Often before insurance pays out on anything, they require a law suit to be filed. The tenancy agreement may also have placed liability for the residence on the tenant.

I don’t know the specific laws at play, I only say this to say - don’t judge her too harshly. No one knows her motivations. She certainly went through a terrifying and traumatic experience and has suffered significantly through no fault of her own. If there is legal recourse for her then she should avail herself to it. That’s not selfish at all.
