Wow, you must have really responsible friends! Unfortunately, everyone that I know has had one drink then driven home. I honestly can't think of 1 friend that hasn't driven home after 1 drink. Luckily, 1 drink doesn't put you over the legal limit to drive in the U.S.

I only know one person that's gotten a DUI. Interestingly, it was a friend's father that got pulled over after an afternoon of playing golf at the country club. He wasn't drunk by any means, but he had 2 to 3 drinks on the golf course and decided he was okay to drive 4 blocks home. He was going 30mph in a 20mph zone, got pulled over, then got arrested and charged with DUI.

This man clearly had enough drinks for a cop to be suspicious then. Most people who get pulled over just get a ticket for speeding and not asked to do breathalizers and other tests.

I'm not defending what Amanda Bynes did. I've said repeatedly what she did was wrong. But I'm not so above her that I feel the need to rip her apart, compare to Lindsay Lohan or call her a train wreck because she made a horrible mistake.

I'm really tired of people riding their moral high horses every time a celebrity gets into trouble and it makes the news.

I'm sure most people here have had a night of shame, when they've done something stupid that they later regret. The only difference is, most of us are "nobodies" and there wont be a line of paps waiting to snap our picture and it won't be splashed across the Internet and reported on gossip sites all over the world.

The next time someone goes to a club, has a couple of cocktails, and walks out of the club all sweaty, looking no worse for the wear, do you want someone snapping your pic, and rubbing it in your face the next day? Do you want people you don't even know accusing you of being an alchy or a train wreck, and tell you you're head down the wrong path - how dare you go out drinking with friends and have a few too many drinks, and leave the bar under the influence! Man, what a mess!

Or if your young daughter (or son) goes out with their friends and makes the wrong choice, would you call them a train wreck? Would you call them a loser and tell them that they're headed down the wrong path? No, you'd sit them down and tell them (repeatedly) that what they did was wrong and that they better think long and hard about what COULD have happened, and the next time, they better make damn sure they've got someone to drive them home, or at least call a cab. I doubt you'd appreciate other people comparing them to Lindsay Lohan (unless this like the 3rd or 4th time they've done the same stupid thing, been arrested for it, spent time in jail & rehab, and STILL made the wrong stupid choice!)

I'm just really tired of it. No one here is any better than any of these celebrities we gossip about and tear to shreds whenever they screw up. Unless you can say you've NEVER had a few too many, NEVER made a dumb choice while under the influence or NEVER done something you later regretted after having a few too many, you have no right to judge a 20-something who made a horrible mistake and will now have to pay the price. Being a celebrity doesn't make you a saint - they're human beings - and they're no better (or worse) than any one of us. The only difference is, we know WHO they are because they're a celebrity, but we don't KNOW them and it's not our place to judge them based on one stupid mistake. I'm sure Amanada Bynes has got plenty of people in her life that are doing that right now. People who actually care about her and want to help.

You are taking this way too seriously. :wondering

Tell that to a victim of a drunk drivers family...one 'stupid' mistake has killed hundreds of thousands of people. I have the right to judge her on this incredibly irresponsible lapse of judgement. Nobody here has said anything terrible. :thinkin:The lindsay lohan thing was just a joke. I like Amanda, she was my childhood idol, i think she's really talented and i want her to do well in life. But what she did was awful.

:goodpost:
Maybe some posters here would feel differently if they lost a loved one due to anothers selfish, stupid, irresponsible mistake.
We lost a great friend because of one of those idiots that thought it was okay to drive whilst under the influence of alcohol and cannabis, he was only young when he died and he left behind many friends and family that loved him and miss him dearly.
It has been 10 years now since he died and i will never get over losing him, so some people need to think before telling others that they are 'getting on their high horses' for being disgusted with those that drive under the influence. You know there are many people out there that would have the common sense, decency and respect for others not to do something so damn reckless.

Again (for I don't know - the fourth or fifth time!). I AM NOT DEFENDING AMANDA BYNES ACTIONS. What I am disgusted with are the comparisons to Lindsay Lohan and a train wreck, like One Mistake, makes you an alcoholic or druggie or burn out! Like everyone here is so perfect and they've never made a mistake!

It's got nothing to do with defending drunk drivers, it's got to do with being so quick to judge and make such harsh comments about a 20-something girl who made a big mistake and I'm sure is getting plenty of "lectures" from her loved ones.

The fact that she was left in jail overnight and was not immediately bailed out shows me that she DOES have people who care about her, that they are trying to teach her a lesson, that no ones making excuses for her. The complete opposite of Lindsay Lohan who's family blames the other parent, the paparazzi, the public, the courts and the legal system as if she's done absolutely nothing wrong and doesn't deserve everything's that's happened to her.

One DUI does not make a train wreck, one DUI doesn't even make you an alcoholic - one DUI means you used extremely poor judgment, and got caught and must now pay the price. You can be as disgusted as you want by Amanda Bynes ACTIONS, but some of the comments here towards Amanda Bynes, the PERSON, are rather harsh and uncalled for.

... isn't she known to be a regular on the party scene? I could be wrong, but I think I have seen where she goes out quite a lot.

And I am sorry, but there is NO excuse IMO. Get a driver! She certainly has the means. It always blows my mind when celebrities who live in big cities go out clubbing/drinking and then have the genius idea to drive wasted at like 3 AM. It's like they are just asking for it... or sticking their tongue out at the law.

Seriously though you need to calm down. Everybody here is entitled to their own opinions, and the things that they have experienced in life will help mould their thought process on this, you have no right at all to tell other people how they should feel or think about a celebrities actions that have puts lives at risk!

I feel like this has more to do with Lindsay lohan for you than it has to do with Amanda though, it seems like you went off on the fact that some other posters compared Amanda to Lindsay, that is their right to do so (whether they said it in jest or they really meant the comparison) and i just don't understand you flying off at people the way that you have...

Oh and Amanda the person was the one who made the absolutely disgusting decision to DRIVE WHILST UNDER THE INFLUENCE!!! It wasn't Amanda's double was it? No, it was Amanda herself, so yes- people have the right to judge her as a person for her actions, the very same way that people judge Lindsay for her actions, and Paris for hers, etc....

Good post. And lest we forget, it IS a gossip thread. Considering AB's actions, I think the comments hit the nail on the head.

I wonder how many people here (on this forum) have ever driven after having a couple cocktails at lunch, or after a wedding reception, or lunch with the girls -- anyone who drinks and then drives is putting themselves and others at risk. Should we put ALL those people under a microscope too?

The only difference is that Amanda Bynes got caught -- how many people do it every day, w/o every getting pulled over?

yes.

I just went back to the very beginning of this thread, and it started in 2007 with a post on how Amanda was in a car accident. Based on this thread, she doesn't have a very good track record in cars!

I have just gone back to the beginning of this thread and you are right, so this isn't the first time she has been reckless when driving. I also now remember all the attention seeking Twitter posts talking about retiring and then unretiring, then losing her puppy and getting a new one reallllly soon afterwards.... She seems a little unstable to me.

Moral high horse? No.
Concern for people's safety? Yes.
I don't think anyone is trying to tear her down. I take it as people are disappointed in her actions and do not want to see her go down a path where we've seen many go down before. It's not like people are cheering her on or getting a kick out of it.

I'm glad there is outrage at her behavior. If it discourages one person from driving drunk and causing a fatal accident, then it's worth it. It's not like she did some silly little slip up. She was so drunk that she hit a cop car.

Please don't tell me to get off my high horse when I have loved ones that I care about and worry for their safety.

Nitpicking celebrities is one thing and I do feel for them in that respect. But Amanda Bynes has crossed that line when she made a choice like that. I'd say the same for a non-celebrity, too.

I think that's a little harsh. Not every celebrity (or young female) that gets arrested should be compared to Lindsay Lohan. After arrest number 4, and numerous trips to rehab, etc THEN I could see the comparisons, but not after one arrest.

She's probably hungover -- and she's got a bunch of paps with cameras in her face. After a night of drinking, do you want your photograph taken and plastered all over the internet?

I'm not defending drunk driving. It's wrong, and there's no reason or defense for it, but I don't think it's fair to bombard a celebrity with such harsh comments because they were arrested on a DUI. Getting a DUI doesn't necessarily mean that someone's a mess or headed down the wrong path or even an alcoholic or drug addict. Anyone who goes out drinking is at risk of being in the same situation -- when you're drinking, you're not thinking logically and usually make dumb choices that you later regret. I'm sure most of us have had a night of drunken embarrassment. Not everyone who drinks is an alcoholic, and anyone who drinks is at risk of getting a DUI

Let's just hope that she learns a lesson from this. It's pretty clear that SOMEONE wanted her to learn from this mistake, as they left her sitting in jail and didn't bail her out until morning, probably once she sobered up and had time to really think about it -- her mother or father (or agent, etc), didn't show up at the courthouse crying "Foul!" blaming the police or the paps, telling everyone that their daughter is being used as an example because of who she is -- no one came to her rescue and coddled her, not like 90% of the other young celebrities that find themselves in similar circumstances

Poor celebs.

I'm not sure if you've heard of this little site called Facebook. I'm pretty sure embarrassing, drunken pictures of people are pretty much a regular thing on there. I know that there are quite a few embarrassing ones of me so don't worry, the celebs aren't the only ones getting their pics at the club at 3 am plastered on the internet.
