No she hasnt officially!

I'm not sure on the details but I do remember reading reports on her parents not recognizing the diagnosis. Either way, I don't think mental illness necessarily makes for a life of troubles, but it usually does if left untreated. Amanda still comes across as very troubled. I hope she turns around, but she needs to be surrounded by positive influences. The shady hollywood people like in the above pictures are not cutting it.

I don't remember if a diagnosis was ever confirmed, but even if it was it doesn't mean she'll never be okay. Plenty of people are able to live normal lives with the help of medication, therapy, etc. I imagine it's a lot harder for someone like Amanda, who doesn't seem to want help. And if she does, she doesn't seem to have people around her who want to support her. It's likely that the people she has around her would rather her be off her meds. :(

On the plus side, Britney Spears seems to be doing well these days. It was looking pretty grim for her, but she seems to have turned it around. Hopefully Amanda can too.

You haven't been keeping up with the thread obviously. This has been going on for years. It's not temporary. She will not get better. There is no effective treatment to make her fully functional again. At best, she may be able to dress and feed herself and be somewhat independent.

Many have said they saw signs of her illness in her behavior when she was on her early shows and it's gone downhill progressively ever since. She is not OK. She has not been OK. She will not be OK.

Five years? I'm not sure she'll be alive.

As long as she is recieving appropriate treatment and sticks to it (which is a struggle in itself for psychotic illnesses), she can live a normal life. The outlook is nowhere near as negative as you suggest.

A **normal** life. Not a Hollywood, party-girl, center-of-attention life. She could probably do quite well if she left the business and the life entirely. Move to a different part of the country (Iowa?), retire from the entertainment business and be a person.

I don't really think it's fair to say that she should get off her medicine. Do we know what's she like without it? She may be worse. I think that it's right for some people to get off their meds, but not all people....for some people, they need the medicine for life and without it they just struggle too much.

Psychotic disorders really do need to be medicated for life, unless you have it very mildly. It's sad, but in most cases it's necessary, the brain just can't seem to function properly without them.

Agreed! I thought she was making the right move going to school to study fashion. I wonder what happened with that? It would be much healthier for her to get out of Hollywood.

My dad is bipolar and the key is for him to stay on his meds. When he is on his meds he is fantastic and you would never have a clue he has a mental illness. There in lies the issue....the bipolar mind tells him he is doing great and can come off his meds. That leads to a big huge crash. Hospital. Back on the meds. Repeat.

The key for Amanda would be staying on the meds (obviously) and having someone monitor to see that she is taking them.

Her parents took her off her meds originally. I'm not sure she has anyone in her life trying to help manage her disease.
She needs to be on them always I believe.

Exactly. She needs good people in her life who will help her stay on her meds and help her in whatever other ways she needs. Obviously no one can force her to take them, but I think she'd have a lot better chances if she had positive people in her life.

Amanda Bynes stepped out with her life coach on Tuesday for a shopping trip on trendy Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles as she continued to reenter the public eye.

The 29-year-old actress has been increasing her public profile lately and earlier this month returned to Twitter after a five-month break following her struggles with mental illness.

Amanda wore loose distressed blue jeans, a white T-shirt over a black tee and black sandals while out shopping with her life coach.
