Advice on first BV purchase

Hey muchstuff. I was at HR today and they didn't have any Cervo bags at all. The selection was a bit better than the last time I was there, but they had very limited colours. Fairly decent selection of styles (and some seasonal ones) but not everything. No Parachutes, Maxi Venetas, Large Iron bags or Small Rete totes. Have fun when you go!
Funny you should say, I was about to post to you...I was there as well yesterday. Checked Nordstrom as well, they don't even carry the brand from what I saw. Pretty disappointing. So I'm assuming that that the Cervo is still a current bag? I don't see it on the BV website. How was the Hermes event? I ran out of time or I would have checked it out although truth be told it's not a brand I'm really interested in...still, would have been interesting to see.

Forgot to mention, in these shots I put a 0.5 l water bottles in each bag, to make them hang naturally, hope this helps you to make a decision and I am looking forward to your posts and reveals in this forum! Good luck!
Ahh that helps a lot, thanks! I understand the comment about the thicker strap, it does make a difference but overall the bag doesn't look daunting. I don't find the Day a large bag at all so I think I'd be comfortable with the BV. Yours are gorgeous BTW!

Your photos are so helpful! I loved the Bal Day but haven't had one in about 6 years. I just assumed, on memory, it had a much smaller profile than the Baseball hobo. It actually doesn't. This is making me rethink the Baseball. I had it, liked it, and woke up one day and said it's too long. Weird. I am a bit odd though.

Oh yeah, Nordstrom doesn't have BV (I was going to tell you that after your last post but I forgot). Leone might carry it, I can't remember - it's been sooo long since I was there. *puts on list for next city visit*
Cervo Hobo is still a current bag. The website doesn't list everything available and the boutiques also don't often have everything available. Retailing is definitely an interesting subject when it comes to availability on websites, boutiques, concession boutiques/stores, wholesale markets etc.
Hermes event was awesome. Even if you are not a fan, I recommend it - especially since you are so close. Hop on the Seabus and go. Hey, you can pop into Leone and give me the Intel. I don't worship at the alter of Hermes, although I do have a few items, but it was really cool to see the products being created right before your eyes.
I took a few pics here: Hermes in Vancouver, B.C.

Never thought of Leone, I'll have to get back downtown...thanks re: the Hermes event, I'll try to get there before it's over, your pics looked very interesting. We're smack in the middle of selling our property/buying something else so things are a bit chaotic!

2009 (below) vs 2016 (top) there's no difference
To the Cervo Hobo fans, be aware that the leather was changed to 'washed' Cervo leather sometime in 2012, and it does make a difference in wear and feel - I much prefer the older Cervo leather, NOT washed. @ksuromax you've already noted a difference in finish - that's not from the wear on the 2009; it's doubtful your 2016 model will ever wear like the older one. Not a big deal, but it's bothered me (big time Cervo Hobo fan here).

Oh, really! Good to know, thank you!
I thought it was a matter of 'breaking in'
Well, then indeed it does make a difference! But I like the new matt version, too. My both canard and mallow are new, so they both are 'washed', but they are my MOST used bags!

Any advice on other BVs that would fit my style? Happy to do preloved if there are specific years for exceptional leather/ wonderful neutral colours.

Hi,

I am probably too new a Cervo hobo owner to share any experience from using the bag but I just received mine today and remembered you were considering it. I do not own a Bal Day but did own a Bal Hobo that was long discontinued. I do not have that Bal Hobo anymore but if I compared that with the BV Cervo Hobo, the latter is definitely lighter, despite the Bal Hobo's dimensions being significantly smaller. I also found the Bal to protrude sideways like a kite when I carried it whereas the Cervo Hobo moulded softly to my side. I hope my reveal thread can provide some insights and I will update with some mod shots, hopefully tomorrow.

Thank you, your thread is very helpful...I have a Bal hobo as well and I get what you're saying about the shape, it does tend to stay a bit flat, unlike the Day bag. My interest in the Cervo is growing by the day. I'm sure I see one in my future!

My pleasure to share. I know how it feels buying unsighted. It is daunting no doubt. I need to add, my Bal Hobo was GGHW and that probably added to the weight but despite its wider width, I cannot fit my water bottle within and a tad restricted with contents because it is flat. In terms of leather, I can attest to the good years vs not so good. My anthracite hobo was ok. I had a Chevre First which was the best leather imho. The Bleu Lavande Town was dry and papery and I was told I need to condition it every two weeks. I no longer own all these bags due to various reasons such as weight/capacity/dry leather but if I look at BV (both new and preloved), the leather quality is pretty consistent for various years.

Good to hear your interest is growing for the hobo. I genuinely hope it works for you.

My hobo is a chevre 07 mogano with GSH, lovely leather. Many of my Bals are chevre, I tend to gravitate to the oldies because of the quality of the leather. Good to hear that the leather quality is consistent for BV although I'd love to feel the difference between the pre and post 2012 leathers, washed vs not. I really appreciate your info!

The oldies are the goodies. I will like to feel the difference between the original and washed too but I am content with mine. You can see the matte texture in one of my close ups. I had benefited so much from the kind ladies here so I am glad to share in turn.
