Looking for some advice regarding a first purchase. (Actually, a second, I had an old pre-loved intrecciato bag some time ago but it was in fairly used condition so I resold it).
I'm 5'1" but am drawn to bigger bags, usually hobo styles. Currently carrying Balenciaga exclusively but really love the look of the Cervo hobo, both the full intrecciato and the one with just the detailing. Newbie question here, does it come only in one size? If so, will it look like it's eating me alive? . Pretty much all of the pics I can find are advert shots and have the bag brand new and fully stuffed so I'm not sure how much the bag relaxes. Will the strap look too wide on a very petite person?
I carry the Bal Day (both men's and women's) the Papier bucket, the Shrug, some smaller ones. I even have a courier which I adore but it's primarily a travel bag, although it drapes so beautifully I would carry it around on a shopping day as well.
Any advice on other BVs that would fit my style? Happy to do preloved if there are specific years for exceptional leather/ wonderful neutral colours. I'm assuming there probably are...any advice would be welcome! TIA!

Did you check out the Cervo Hobo thread in the reference library? Lots of pics of the ladies here wearing their bags.

Why do I think you're from Vancouver? Pop into Holts and try it on. The usually always have one Cervo Hobo there. I'm going to the Hermes event on Wednesday and will stop in at HR so I'll check if you aren't in the area.
It's bigger than the Day, but not the men's day, IMO. I don't think the strap is too wide. I have narrow shoulders and it sits on my shoulder quite nicely.
Yes, it only comes in one size.
I can never choose styles for people and think that when you see something you like and want, and will use, then you'll know it's the style for you. Personally, I don't think BV has/had good years for leather the way Balenciaga does/did. A bag made in 2008 will look as good as one made on 2014. In my experience, the leather is all the same. Certain years were not known for being "chewy", "thick" or "dry" kwim? Although a few ladies here with the Cervo Hobos will tell you that the newer "washed Cervo" does not seem to be as durable as previous years, so you'll have to wait for them to chime in on that.

I am, in fact, from Vancouver  (well, North Van)...I rarely get downtown, strangely enough, but am going to try for next week and will check out Holts and Nordstrom as well. Thanks re: the cervo hobo thread, I did look at it and the bags looked quite large to me but some of them had a better hang than others so I'm guessing it's just a matter of usage, a lot of ladies post their bags as soon as they get them so I'm assuming in at least some of the photos the bags are new.
We've sold our house and at the end of October I get some "mad money" so I'm exploring my options for at least one new bag...BV is high on the list. Thanks so much for your help!

I was a huge Bal Day fan. My biggest regret is stupidly letting my ultra chewy deep Sapin Day go.

The Cervo Hobo is quite a bit larger even though functionally, it holds about the same as the Day. Because the strap is built into the bag it just has a larger and longer presence. The strap on the Day is shorter and the top of the bag itself is closer to your under arm. With the BV hobo, you've got a lot more room there.

It's definitely something that should be tried on first.

I can't really think of a BV bag with a similar proportion to the Day. The classic large Veneta hobo, I think, wears a hair smaller. It's closer to the under arm than even the Day. I think the medium Campana is quite a bit smaller. And the large Campana is huge. What I can recommend, even though it's not a hobo per se, is the Bella or seamless tote. I HEART this bag. For me it has the same ease of the Day, but I can dress it up--something I couldn't do with the Day. From a capacity perspective, the Day is a hair deeper but otherwise it's the same.

I am 5'1" and I have two Cervo baseball hobos and I love them. I personally like big bags so I don't think they are too big for my taste. It hits low at my hips so I can imagine if someone of my height would find the need to fish for their wallet in the bag. I always use a purse organizer so I don't have that problem.

I like the other Cervo hobo which we called Loop hobo here. It drapes beautifully against my body and hits at the top of my hips. You might want to consider that if you prefer something doesn't hit too low.

I once owned the large Campana but I think it's too bulky because it doesn't stay close to my body and the strap keeps sliding off my narrow shoulder.

Like grietj, I LOVE the Bella bag/seamless tote.

I don't think the Cervo Hobos are huge, after all you wouldn't want to stuff it full. If you buy a darker colour it will at least look smaller. Very comfortable bag BTW, carried it just stays. Secure inside pockets on both sides, everything feels very well though out. Not sure there are many intrecciato hobos around anymore as they came out in 2014 but others can advise you better, the others are great too.

Thanks for your advice! I've looked at the Veneta but it appears a bit wider at the bottom than I'd like. I definitely need something that I can get into while it's on my shoulder, that's a must (I can do that with the Day, anything closer to the underarm won't work). The Bella looks lovely but I'm afraid I'd have to remove it from my shoulder to access it? Looks like it's a trip downtown to try on BVs!

So many choices! Both of the Cervo bags you've mentioned are lovely, I definitely need to try some of these bags on...many thanks!

Thanks, so the intrecciato was just in 2014? Although that expanse of leather is so gorgeous on the other...glad to hear it's an easy carry, I appreciate the feedback!

Metallic seems to be what I've seen it in, I don't know if it came on non-metallic. Here'a a pic I saw...

Yes, those are the special ones. It comes in 3 metallic colors. These are a little bit heavier and stiffer than the regular Cervo ones though. You can still find them in the pre-owned market.

The color in the picture you included is pretty rare in the pre-owned market though.

Of course it is, such is my life ...heavier, stiffer and rare are not the words I wanted to hear however, so maybe that's made the choice a little easier. Thanks so much for the info, I have a world to learn about the brand and the response has been appreciated!
