Just been to the States where I picked up 2 tshirts and a hoodie from Abercrombie. Whats the general impression of the label in the States (and in the UK?) - what kind of girl wears Abercrombie?

Prep. Overpriced clothing -- big whoop for a moose logo. Often goes on clearance though, but even then, I feel it isn't worth the price.

I myself own 2 pair of Hollister shorts & a couple of A&F cardigans (not noticeable unless you eyed the moose logo!). IMO, if you are out of high school, you should really just not shop at the A&F brands anymore. I'm not saying to stop wearing what you already have -- as I see a bunch of college students still wearing A&F stuff... but yeah.

There are always exceptions though... some petite ladies find that A&F jeans, for example, suit them well. Nothing against Gilly Hicks as that's just undergarments.

My impressions of the brand in general:
pre-teens (my 11-12 year old students wore A&F a lot), teenagers
younger college crowd (definitely not grad or professional school)
overpriced casual mainstream
low range

I used to have one A&F coat ages ago (the only A&F item I ever owned) and the seams started unraveling before winter was even over! So I have to go with poor quality too.

Hmm......I'm in my 30's and up until reading this thread, have been happily wearing their polos  I find them a fantastic fit and great quality......my husband loves his A&F polos too......now I feel kinda embarrased! Yes, I would agree, some of the clothing has a very young teen feel - but come on, not all of it!

they're good for petite people! because it is juniors sizing its smaller than a lot of places. I love their shorts because they are super short...every where else its always too long! But they are over priced so always wait for a sale!!

I generally see A&F on middle schoolers and high school girls. A lot of more wealthy parents dress their younger kids in A&F. I used to nanny in a wealthy town and thats ALL the kids would wear. I don't see a lot of college aged people wearing it....

My overall impression is that most of their stuff is targeted towards girls younger than 20, though some of their less blatant items can be age appropriate for women in their 20s and 30s. I for one, at 25, am still a reluctant fan of their jeans, because they fit me so much better than other designers (and I'm talking like... better than True Religion or Sevens....). I wonder what that says about me....haha.

oh gosh! This is not good news!!! Hmm, anyone in the UK have any opinions on how its viewed over here?

To be honest, I feel like foreigners have a different view of A&F brands than Americans do. Japanese tourists flock in droves to buy marked-up A&F merchandise in Hawaii. It seems like Europeans like some A&F stuff too. It's a matter of perception, perhaps?

I love the soft materials and the jeans always regain their shape after washing them but i buy nondescript items, i do see the teenyboppers covered in the label and shiver but it surprises me how many celebrities i see in Abercrombie esp Victoria Beckham she goes and loads up for the whole fam
