I was kind of surprised at the pricing....

That being said I do sort of like the idea of having a lock of hair turned into a diamond. I could get one for each of my children and have a very unique and personal mother's ring.

wow, they're getting more and more creative, mourning jewelry made out of a dearly departed person's hair was very common in the victorian era. They made necklaces, bracelets, lockets, etc out of human hair...there are still people who collect these pieces. Kinda gruesome to me though, check out this link, it's pretty interesting, Mourning - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I'd rather wear a diamond made of hair than an actual deceased person's hair anyday though.

Hi Neeya!!

Truth is, I wouldn't have beleived it either, except that I've read about a charactor in a book having it... but honestly, it was a horror book and I can't shake that image out of my head!!:wtf:

But I actually think it's kinda cool. Thanks for the link. Truthfully, I think I might rather do that kind of thing if my mother died, she'd like that. My DH would freak if he thought I would turn him into a diamond. He'd probably think I couldn't wait for him to go, oh no! LoL

I suppose this sort of thing really takes the danger out of diamond buying - no more issues of conflict diamonds, you can now know EXACTLY where/who your diamond came from!!!

I had never heard of this - interesting.

Some mourning jewelry isn't so over-the-top - sometime its just a ring with a little bit of woven hair in it, or in the back so you don't see it. I think some of it is really beautiful, but I'm very sentimental about things. I have view similar to Neeya about that stuff. I have lots of jewelry from my grandmother who I love dearly, but when she passed I got her colander so that when I cook I'm reminded of her. She loved cooking and was an amazing cook - it also brings her into my everyday. The only thing I don't like about the diamond idea is that you'd be making something valuable - or with perceived value - to others - but I guess that's the problem with all of this sort of jewelry.

Here are some pieces of mourning jewelry.

Not my favorite pieces but it gives you an idea.

Hope this isn't too much of a thread-jack.

I think it's gross. A diamond? I think it's all about vanity. Let them rest in peace, don't go making someone into a flashy diamond so you can wear it.
ick. I'm so against this lol
