I agree with Isus-do a little research, get to know what u love-color,leather,size-put in a order and start saving!Maybe u will be lucky enuff to stumble onto a Kelly u love in an H store! If not, u know ur dream bag is on order!

I'm going to have to agree with most everyone else. Buy a Kelly. The idea of a vintage is a great one, we've all seen some great deals on those. Just check the reseller link's on TPF and if you find it on ebay post it in the authentification thread just to be sure. Good luck and welcome to your new addiction. The good news is you cant go wrong with a kelly its timeless and classic, the bad news, you wont be satisfied with just that bag. It will start an addiction.

Hi Remediva - I would have to agree with DQ and go or the vintage kelly. Get the bag that you want because getting anything else will only feed the Kelly addiction. Another thing to consider is that thee Kelly is a beautiful bag, but not the most user friendly. I love my Kelly, but if I'm running errands or carrying anything else in my hands, it can get awkward because I'm fumbling to get my bag closeed. Better to spend $2,000 on a beautiful used "test bag" than thousands on other Hermes items or $6000 on a new Kelly that you might not like. At any rate, good luck with you decision.

Hi there and welcome to the orange side!
This is an obsession, so your DH best gets used to the higher figures. It hurts at first but then people usually adjust and start calling a 3K bag a 'bargain'.

Get the Kelly, don't settle! You dream of the Kelly, so save up for that. Go vintage, there are truly good deals to be had - not in the 1K range but 2K and up you can find somehting nice if you're patient.

In the meantime, stay with us and your eye will adjust from 'I want them all' (been there and sometimes still am) to 'this sings to me and fits my lifestyle - I will definitely carry and use that bag'.

An obsession is an obsession. The ladies' advice here is all good stuff. I myself have been waiting for a Kelly since the 80s and have only just got my SO placed. Maybe I'm better at restraint than you but if you want a Kelly that's all that will fill the void. My other half ( bless him) doesn't understand but has been primed by long exposure to my desire to accept it but then I don't buy a lot of other stuff. If you have a general handbag obsession perhaps you could offload some of them on ebay to defray the expenditure?
If it's your money it's your concern and to hell with the consequences!

Please don't give up your dream of a Kelly for a garden bag!!! Garden Bags are like $1,700 anyhow. That's 1/5 of a Kelly... I'd rather save up (or repay my credit card bill) for 5-6 years than buy a handbag I'm not going to love as much.

Your bag is worth waiting for-I hope it comes soon!

I agree.....you'll get the Garden Party, and like it, but it's not the Kelly. You'll still want the Kelly. Wait and get the big Kahuna. In the meantime, a Kelly bracelet sounds like a great idea...

And remember, life is too short for handbag guilt. My mother always said, what if I'm hit by a bus tomorrow? And I had never enjoyed that lovely bag?

Thank you all SOOO MUCH! I feel so warm and fuzzy.

You know, I was seriously trying to figure out how to get out of this conference in Vancouver - now I'm counting the days!

Yay!

You got so much good advise here. I am so truly touched by how honest and truth fellow H lovers can be!

1) wait for the Kelly (garden is not an all year around bag) and it will only make you want the Kelly more. Garden is also not cheap (it is 1/4 of a Kelly)

2) sell some of your other bags on ebay

3) while you are waiting for the $, do your research. Try on colors, sizes and even look at the variety of leathers. You will be amazed at how helpful some SAs are. Be truthful, let the SA you are waiting for the funds and in the meantime you are doing your research (you will encounter not so nice SAs and this is a good test to get you to the right SA). She/he will then help you get your "ideal" bag when the time comes.

4) I personally find the research and wait even more fun than wearing the bag.

5) All good things come to those who wait! You will have your Kelly and we all will be thrilled. Good luck.

I don't presently own a Hermes bag, but I want one so bad that my DH? (darling husband, I assume) says I'm moaning about someone named Kelly in my sleep.

So funny :roflmfao:

I am addicted to the pochettes and enamel bracelets! Each one is a little piece of art and is a much more affordable way to satisfy the Hermes crave!

Oh I love this thread. I'm in the same situation. I recently bought my first H items (a lizard Bearn wallet and a small origami type holder for change). I'm totally hooked and I want my DH to be too! I got him a leather valet for our one year anniversary.

Maybe try getting your DH some H items so he'll become a fan as well. That's what I'm trying. I'm hoping someday he'll go in and buy cufflinks, housewares, etc. and see the "perfect birkin" for me! OK it won't happen but getting him used to the idea of spending 1000's for a bag is a lenghthy process.

Good luck! I hope you get your kelly soon!
