I have some birthday money and would like to buy a designer handbag.
Fake handbags are common where I live. Several brandS - LV, Chanel, Michael Kors, Prada, Mulbery, Burberry and many others.
If I'm going to invest in a designer bag I would rather people who aren't aware don't think it is a fake.

I would recommend going for something subtle without much branding. Also maybe something in a lesser known brand that people who aren't into fashion wouldn't have heard of. Maybe something from celine/fendi/ysl?

Take a look at Loewe. The quality is amazing and the brand is pretty much under the radar.
This! Loewe is a great brand.

Another option, I think, is to buy a plastic bag from the supermarket and use that; if fakes are a mainstream thing, it doesn't matter what you buy, there will always be someone thinking your bag might be one of the fake ones as well. Fakes aren't all that uncommon where I live either, especially lots of MK and LV around, which people bring from Estonia and Turkey. It's put me off both brands.
Then again, just the other week as I was traipsing down the street, I heard a snobby-looking woman tell her friend that my Ledbury was a "low grade fake Bayswater" and that I must be "an uneducated idiot for thinking nobody would notice since my bag is, like, a third of the size of a real Bays". Yeah. I managed to bite my tongue that time and didn't educate the loudmouth idiot on Mulberry and how to behave in public...I deserve a medal. Or an ice cream. Or both. With chocolate on top.

Take both, you've well and truly earned them!

People do stuff. It's unavoidable & requires me to spend lots of time not punching idiots.
Even with excellent plastic grocery sack suggestion--or printing on t-shirt, "My bag isn't a fake,"--control factor of public general reactions = nil.

Under-the-radar brands are good idea.
As is enjoying nice bag & being comfortable enough to ignore what won't do real harm. (i.e. senseless yammerings of strangers)

Choose YOUR bag, not what others demand.
People with real recognize real. ;)

Hope this helps.

You should buy a bag because you like and enjoy using it. Negative people will always find something negative to think and vice versa, so I don't think that should be a deciding factor.

Honestly, really good fakes aren't cheap either! If you're going to spend money on the real deal, then you'll get quality. I think it's a waste to buy a fake for $200, not worth it and supports illegal black market activity...

+1.

People think even limited edition bags are fake and are nasty about it. Wear what you love and ignore the negativity. Yes, it's easier said than done, but it'll be a good change in thinking.

Pretty much everything is faked these days. Everyone is looking for a quick buck, it is unfortunate.
Have heard Rebecca Minkoff has never been faked. Not sure how true that is.
Just buy what you like. People who care don't matter, people who matter don't care.

I think it'll be extremely difficult to find a bag brand not faked these days. I tend to echo the rest buy what you love, you know whether it's real and those who have knowledge on bags know too.. the rest can go leap :p
