A great bag can elevate whatever you are wearing. Agree or Disagree?

The majority have spoken and I agree! It doesn't matter how tailored your wardrobe is or your size. If you love your handbag and it makes you happy that's all that counts. As long as it doesn't distract from your clothing, tailored or otherwise will not matter. Tailored bags are classic. I am itching to buy one but for me, it's all hobos and I am a casual vibe person as well. Enjoy your Fendi and wear it with pride. It's a beautiful bag! If you check out the celebrity forum you will notice the celebrities wearing tailored bags exiting the gym. In the end, it's a purse that houses your stuff and it is we who buy what we like!

I think the handbag could be the best thing to complement your whole outfit. I mean necklaces, bracelets, earrings, watches are very subtle but when I go out, I always look and pay attention to people's bags...not just because I'm obsessed with them but it's a big accessory :D

I don't think a great bag necessarily needs fancy clothing. In these modern times casual and fancy paired are "stylish" even :p

But, if you personally would feel better having a few more fancy clothing items to go with your bag, then I would say try to find something new to add to your wardrobe. A nice blouse, elegant cardigan or a midi skirt would easily make it more elegant.

On Etsy.com you can buy handmade, custom size for reasonable prices btw. Just a thought :)

I never thought about looking into Etsy for custom stuff. That's a great idea!

I know how you feel. I work in childcare, so I'm always dressed casually. I try to look nice, but I rarely dress up. I try to choose bags that match my style or I end up feeling silly. I feel like a super expensive (or expensive LOOKING at least) bag would look out of place.

A great bag can definitely elevate what you're wearing. At the same time, it's helpful to put some effort in clothes, hair and nails. Sometimes I think that a great bag is the complement to how men see a great watch.

I never realized that guys were that way about watches until my brother started longing for a Breitling or a Tag Heuer. He's a police officer and could never afford one, yet he keeps a catalog to flip through as bedtime reading.

I agree with how dele33 feels too. I work in a surprisingly casual government office. And that's what made me think of this topic in the first place. I also commute to work on a charter bus with a bunch of engineers and union laborers, it's a real melting pot! My bag usually takes up its own seat. It can be awkward. If I tone down my bag for work, I would never get to use the majority of my collection.

I never really felt the need to dress "fancy," but at least a bit more stylish, just to be commensurate with my bags. But in the end, many of you have just said to carry what I like, and I think I'll take that advice :smile1:

Well I think a great bag is like "icing on a cake", it can definitely elevate the outfit, but it doesn't fix a messy cake as to say.

What I mean is that a casual outfit, like well-fitting jeans, a neat white tee and ballerina flats, for example can look really polished when you add a nice bag. Unfortunately I find that casual is often mistaken for sloppy.
No handbag can fix dirty nails, clothes or hair or clothes that are too tight or short.

To answer the question in one sentence, I don't think a great bag can elevate WHATEVER you are wearing, but it can give the perfect finishing touch to a very simple basic outfit. :okay:

Very well said! And I've learned to never underestimate the power of nicely manicured nails and a touch of jewelry!

Wise words mate- wise words!

I'm a tall plus size so I know how OP feels. I used to let my size dictate what I wore but then decided to look like me, not my old aunt. If you're anywhere near where Evans delivers, I recommend looking them up.
My everyday "style" is pretty much jeans (skinny or straight), sneakers (Converse or Super Star II) or ballerines, t-shirts, knits etc. Very simple and mostly pretty safe. My bags work as color shots - I own a bag or two in every color of the rainbow and rotate them 1-6 times a week. I might wear the same clothes 2 days in a row but switch out my bag to make it look different.
I don't rate my bags according to price, but how much I like them; I don't mind carrying a 2€ flea market find with a nice formal outfit and neither am I ashamed to wear my brown leather hikers and windproof jacket with a Mulberry bag. Be brave and never let anyone else's opinions affect you too much. :smile1:
