mistikat, to your very pasive agresive remark- then maybe i have been lucky and well i guess iresponsable because in my las 3 flights air france 2 and lufthansa 1 ,first class my 35cm in one flight and 40cm in the other two have actually been behind my legs and well... nothing yet this is why i know it fits there but my dear im not lying what i place in the forum is what i know for sure so... im sorry if the case is that it is not posible then i have been lucky !:smile1::confused1:

i can't imagine what you see that's passive-aggresive in mistikat's remark, which is simply a statement of fact, and one that i thought was well known at that. but in any case, you certainly have been lucky ~ if you ever watch a video of an aborted takeoff you'll understand exactly why every movable thing must be stowed or secured during takeoff. ditto for landing incidents, though with most of them at least there's some warning to fix the situation if one has been silly enough to ignore the safety regulations and a flight attendant hasn't noticed and required compliance.

whether you're in first class or coach is irrelevant ~ the airlines take just as good care making sure first class passengers are safe as they do those in the back.

My 35 Barenia Kelly just fits under the coach and first class seats on United and Continental. I bring an envirosac and put the Kelly in that to minimize scuffs.

Birkel, may I suggest you follow the flight attendant's rules when flying, there are reasons bags/gear are not allowed behind your legs or next to you in the seat during take off and landing. I spent years in university taking accident investigation classes, including an entire semester on handling the aftermath of an aircraft crash (body tagging and such). Please stow your bags, it's not pretty when things get lodged where they shouldn't.

I was in an aborted take-off on my last trip to Scotland. We were doing well over 150 mph down the runway when SKREETCHHHHHHHH. Things were flying everywhere. All sorts of things ended up in the aisles. Thankfully we did not have to get out quickly.

Mistikat - I am stalking your 40 Barenia Birkin

I just want you to know
:graucho::graucho::graucho:

Gee, I wish I'd known that last year. It's living with a new owner. I found it much too heavy for me and it basically sat in its dustbag all the time. Gorgeous leather, though, and I'd love to have another (smaller and lighter) barenia piece some day...

OH! Too bad. But a year ago (even a month ago) i wasn't "there" yet.
I think I'm there - whenever the right time will be for me
Hugs!

If I may just step in here for a moment...speaking as a girl who had the airsick toddler in the seat in front of her Ralph all over a vert olive barenia Kelly, do you really want to travel with barenia? Really? Unless I'm flying private I will never carry barenia again. No matter where you sit in a plane you can't guarantee that the mom in front of you won't feed her airsick-prone child chocolate milk and cheeseburgers before takeoff.

I saw nothing passive-aggressive in mistikat's post. She simply reminded us all of the flight safety rules applying to all commercial travelers, even those who feel their flight class entitles them to disregard the safety of other pasengers.

Thanks, guys. Please let's not get into a dust-up. From my own experiences traveling, I would not risk trying to put anything behind my legs, as I've seen some flight attendants get pretty serious on people who tried. (But, Birkel, did you mean that you put your bag *under* the seat *behind* you? That would be storage space for the person behind you--maybe they did not have any bags to stow at their seat?). Anyway, I have seen flight attendants who didn't even bother checking for bags in wrong places, and some who considered themselves carry-on police. These days, especially, I'm not going to risk it.
I suspect that the 40cm (stiffer leathers) would not fit under the seat in front of me. The larger bags that I do have are more floopy; plus, if they got scratched, I wouldn't mind as much.
Overall, I'm suspecting that if I get the 40cm, I will always be pining for the 35cm. But to skip on a barenia... :(

Chloechloe - at these prices - you should always get EXACTLY what you want.
The wisest words I've ever seen on tpf are, "There will always be another bag!"
