I love halos and have a halo ring as a RHR, but for an engagement ring my personal preference would be for the solitaire. It is such a classic, refined look and you always have the option to reset it at a later date if you want to change your look.

I really don't see the sense of worrying whether something will look "dated" or not. Quite frankly at that point you will be a lot more concerned about your face being dated than your jewelry. As for the solitaire that would depend on the diamond and its specs. I'm about quality, so only an AGS 0 would get my vote.

Agree! The nice thing about a solitaire is choosing the band. Sky's the limit! A band can totally change the look.................

I voted for the solitaire as I do have one. Sometimes I do feel that mine is a bit small in comparison to an ocean of halos out there eventhough it’s almost a 3 carat. What I would do is go for the 3.8 carat and if you feel like it, add a double halo to it in the future. That’s what I’m going to do 5 years from now when I’m tired of my current setting.
