If you love 'em, wear 'em. It doesn't sound too outrageous to me. I think for your age, it is appropriate. If you were 7 or 8, I'd then say that I'd agree with your mom. Rock your studs!

They probably look bigger on you IRL because then when you turn your head the diamonds catch the light & sparkle....

Diamond studs are my fave staple earring, followed closely by hoops.
