The only concern is that people will think they are fake or gaudy. Me personally, I think anything larger than a carat in the ear is ridiculous looking. So I kind of agree with your mom, in all honesty.

Who cares about whether people think they're real or not? If that is a 'problem' then it seems the only reason to wear jewellery is to say to people 'I am wealthy and fabulous and I so outrank you.' I don't think anyone here feels that way - it's about how you feel wearing them. It's pretty clear that you love them and they're a reward for your hard work. Keep them and enjoy.
