I love your three red bags - style, leather, and colour!View attachment 6129378View attachment 6129379View attachment 6129380
These are my red bags. Last year I also had at least 3 burgundy bags. I realized that although I like burgundy or oxblood or wine colors, I
never reached for them. So they have been sold or are up for sale.
1. vintage Coach Sonoma pocket drawstring
2. Dooney & Bourke Florentine small messenger
3. Coach Jes camera bag
I'm very happy with these. I love a red bag but since these are so perfect for me I hope I can resist getting any more.
Lovely reds, your Studio and Drag are jaw droppers - just gorgeous! My reds!
Last year - Goyard Sac Rouette, Ferragamo Studio, Hermes Drag II, Tory Burch McGraw

In this time of mirror fakes, the copyrighted elements mean less than they once did. 😢 Admittedly, the widespread presence of mirror fakes has cooled me on most premier bags including my once beloved Chanel. I’m having a hard time spending $3-10k on a bag when I know a mirror fake with essentially the same quality and workmanship can be had for a few hundred dollars. I also have seen resale prices and velocity drop so the value proposition for buying a premier bags has meaningfully downshifted. If I buy I can now only consider that it will be a lifetime commitment. The sale / consignment hassle isn’t worth my time.Another reason for the logos all over bags is that it is the one element that can be copyrighted. Bag designs can be copied so the original needs a way to be distinguished from the dupes.
Minimum size should fit phone, card case, keys, sunglasses, lip balm... so WOCs don't usually work for me. I need some depth in a bag. Flat bags, even if they are big, can look lumpy when you put thicker items inside.
It really depends on the WOC. All of mine can hold my essential keys, lip color, phone, cards and cash without distorting or looking lumpy. A couple even fit my slimmer sunnies. So, don’t be afraid to look at different models of WOCI can’t do WOC’s either, and I have the same issue with flat bags… I don’t like bulges!
These rules sound like they’re made to be broken now that fashion and life have changed so much. I love my diamonds more than any other possession 🤩and can’t imagine not wearing them in some form 24/7. And I wouldn’t take delicate skins to sporty events where anything from weather to a raucous crowd could damage them. But, it’s fun to hear about past eras!I was 4 when I first started hearing these rules - no brown in town, no diamonds during the day, no white after Labor Day, leather is strictly for daytime, exotics are “sporty”. She attended Radcliffe in 1912, so she either learned them from her parents or at college etiquette classes.
She would usually have her dressmaker hold onto the offcuts from her dresses, and a bagmaker would make a custom matching evening bag. Sometimes, she’d pin a diamond brooch onto the evening bag to make it sparkle. If she didn’t have a matching bag, or didn’t feel like wearing it that night, she’d carry a beaded bag, a corde bag, or a metal one.
Your collection is simply stunning. I love all the color variation and classic styles. My red and burgundy bags 2025

This is a great question because as our lives change so do our needs. You beat me to it PT - the H does go on the inside but I see most people carrying it with the H on the outside. I can only think of one other H bag that has an H on it - the Constance. But the majority of the others are unlabeled unless you get up close and personal with it.
I agree 100% that the majority of people want that 'in your face' logo.
I love a good, well made bag - regardless of the label. I do think that often to get that quality, you have to look at the designer bags.
Since the move(s), I have been really looking at my bags (they're all quivering - worried they're about to hit the sale pile) and thinking about what I really like and need in a bag... beside excellent quality.
I know we've talked about it before - but what are your 'must have's' in a bag?
For me - it needs to be the right size (not too big or too small), with smooth leather, a leather lining, a top handle and a shoulder strap.
Not too much to ask for, right?
Wonderful variety and stunning bags. I had a blue dupe of your Gucci. I had not seen the real Gucci so before didn't know just thought it had a Gucci vibe. Once I found out I got rid of it. Though one day I might want the real thing like your lovely bag.My red and burgundy bags 2025

This all makes complete sense to meI think what “counts” depends on your goals for bag management.
I moved a lot as a child, which meant I was always in new social groups. As an adult, I will fall into a trap of being afraid of not having “appropriate” items for the settings and occasions I face. At my worst, I’ll spiral and create imaginary needs.
At one point, I had close to a hundred premier designer every day carry bags. I’ve managed to ruthlessly contain the collection to 27.
I have a lot of “don’t count bags” that a lot of people would count. For example, I don’t count clutches in that number, because they circulate and get used by multiple family members (the clutch library!). Shopper totes - even if they are ridiculously expensive designer pieces (I’m looking at you, silky pop) are counted as SLG, because I’m only going to use that when I’m shopping and 99% of the time it’s folded up inside a bag. Hobby or emergency bags also don’t count - even if they are designer - because again, I’m not going to use them as a purse.
But if VintageMama is cleaning her closet and gives me a beach bag, if I don’t sell or gift it, it counts as an in. If a bag was in a “don’t count” category (a travel bag) moves into a “counts” category (using that travel bag as a work bag) it gets added, even though I haven’t purchased anything.
I’m not trying to control my spending, although I have used selling things as a way of punishing myself for shopping too much in the past. But ultimately, I’m trying to control my space and keep myself more mobile.
You and I are twins! In this time of mirror fakes, the copyrighted elements mean less than they once did. 😢 Admittedly, the widespread presence of mirror fakes has cooled me on most premier bags including my once beloved Chanel. If I buy I can now only consider that it will be a lifetime commitment. The sale / consignment hassle isn’t worth my time.
I honestly don’t know where I’ll land post this existential bag crisis: I’m far less likely to buy higher end premier bags than before but will still carry my things in a sock before I’ll buy a fake. It’s a conundrum.
It really depends on the WOC. All of mine can hold my essential keys, lip color, phone, cards and cash without distorting or looking lumpy. A couple even fit my slimmer sunnies. So, don’t be afraid to look at different models of WOC

Hmmm… I like unique bags but I don’t know that I could successfully wear quirky. What would be considered a quirky bag?@papertiger wrote about quirky vintage bags. I try not to buy quirky things anymore. Unless they are quirky in a
Way that will work in my regular rotation. But, I still regret giving away a metal machine mesh bag with a bottle cap top… it was fantastic and, oh ten or, let’s be honest, 14 years later, it would have been theoretically perfect for me for some fun nights.![]()
Diamond twinsies! You and I are twins!
I love my diamonds more than any possession-my first ever gift was a Swiss gold watch from Geneva from my maternal grandparents who had just returned from vacation when I was born, at 6 I wanted a necklace rather than toys.
At 16, I sold all of my jewellery and used all of my summer vacation work money to buy my first fancy yellow diamond.
I stopped working as a Chartered Management Accountant to become a gemmologist specialising in fancy coloured diamonds, which I’d started learning about aged 12, and worked in Bond Street.
I also wear them 24/7!❤️❤️❤️
I’m sorry that you’re being guilted by your parents. This is a tough situation for you all.Re bags, I like structured bags, small to medium.
I prefer hand held to shoulder straps, my taste hasn’t changed dramatically over the last 3 decades, in fact I had my first crocodile bags at 17.(Made by a retired Asprey employee).
Apart from that , I’m feeling better than I did last week-although my Father tried to make me feel guilty by telling me how disappointed they both were that I hadn’t visited-and I’ll visit my parents this coming weekend.
I’ve been following New York Fashion Week and enjoying the shows, Calvin Klein has a new designer..he is now 82- I met him in Selfridges decades ago when he launched Eternity and he was very nice to me.
His clothes are for someone a foot taller than me though!(Im 4’11”).
I’m also enjoying watching everyone’s red bags although I don’t have any myself.
Happy Valentines everyone!(Im being pursued by a widow, but I’m truly not interested at ALL).

As another tall person, you bring up a good point about how a bag needs to look good on us too! A too small bag just looks weird - though I don’t feel that way about a small crossbody. This is a great question because as our lives change so do our needs.
Must not weigh over two pounds max. I like a bit of structure in bags with the exception of crossbody bags. It must be able to hold readers, phone, card case and a small pouch or two. Closures are not as important on bags as long as I have a few that close securely when I am in the city. I tend to like pebbled leather for is easy care but will buy any leather if I am attracted to it. I like clean lines for the most part. I like organization in a bag if it doesn't have it, I buy a felt organizer for it. I am tall so a bag needs to look good on my person.
