2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

I don't know whether you will be disappointed or admire my resolve but I bought the SS23 double-breasted. Saint Laurant Le Smoking but not the Mimosa Eel SdJ bag.

I was 100% on the jacket (second try) but feeling less sure about another bag so soon after 3 last year. I also have some more Cartier in my sights - and I can't buy everything I fancy. The bag would have been an extra and not something on my list.

The exercise did make we want an amber bag, and I may get the SDJ if still available - but later if possible.

Love the jacket!

Still thinking about the Gucci carry-on bag that I saw at the airport. It made me take another look at my own luggage and carry-on options. Generally, my airport style (if one can even call it that) is quite low-key. No logo or premier designer items and any purses I carry are usually tucked inside my carry-on luggage. Generally, I believe most airlines allow one carry-on (like a small wheeled suitcase), and one personal item like a purse. I noticed that some people had large totes or bags as their personal item. Which brings me to a question I have been pondering on. What purse or bag do you carry as your personal item? Do you favor a tote, a large duffle bag or a smaller handbag? Would love to hear your thoughts.

I carry a tote that has “squishability” and put my purse and airport/flight essentials in it. That way it fits under the seat but I can get the maximum amount of “stuff.” I have sometimes gotten away with a carryon instead of a larger check in bag doing this because I was able to take my toiletries and spare shoes in the tote instead of packing them in my bag.

LOVE! So happy you got it!

Here’s my green in older pics (25K sellier Bleu orage and a vintage green 35 Trim II)

ETA: @Purses & Perfumes , if I have to check in a bag (DH share a rimowa trunk on wheels for ski trips etc), I carry a shoulder carry leather zip bag from Suarez (about the same size as DHs navy carry on, third pic on top of the trunk) as a cabin bag with a TPM Evelyn strictly as a plane carrying (altoids, emergency chocolate, Tylenol, hand sanitizer wipe, and eye drops thing). DH carries passports in a sac a depeches 21 (fourth pic). If I’m carrying on (no check in), I use a rimowa wheeled carry on and a weekender (olive green). The first pic contained all of our luggage for three weeks in Asia, minus a second soft weekender case for presents we brought there. We packed that weekender in the trunk to take home ) I also carry a Goyard St. Louis that packs flat in my olive weekender. We buy extra packing cubes (Away or another moderately priced brand) to store ski or other special use vacation gear). That way, we can pack faster. I save space by limiting my choices, color palette, and shoes and bags. I am fine living in doc martens and birkenstock sneakers for the duration lol.

I usually take a travel tote that can double as a shopper while I'm away.

Back row Left is this Gucci travel bag. Even though it's all-leather, tt's really light and roomy

Could be my Burberry duffle if Winter (Bear stays at home)

Thanks!
Question: would this jacket go with the YSL shorts? I don’t remember if they were velvet or not. . . .

I haven't tried because Saint Laurent are putting a new zip in my shorts.

They are velvet, so not exactly. I have a Saint Laurent velvet flower I can wear though so it will work if I want. They could even be a bit long for that longer line jacket.

I have quite a few black dress-trousers (pants) classic-wide, skinny and palazzo style that will be fine. I plenty of pencil and minis that will work. I can go really short with that jacket, with my black leather shorts or my pink pythons (and heels).

Gucci do a GG-devoré M2M velvet High-End jacket (their new line). They would work with my velvet shorts because that's more a fitted style. I just need some serious money LOL.

Yes, the "squishability" factor is so important when flying!
I like a lot of pockets too. I was going to carry my Longchamp bag (which never seems to get used) but the lack of outside pockets or interior ones made me leave it behind.

Great travel bag options, and I particularly adore your Burberry duffle! And Thomas Bear is a cutie. Good to know that the Gucci leather tote is not heavy. Weight is a big factor for me -- definitely a fan of light-weight carry on options.
I like the idea of taking a travel tote that doubles as a shopper during the trip!
