2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

When I say I gasped reading this, it is no understatement. I stared at it for several minutes, not quite believing it's addressed to me. I mentioned when the pandemic was at its worst that some people in my circle had wondered why I survived covid when others (better than me) didn't, and I've been battling a lot of survivor's guilt since. So this is the kind of comment I don't get irl, which makes it the sweetest gift I could receive from a pocket friend.
I cannot express how moved I am to receive such high praise, thought it is most certainly praise I have yet to earn from one I respect so, so much.
Saying thank you feels woefully insufficient however, it is all I've got right now. So, from the bottom of my heart, Thank you, VL.

I'm extremely lucky to have my mum. My dad died when I was a toddler so she raised us alone. Somehow she made it look easy. I appreciate her more as an adult because I can see more clearly now how much she must have struggled.
Sadly, I do not take after her. She's both intelligent and easy-going. She's always finding a reason to laugh or break into dance. :P How I became this anxiety-ridden, I'm not sure, because it certainly wasn't what I saw in our home.
I'm trying now to be more like her, and more like my dear TPF friends on this thread. I have said before that you guys are my role models. Perhaps I don't express the sentiment sufficiently but, I sincerely mean it. The patience, kindness, wisdom and generosity here is unlike any other.
I believe in evolution. I've done a lot wrong and hit some very low moments in my life but, I figure it'll even out if I keep striving to learn from those around me (be it my mum or my pocket friends) and continue to work towards being a better person. We'll see if I can manage it! For now, I console myself with the facts that my cats think I'm the best thing since cat nip. That must count for something!

I'm the same way! I can't picture how people tolerate them. Then again, I remove any jewellery and watch I may be wearing when I'm home. I need bare, clean hands to do basic household stuff (cooking, cleaning, etc).

Oh yes! It's quite common in the Middle East, and Pakistan and India as well. It's amazing how the significance of these things varies depending on the culture.

True! Lots of clinking as she moved.

These are my two main coin purses right now. The Chanel is that iridescent black from a year or two back… I love it and wish I had that whole SLG collection.

And then recently I saw this at Starbucks and nabbed it, just couldn’t resist the CA bear. I guess it’s technically a pouch as opposed to a coin purse.

Oh, I just picked up and glanced at a pouch like this in Starbucks the other day! It was part of their Been Here merchandise. The CA one is cuter than the one I saw. They put out Washington DC ones, even though we’re in MD which, come to think of it, I’m a little offended by, lol. I’m going to console myself by believing the Maryland ones sold out there and they couldn’t leave the shelf empty so had to put the DC ones up.

Hi all! A week ago I left my beautiful Celine belt bag to be taken care of by Celine, basically aside of having some corner wear and hardware tarnishing after 4 years of year, somehow, I don’t know how, the bag had a sort of a scratch of the front bottom part that was kind of peeling. I wish I’ve taken a photo, but I was so scared about it that I immediately brought to the store asking them to take care of it. So long story short, the bag will be shipped to Tuscany to their leather artisans for repair, and for next month or two, I’ll be missing my most loved travel bag.

Since I’ll be traveling to Amsterdam and Paris soon, I just wanted you to help me pick a bag I’ll be travelling with:

- Chloe C small shoulder bag - can be worn crossbody and on the shoulder, transforms day to night by removing a longer shoulder strap. Fits my essentials. This has been seating for a while in the past few months in my closet, so possibly could be great to take her out for a trip.

- Lanvin hobo bag - this is my most worn bag throughout 2022, it’s smaller than Chloe but fits the same amount of things and has two straps, can be worn crossbody and on the shoulder. It is less “in your face” as it doesn’t have any big logos or hardware, and easily transforms day to night. This one has really been one of my go to bags for short trips and one of the most comfy crossbody bags I have.

Valextra Iside small - this one has never travelled with me, aside a short trip to Venice last year, it can be worn crossbody or on the crook of my arm. It has a similar shape to my Celine Belt bag, but smaller, and fits all my essentials. It’s also not as obvious to be a designer bag, but it’s a bit more dressy and formal than the other two. Perhaps I should check whether it fits my passport, as I need a bag that fits it for travel I know other two have no issues with it.

Obviously security is one of the main points for me, that’s why I’m choosing a bag that has a zipper or some sort of closure.

Also, should I be adding a vintage Chanel classic flap to my collection, wouldn’t it be a bit too repetitive with other black bags with gold hardware?

They were the daughters of so and so and they represented.
Now there's a point that hadn't even occurred to me!
Hey, thank you so much! It was probably on H in action ( where I post most RTW action shots bc I generally pair with some form of H. Plus a newer one with the CDG skirt as dress, H lizard suede sample sale 2022 mules and 28K quadrille. The Dior dress alone gives me Velasquez las meninas vibes, and with the CDG, I get the picssso rendition lol
YES! That's it! So glad it wasn't actually pink trousers; you really never know with my wonky memory!
Ah-mah-zing! Love that you already put your personal spin on it. Thanks for indulging me!

Oh wow! Oh no no no! Please don't. I haven't recovered from VL's comment yet.
I'm English. You don't lavish us with praise! We don't know what to do with ourselves! :faint:
A small head nod of approval from a distance is more than sufficient! Anything beyond that makes me squirm!

Do you know which outfits you'll be taking? I would start there and pick the bag that best suits all my outfits. You really can't go wrong, though. All of them are gorgeous!
Thank you! I don’t know yet, but either of black bags would go with everything. I just checked, Valextra Iside does fit my passport. Another point to consider, given we’ll be biking in Amsterdam, other two black bags would be much easier to bike around with, as they’re more casual for the day.
But should I go with burgundy Tods ankle boots and my tailor-made coat my hubby got me for Christmas, then Valextra would be a great pick. I feel like I really miss my Celine already :crybaby:

Here is YSL shopper in Amsterdam a few years ago… can’t believe I traveled with a shopper  this was my first luxury bag and of course I brought it with me on a trip back then! Also still can’t believe with all the prices increases it’s now over 1000€, back then it was a great starter luxury bag

Looking at the picture, it actually got me thinking would be great to style this other Valextra with my Almond Blossom scarf. I haven’t worn both for a while and it didn’t crossed my mind they would actually be great together. It’ll be super windy in Amsterdam for sure

I have no idea which to use, but they are all gorgeous.

Are you committed to biking in Amsterdam?
If so, how about a backpack?
As far as coat, if you bike, you are going to need a raincoat/waterproof coat:biggrin:
Those boots are TDF. Are they comfy?
Oh, good point on the rain, I should definitely check the weather before we go. Perhaps a puffy coat would be a better idea then. But I don’t think we’ll be riding a lot, more like to get from point A to point B if we’re going somewhere far, like the other side of the city. The boots are super comfy! I like to switch from black ankle boots to these, when I need to add a bit of twist, so the outfit doesn’t feel too boring

My vote is for the Lanvin. Chic but with a little edge, can be dressed up or down, rich but not obviously designer. I like the Chloe but the Cs are a bit much for travel.

Are you going to see the Vermeer expo?
