2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Very behind on the luxury postings, but I don’t own most of the brands in the list towards the end of the year.

Here is my YSL collection. (Sorry bad photos lol)

One of my hardiest and favorite boots. Got them in 2017 and still going strong!

I love YSL heels but they are probably some of the most uncomfortable heels I’ve ever owned, and I have narrow feet. (The suede ones on the left are the only comfortable ones)

I don’t use this belt much anymore. May sell it.

These are the only 2 remaining YSL bags in my collection. It’s interesting how I started off so strong with YSL bags and SLGs but then eventually moved away.
The zip around wallet was a gift from my very first SA.

My little black dress! The only semi-formal/dressy dress I have. But it’s the only one I need.

Great YSL pieces. Your little black dress is my favourite. It´s total perfection!

Still no stats... but the pouch project is finally finished. Sigh of relief!

This one is made from the remnants ( hence the stitchlines on some pieces and patching- I used almost every little bit I still had) of my red curb couch leather and parts of a very ugly Massimo Dutti bag for 5€ which I only bought for its hardware and the lovely Bree strap it came with.

IMG_20231202_235750026.jpgIMG_20231202_235809162.jpgIMG_20231202_235839844.jpg

The lining is grey polished cotton from the Dutti bag and did not make me happy. I prefer leather linings... only I didn´t have enough leather and my machine already heavily struggled with the shell of the bag. Too much piping, too many layers...
So I made a red quilted insert. The little pocket was harvested from the Dutti bag, too.

The inspiration for this project was a 30ies clutch I saw in a post by a Canadian collector of German fashion from the pre war era.

I LOVE every new creation you post even more than the one that came before. This is so stunning!

Thank you!

I´m really feeling relieved it´s finally finished. This one was a real struggle. What I did would have been much easier with thin leather and of course with the professional post machine. Making a design with that amount of piping and layers with thick couch leather is almost impossible on my poor domestic machine and I feared I might break her. She´s my mother´s Pfaff from the early 60ies. I love this machine!

The pouch is a Christmas present for DH. I hope he will like it and not scrutinize the flaws too much. He is very much in streamline vintage cars and the design should make him happy.

Sorry, I didn´t take any pics of the stages this time. This came out of thin air and I didn´t have a clue what I was doing throughout the whole process.

Extraordinary! The talent and skill this took! Wow!

This is fantastic! You are creating things I would buy if I saw them in a shop. Simply beautiful!

A professional leather artisan wouldn´t call my work skillful, I fear, more makeshift as I am clearly coming from dressmaking, but I´m really happy I managed to make it with the limited supplies and tools I have. I would love to really learn the proper skills and get my hands on all the nice professional equipment.

November stats are:
1 bag in, 1 SLG in, 0 bags out, 0 SLGs out

It would have been two bags in, but I received one damaged and returned it. The one I brought in was a Dooney and Bourke I bought on great sale just because I was curious about their Florentine leather. I have learned that this is not a good reason to buy a bag. I bought it and it immediately went to the very bottom of bag list. I haven't even carried it, and don't have a desire to. I don't care very much for the bag. One day, it will end up with someone who likes it and they will say "I wonder what happened that someone never even used this ..."

The 1 SLG in was the slim long card holder or whatever it's called, that's a winter scene cityscape. I don't regret this purchase, but I can already tell I prefer my Coach Dreamie card holder + a compact wallet. I mean, the KS is cute, but it really is not giving me the thrill I hoped. It doesn't feel as nice as my Coach one, which was my first and only one until now. Nevertheless I will be using it throughout December.

It's quite amazing that you were able to make that with limited equipment. It's quite impressive!

I´m really sorry your purchases were both kind of disappointing. It´s always painful when something we excitedly chose and buy, then wait for the parcel and on unwrapping it´s not a 100%.

I am so sorry. Perhaps rehome both immediately?
