2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

August stats

Bags = 0 bags in/ 0 bags out
  • 5/12 bags used.
  • Once again my Celine triomphe was most used this month. It has been a summer favorite!
SLGs = 1 in/ 0 out
Jewelry = 0 in/ 0 out
Shoes = 0 in/ 0 out
Accessories = 0 in/ 0 out

Clothes = 1 in/ 1 out
  • another linen shirt for the warm and muggy weather. Summer weather in Southern California goes far into September and part of October so I’m sure I’ll get use out of it.
  • Said goodbye to another pair of ill-fitting trousers.

Bag use has been a little sparse this past month. I’m dealing with a staph and fungal infection that have been going on for 3 weeks and 8 weeks respectively. This usually happens to me after a high period of stress, usually from work. May to July was very productive but also very stressful.

Now I’m just dealing with the consequences. :P (On meds, just takes time)
Get well soon ❤️

For now I´d like to take a rain check on the August stats.
My head is too muddled up to do them properly.
Did I even get any new bags in August?
I guess I did: I bought a big pochette from the Galeries Lafayette inhouse brand in Paris and a lovely friend gifted me a Coach wristlet and a funny and absolutely not legit small Evelyn (which I will never wear, but cherish because it was a gift with a personal history.)
I definetely didn´t part with any bags.

It´s the middle of the night and I´m slowly calming down. My head is still out of order.
Too many thoughts, too many pictures, too many concerns.

But life has to go on. School has started again.
There´s a lot of paperwork regarding my childrens´dad´s death even on my end, especially, because him and I missed to sort out lots of things when we parted ways many years ago. It worked the way it was and the distance meant it wasn´t important to actually change anything. His phone contract still is in my name for example. That´s an easy one. There are more, that are a lot more difficult...

To stay sane I´m back at sewing.

I did quite a lot of blissful shopping in Paris. Not the luxury kind. The contrary!
DS and I raided the Freep Stars and other thrift/vintage shops and actually only bought cheap.

The best deal certainly was two big bags of used clothes for 10 € from the Freep Star bins.

(Are there new health regulations in France? I wonder! The thrift shops all were much cleaner than even in February. They didn´t stink anymore!)

This haul included a gorgeous velvet trenchcoat for DS from some French/Japanese brand (that only needed a wash and will have some small and easy repairs soon) and a crazy black velvet corduroy 2000s pirate coat from a Brazilian brand for myself.

I loved it at first sight.
DS told me it looked like a Halloween costume... the skull lining had to go... the gold piping was tacky...
DH threw in some more comments and I fell for all of them.

So instead of simply fixing the buttonholes and squeezing myself into the fairly small thing and wearing it as is 2000´s style (as in pouring out of it) I started unpicking, adjusting, putting in a proper new lining...
I´ve been at this for days, swearing, but making slow and steady progress.

Would love to see photo when you're done and even a before and after if you have. Glad you have found a healthy outlet for yourself to chanel your talent and so sorry to hear about the tragic loss of your former husband/ father of your children. I can't even imagine how upsetting that is for your entire family. Sending thoughts and prayers your way!

Oh no! Hope you feel better soon!:hugs:

It's always a nightmare sorting out the chaos after someone has passed away. The paperwork mingles with the memories and all the emotions...it's exhausting. Please take it one day at a time and be gentle with yourself. :hugs:

As with all of your projects, I have no doubt it will be a work of art when you're done! Can't wait to see the pics. :)

So sorry you, and your children, are going through this. :console:

Sounds like you made some amazing finds in Paris.

I am so excited to see this pirate coat!!!
And a velvet trench sounds heavenly! :girlsigh::hbeat:

I´m done! It took all last night and all today (no, I didn´t sleep) to finally finish, but now it´s a proper coat and I´m fairly happy with the craftmanship. Inserting a taffeta lining into a stretchy coat is a venture... especially when there is no proper old lining to use as a pattern...

But document holder falling to pieces
And regretting not buying Valentino black calf bag in July

For September changed from navy crocodile to navy patent leather mock croc bag for Autumn(will change bag again for winter).

Reduced bag Wishlist from 4 to 3 bags- but all major purchases and I’m spending on clothes and jewellery , so probably no new handbag until 2024..

Next June my Niece turns 21 , I’ve promised her a designer bag-and possibly one of my own which I don’t really use.
She’ll be a student for another year so less discerning and we’re so close she’ll treasure whichever I give her or whatever I buy her.

I’ll see what next year brings..

Dh and I went shopping and I went to Mulberry. Saw this back in March and kept pictures on my phone. Didn’t see it at first but Sa knows me so he pointed to their storage closet and said do I see what I was looking for. Sure did! I still wasn’t sure about strap length as it is not removable, but Dh liked it so it came home. He is not a fan of my nylon bags, so when I like a leather one , he is happy. Does your significant other or friends try to get you to pick a certain style of item? Photos are not great as it was very cloudy out.
