2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Uh oh, my new dishwasher is Bosch!:oh: Any further info would be appreciated (not that I can do much about it now, as it's installed already).
I’m sure your brand new one is fine. I’ve had more than one. They don’t seem to clean dishes very well ( and I wipe mine and rinse before putting them in). And, my glasses are a mess. Perhaps because the dishwasher ‘drinks’ a ton of finish rinse aid, and doesn’t seem to put it to any use. . . And, it doesn’t really dry stuff well either, but manages at the same time to bake grit onto the glasses. I have had service repair people tell me nothing is wrong with it.* On the positive side, it IS extremely quiet. Lol.

*if you need service, call Bosch first or make sure that your repair person is certified to repair Bosch before he comes to your home.

I will have to keep an eye on the glasses. I don't use finish rinse aid though. Agree that it doesn't really dry stuff very well, which is annoying. Lol, yes it is quiet, which the salesperson kept emphasizing, but honestly, my very first dishwasher was noisy but did a good job of cleaning and was reliable which is most important.
Thanks for the tip about the repair person being certified to repair Bosch. That's a good point! Hopefully I won't need one for a long time.

Wow, it’s super interesting to see the different reviews on Bosch! We’ve had ours for a few years now and really like it. We checked reviews before buying and it was rated well, which is why we took the plunge. We had two different Maytag dishwashers before that. Loved them both and considered a third Maytag (we have been in our house almost 26 years, so they’ve been lasting over a decade each), but the Bosch we got was even better rated at the time, so we went with it.

Have you tried using dishwasher cleaner? I use one tab about once a month.

Yes, thank you. :) Finish and cascade make a pod or tab. When I start using the Miele, I will upgrade and buy Miele power scale or something like that. But I think the finish is working bc the floor of the dishwasher is clear; my cutlery is clean; and no odor and plenty of steam. It’s simply like the dishwasher just decides what it would like to wash lol.

ETA: I’ve also tried DIY cleaner ( various internet concoctions with vinegar or baking soda) after a lot of finish did not seem to do it. Your Electrolux sounds amazing

@DME, every repair person I’ve ever met recommends Maytag :)
Maytag is what they buy for their own homes

@Purses & Perfumes , re below, absolutely clean that filter on the bottom. Frequently :)

Good to know that you're happy with Bosch. I really want this one to last for at least a decade! @whateve, I've never tried the dishwasher cleaning tabs, but I have read that one should periodically clean the removable filter at the base of the dishwasher.

Thank you all for the kind words! They feel like a huge hug and are very nice to experience.
I´m slowly resurfacing.

Paris didn´t fulfil most of my expectations, but it was still ok. After our week there we had planned to spend another week with my grown up children and enjoy "civilization" in the Düsseldorf area.
The very day we arrived my ex-husband totally unexpectedly died at 58. My children were devastated. Everything changed within a second.
I was shell shocked too and so sad, mainly for my children. Poor DS didn´t know what to feel. He never had much to do with my ex, but his siblings´sadness and helplessness made him very sad and uncomfortable.

DH fled the scene after a day. We were all camping in my parents´house together (my eldest DD lives in the downstairs with her boy-friend and had her brother on the couch, my youngest daughter got the couch in the small upstairs flat I still have in the house) and he felt suffocated.
I stayed until after the funeral, trying to be helpful by doing the hands on stuff like cleaning and sorting and by simpy being present.

Everything will change for my children now. Two of them were still living with their dad. They are now back in the house and fighting the ghosts while the eldest is deep into paperwork and trying to teach her brother and younger sister how living on their own will work.
Oh hon. I’m so sorry. Sending you peace and grace. :hugs:

Could not resist this burgundy allsaints leather jacket. Still want to pick up a blazer that would dress up jeans a bit. Any suggestions for a mid range brand. I have a long torso and am fairly tall.

What a fantastic color!

I have a Bosch - it’s fine.
We replaced a KitchenAid - which worked fairly well but the racks kept rusting and we got to the point where replacing another rack was going to cost about a third of the cost of a new dishwasher. So new dishwasher.

It’s very quiet - like I have to tell Mr Cookie to be quiet so I can hear the tiny ‘beep’ that means I’ve managed to start it. I like the 3rd rack too.

It's kind of sad that replacing a part is so expensive that it makes more sense to get a new appliance even though the unit is running just fine otherwise. We did the same thing with our very first dishwasher -- the issue was with the racks and so we ended up getting a new one. Glad to hear you are liking it. I am still trying to figure out what to put in the third (top) rack, as I am so accustomed to the basket for the spoons, forks, etc.

Circling back to bags, we have had such frequent downpours this summer that I need a special raincoat for my bags! Rainy days and Mondays...
A question for everyone: What's your "rainy day" bag? I've been using a very old pebble grain bag that is going strong despite being exposed to all kinds of weather.

I absolutely love the third rack. I use mine for large utensils and knives. I still put regular silverware in the basket.

For rainy weather I like patent leather or pebbled. I have a vintage Dooney AWL I use in the rain but I also have many pebbled leather bags that would do fine in wet weather. It doesn't rain much where I live.
