2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

August 20 - Burberry, Celine

August 27 - Coach, Chanel

Hi everyone and sorry! I haven´t been online for a while. Life got in the way and a very silly sewing project, that is way over my head, but I accepted the challenge and now it has to work out...
I wished I could sew right now- as a nightowl the middle of the night is my most productive time- but DH is sleeping and "loud activities " are off limits. Living open plan is not always the best option...

We will be leaving for "home" at the end of the week and going on to Paris from there on Tuesday.

I´m getting nervous... what will I pack and how will I manage not to look as shabby as I do right now? The usual. Sorry, I need to vent...

I hate leaving the house, because then I have to live up to expectations. In here it´s not important that my hair has grown out its dye job again and my nails are growing out my first ever attempt of using UV polish. I am getting my usual comments... grey, old, fat, meant jokingly but hitting hard.

My heart hurts for you every time you mention your family hurting you through their "jokes". I hope you are able to work with them to express that they need to tone the comments down or risk damaging you and your relationships with them.

If it helps from an outsider, you're an amazingly talented and creative seamstress with a great eye, a classic figure and dramatic coloring.

And getting older is dumb to mock. "Oh, wow, you survived living another year. What a loser!"

I have more to say, but. Grr.

Um. I hope you have a wonderful trip! Are you going for a specific show? I vote for taking lots of fab clothes so you have lots of choices, and extra empty bags for finds at les puces. Your bag choices sound wise and practical as well.

But are expectations important? Why do I have to live up to them? Why am I even almost making them my own?

Ok, it will be much nicer to dress up a little and almost all vintage pieces in my wandering wardrobe are exactly right for this. The shabby bit are the very few recent, fast fashion, overly comfy pieces I own. And we are going by car. I could just shove a ton of my fineries into huge shopping bags and take it all...

The hair? Honestly, after the last extensive dye job- dark streaks all over- I got nice comments like "looking younger" at home, but personally I wasn´t sure and had problems to recognise myself. It grew out beautifully, natural looking. I might leave it as is or only add very few tiny dark streaks to the front at home. The hairdresser didn´t have an open appointment within the next two weeks. It´s holiday time, they said.
The nails? They need to be done. Youtube might be able to tell me how to remove that magic stuff, that sticks so well and hasn´t suffered at all from constant sewing over the last two weeks. Cheapskate me should have bought the complete kit with remover and all... I only bought one bottle of polish and used the ancient UV lamp from the fleamarket.

And which bag to take?
Something fancy for home, I guess, maybe the Miss Dior I haven´t even worn yet and something under the radar and as practical as possible for Paris. I´m thinking Lady Perla here. It´s big enough for my needs, can take a wide soft crossbody strap (not the slim, hard original shoulder strap), will go with everything from boho over casual to vintage, it has a reliable zipper and it was cheap, so if any scratches happen, I shouldn´t be too sad...
Try not to stress and just enjoy the trip. If your hair bothers you maybe try a different salon.

Aww, thank you!
They obviously have a strange sense of humor and sometimes it oversteps my boundaries... DS usually is actually only making fun and will feel very bad when he realizes it was too much. Still it sticks. DH sometimes is just grumpy or mad at getting older himself. I should have learned to handle both meanwhile and should have grown a thicker skin.

This time we are not going for a show. It´s just holidays. This will be a new experience.
I still haven´t managed to pack. This will have to be done tomorrow... panic is rising!
Instead I´ve been fighting with a ridiculous sewing project, simply to proof to myself, that I can do it. Not wise. This suitcase isn´t going to pack itself.

Silly sewing challenge: DH brought in a ratty sofa throw, my first thought was: coat!

Here´s what I came up with. This is the first coat I made since the early 2000s. Lately I´ve only been altering pieces.

It´s a bit tighter on "Olga" than on my actual body.
The fabric is very loosely woven and has more snags and small defects than I´m happy with, but for now it´s ok. I´ve been thinking, that in case too many more defects will happen I can always start embroidering on it.

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I love purses, I love talking about them so I joined the purseforum. I am currently on ban island. I have 14 bags. I am so tempted to want to buy a bag but I want to pay to get a master's degree in international business. All of my bags are contemporary because if they are expenaive I will not use them. I have gone down that road before. I have:
5 Patricia Nash Brailes Satchels
3 Patricia Nash Jules Satchels
1 Patricia Nash crossbody
1 Coach Parker
1 Coach Madison Shoulder bag
1 Rebecca Minkoff quilted Love
1 Aimee Kestenberg All for Love crossbody
1 Scoop Faux Fur Clutch
Welcome! Brand is not important…the most important thing is that you love them and use them!

It’s gorgeous ! Love everything about this, especially how the back was pieced together. Wow!
It reminds me of some older etro pieces, not only with respect to the pattern, but how the jacket is tailored
Have an amazing time in Paris!

To remove gel polish, soak cotton balls in acetone and place one on each nail. Let them sit on there for a good 10 mins and the gel should peel off easily. Make sure you soak it long enough or you will peel layers off the top of your nail.

Not silly at all. Stunning piece, very chic and unique in my opinion. You should be proud. Try not to let others' comments bother you (I know easier said than done). You are talented and if you're really that unhappy about your hair, throw on a cute hat!

This looks fantastic.

I have lost my marbles. Mz wallace is having an online warehouse sale for the last three days. I have so many bags coming it is not funny. Luckily any that I don't want will sell quickly. At almost 70 percent off of bags that I was eyeing at full price I went hog wild. There are not many styles left. Some sold out in minutes when the sale started. For once I will wait for arrival before I sell anything else. One bag I bought was a boomerang because I thought I would like a different one better, so I sold it . When the new bag came I regretted it, so now I wait.

Would love to see photos of your splurge when they arrive, if you’re willing!
