2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Some of my exotics:

I have quite a few more croc, python lizard etc but I can only upload 12 pics and I think you've seen them all before anyway. I've tried to show a bit of everything.

My most used is probably my red BV python tote (not pictured) and my least is the Gucci Malachite 1973 (with G detail) and that's because it's one of my favourites, and just a masterpiece in every way. I could have bought so much that year (shame I couldn't walk in the matching shoes). My Gucci Secret is also one of my favourites. Most of my crocs are underused - I need to address that.

My oldest (to me) is the pink velvet/snake crossbody (last week's pics for textiles) and my newest is the hair calf Blondie that came with me to a rock concert (so much easier now nobody is allowed to make and the bar's far away from the band). My oldest exotic (in time) is the Art Deco horn croc clutch (I have quite a few vintage as you can see). I only have one H croc (Pullman) one of my favourite H bags too along with the SM, vintage H is even better than new IMO. Gucci also make great exotics, the one I missed out on was the silver lizard Dionysus from 2019, but Im not very good with chains on larger bags. I also missed a hand-held dark green Croc Chanel,I was feeling guilty for buying something else at the time. Guilt is a stupid and pointless emotion; do or don't do, have no regrets.

holy moly! :faint:

I think it is very pretty! I love rabbits too! I only had one. He only lived 3 years. I've never tried again. Did your two rabbits get along well? Were they both female?

View attachment 5798936

Oh, so adorable! What a sweet face. Was he a dwarf? My one that only lived a short time was a dwarf. She was female, the other was male. They did get along. He attempted to mate, lol. Though he was neutered, it was before I could get her spayed. She started making a nest with her fur and everything. I was like "baby, he's shooting blanks", lol. I don't have their pics on this computer, though I have a pic in a frame. My one that lived longest was adopted from the shelter. He was about 1 when I got him, so since I had him for 9 years, he lived to be 10. They told me he was a Rex mix. He looked basically like the pictures you get if you search for 'rex blue otter', he looked like this:

I miss him, and miss having a rabbit, but with the kids, I can't handle another being to take care of right now.

Sooo cute!
I had 2 rabbits in high school. They were the sweetest. They lived in the backyard until one day they dug a very long tunnel under the house and during a thunderstorm I pulled them out because I was afraid they’d get wet and contract pneumonia or something. I was covered in mud lol.
After that, my parents thought it was best that they stay indoors at night.

For some reason I can only find photos of one of them.

The other was his wife. Same species but brown and white with floppy ears. She was so cute.
Sad I can’t find any photos of her. That was back then when the iPhone or any smart phone wasn’t invented yet so I was taking photos on a Motorola lol.

Rabbits are so fun. A lot of work but they give a lot of laughs. My son's rabbit was as big as cat. It had it's own sled and loved to go down the little hill on it . It would bully the other rabbit or dog off the sled. It would also play chase with the spaniel we had at the time. It was quite the character. Your rabbit was very cute.

Having reviewed my bags, I sold 6 (might be 7) that I’d stopped using due to lifestyle changes and just the need to carry less stuff generally. I wanted a casual, easy, hobo style bag I could wear on my shoulder as an alternative to my cross body bags - and bought the Gucci Jackie, which turned out not to be my cup of tea at all.
So I went back to the Aphrodite. I had reservations about this style because of the logo and the flatness, but took a punt on it anyway.
Well it’s arrived, and I’m so happy. Reservations have gone the way of a June frost and the goatskin is fab. I think when you feel you could run out and buy one in every colour, you know it’s the right choice  :happydance:

Love the Aphrodite bag, and so glamorous in white, glad it's a keeper!

I wasn’t sure if there was a better place to post this! The title does say “shopping my own collection”… if anything, I can resort to the June 4th theme of Textiles by saying I have a few textile bags in the photos below!!

I am trying to make the most of our closet, so I have embarked on giving my collection some TLC and working on displaying them. I am about 1/3 of the way through, but I’m liking the progress so far.

My problem is, if I don’t see my purses, I forget what I have. So storing in dust bags and boxes doesn’t work great for me. Plus, I love my collection, so seeing it makes me happy and reminds me of what I have, so I end up using my bags much more frequently than when they are hidden away.

So, without further ado, are photos of the 1/3 of my handbag collection reorganization project. Hopefully I will be able to share the “finished” project eventually. My current fear is that I may actually run out of room for my purses before I start encroaching on some of my husband’s space. But then again, maybe he won’t notice…

Feel free to ask any questions about what is in these photos. A mix of contemporary, luxury, and “small”/independent brands in there. I can’t say I have a lot of purses other people would have that are well known, I mostly just buy purses that appeal to me… which are a lot.

Edit: it pains me that my little coral side pouch bag looks orange and not coral in the photos above! Here’s an attempt for a better color correction… why is it so hard to take accurate color photos?? (Probably does not help it’s under indoor lighting… maybe the colors change when the file gets compressed too??)

You have a lovely variety of colour and pattern in your bags. They’re very pretty. I don’t keep mine in dust bags either (it’s too much of a faff for me), but I do keep them in a cupboard out of the light. My house gets a lot of bright sun and I worry they could fade. Good luck with your project.

I have this bag and love it too. It's lovely in white! And if you put enough stuff in it, it's not flat anymore anyway:noworry: :hrmm:.

You have a wonderful variety of color & patterns. I love the floral field tote and the Faure le Page.

I wish I had better news today guys but... I don't. I pray that everyone else is enjoying their shiny red bags!!

I was fired today.

While I'm going to be okay, this wound is very fresh. They gave me a letter when I was leaving nearly two hours ago. The store has undergone management shift. I knew the new owner wasn't too keen on me so while I'm surprised, I'm not too surprised. What's really disgusting is that one of my coworkers has worked for the company for many years. She's created deep connections, along with dealing with heavy personal matters. I can't imagine how she's feeling right now as I noticed she received the same letter as I did. I'm sick to my stomach right now. I won't be going in for those last two weeks as I owe the new owner nothing.

These are the moments where it is important to reflect upon what we've already accomplished, how far we've come and realize that the world is bigger than a crappy, toxic job. I have the ability to move with change, not against it. I won't let this injure my self confidence. I walked out with my head held high knowing that I don't need them. While this definitely impacts my financial planning I'll figure it out. In the meanwhile.... time to relax.

You're all really incredible. If you're unable to read such a negative post then I understand as well. I'm so happy I have this space to vent and share my new things with you all. Thank YOU!!
I just came across this thread and realize this post is a few months old so hopefully things are looking up for you. I just wanted to say that in my experience, when things like this happen, it tends to be a blessing in disguise. I think it means something better will come along for you. As the old saying goes, when one door closes.....

5 years ago i was fired from my job where i had worked for over 10 years, had been promoted several times, had been the #1 salesperson nationwide 3 times and in the top 10 every year. You can imagine what a shock this was, especially since i had just given up my dream of moving out of state and not only pulled the trigger on buying a house to settle here but dumped my entire savings into gutting and renovating the house. Essentially i took a step back for a year but then out of the blue i received a call from the owner of a similar company who said he had heard about me and wanted me to work for him. I have now been in my current role for a little over 4 years, love my job, and am making literally 3 times what i was at other job. Stay positive and hopefully something similar will happen for you!
