2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

ohmigosh - that's incredible!!
Thank you so much, dear Cookie!
Wow, you are amazing! It's so beautiful!
Thank you very much! It was nothing but my usual "there´s material left, go ahead and use it".
Your work is truly impressive. The bag is beautiful & I never would have guessed the source material for the dress.
Thank you! The material for the dress came from our neighbours´house. They were having a clearout and grandma´s bedspread was destined for the bin. I removed the wadding and backing to use the upper material which is nothing but GDR plastic... durable at least! For fun I sewed the old material tag from the blanket into my dress.
The bedspread´s lining is waiting to be used for a different project. It´s stiff GDR Dederon, perfect to make a petticoat.

Well look at Ms. Professional Pursemaker over here! With a lining and piping no less! Excellent job.
Thank you!
Haha, I wish! Lining and piping to me are the easy way to create a shape. For professional quality I´d need a professional machine, though. My beloved 60ies Pfaff 230 sews almost everything, but this project was problematic. The crocheted raffia is very tricky. It managed to splice the sewing thread and make even the sharpest leather needles dull in no time.

Finally! It´s done:
please meet my new me-made raffia handbag. I had some leftover raffia yarn, a remnant from the ugly white leather skirt I already used as lining for my Jaguar me-make, some leftover felt table runner and some awful black pork nappa from a cheap leather jacket that wasn´t good for anything... High time for polishing s..t !

When life gives you an old bedspread... go ahead: make a dress!

Someone talk me out of this!

The ombré is stunning. But it’s hand carry only, which would limit usage.

This is stunning! I bought you went out and bought a new bag. Well done!

Thanks for all the thoughtful feedback.
@Vintage Leather I don’t hate hand carry, but it’s not my first choice.
@whateve The shape of this bag + the handle definitely reminds me of an Easter basket too.
@Pessie it wouldn’t be the first time I bought something knowing I wouldn’t get a ton of use out of it.
@papertiger and @cowgirlsboots it reminds me of a fun summer drink
@nyeredzi I don’t generally go for yellow or orange bags. The past couple of years have felt dark. Now that I am back outside, like Beyoncé said, I feel the desire to brighten things up. Hope that makes sense. I couldn’t use it for errands but I could use it for days in the office or going to brunch/drinks with the girls.

That’s really interesting, I hadn’t been conscious of it, but I’ve also been choosing brighter colours for interiors and clothes recently. And it’s it year since I bought a bag, but both the ones I’ve been looking at are very bright!
Have you bought it?

Hi all! It’s been a while since life has been pretty busy. With everything going on (divorce, single mom life, increased responsibilities at work, stress impacting my health) I decided to get myself something for Mother’s Day. I also got a raise the same week, which was really nice. I originally thought I wanted to add the Faded Blue color to my Cassie 19 collection but I didn’t love it when I saw it in person. My favorite SA was able to hunt down a Sport Red one for me and I got it 25% off. Not bad for my first bag purchase of the year. They had some treats at the boutique for Mother’s Day as well, which made for a much-needed, fun shopping trip.

First time wearing my bag today and I happened to snap this shot outside after dropping my little guy off to daycare.

I've been buying brighter colors for awhile. I thought maybe it was because my eyes were getting worse.

What a stunning red! It suits you so well! Congratulations! It makes me happy to hear, you had a fun and there were treats too. The little things sometimes make such a big difference.
