2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

I'm sorry you have that injury now! What were you knitting?
Back in the day when I was still at school, 15 or 16 years old and always short of pocket money I took on a job for a store that sold both yarn and handknitted jumpers, cardigans, scarves- mostly made to measure. Making the goods became my job. They paid me well (for a schoolgirl... I earned more than my monthly allowance, which wasn´t opulent, for one jumper.) As my teachers didn´t mind I usually knitted at school and I always knitted in the evening when watching tv. Often enough I made one jumper or cardigan per week for the shop, sometimes two. They let me keep the leftovers and I knitted for myself too.
My hands took offence, but I loved the money, wore leather bandages and carried on. The shop closed after about two years. My hands are still ruined!

tailor everything.
I totally second this! Tayloring is key!

Did you ever just want to start over with your bags and clothes?
Sometimes I do.
In this situation I usually do a big purge and try to sell clothes that don´t fit me anymore or I don´t love anymore, shoes and bags. Fortunately it´s not easy to sell my "stuff" and often enough I am very happy to rediscover my treasures after a while of them being stored away in the sales box. Some pieces will linger in the box forever, though and I am very sure they aren´t right for me anymore.

Recently I´ve been revisiting clothes I had simply shoved in an old suitcase because I was unhappy with them. It´s so rewarding to change them into something I like now and not spend any extra money.

Here´s an example: I bought this dress at a flea market, because I used to have one like it when I was a teenager. Back then it looked great on me. Now? Well, my friend had one look at me and all she said was: "frumpy!".
After putting a lot of work into repairing it this was very frustrating.

Now it looks like this and no matter what she will say this time, I am very sure it suits me. I used a silk shirt (from a vintage job lot) I wouldn´t ever have worn, all the material of the old dress including the trims and some embroidery floss from the flea market.

This one was a recycling project. The materials all were unpicked clothes. An old aunty had sent me a lot of 90ies clothes she considered vintage. I mainly hated them, but liked the fabrics...

I did actually manage a donation run - I also finally sorted through my tools, and have each of my cousins a large tote full of old car repair tools.

I held on to one set of the carpentry tools, plus my electronic tools and general home repair stuff. But I am not going to need a break puller at this time of my life, and it’s time to stop holding on to it.

Tools was one of my four big categories I was tackling this year - tools, jewelry, art and books.

So I’m 28% done.

Wow great stats!

April stats (wow time flies!)

Bags = 1 bags in/ 0 bags out
  • 7/12 bags used.
  • YSL black on black most used
SLGs; Jewelry; Shoes = 0 in/ 0 out

I cleaned out a handful of very old fast fashion clothes that have just been sitting there at the bottom of drawers.

Considering to buy a white pair of sandals for the summer.
My Chloe woody sandals that I’ve worn literally every single day for 2 years are finally breaking down. I think it’s about time to replace them. If not this year then definitely next year lol.

Did you ever just want to start over with your bags and clothes?

Restart now? lol, no, like @whateve said, too much work haha.

But if I could go back in time?
Eh, probably a bit of both?

Bag-wise I would probably tell my younger self to go buy more Chanel  (mostly to beat price hikes).
Clothing-wise, I'd probably still make mistakes but I would tell myself to chill with the fast fashion lol. I used to buy a ridiculous amount of fast fashion and it was so wasteful. There would be a lot of items that I'd never wear and still have tags or only maybe worn once. It was ghastly. :yucky:
