2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

I used to really love/focus on structured top handle bags, I think, because they have such presence, were so different from what I typically got and spoke to who I wanted to be. But I moved toward bags that were still top handled with shape but had sone slouch because they are a better fit for who I am and my lifestyle.
Very interesting observation.

Thank you! I agree with you that brown bags are easier to incorporate year-round than black. Love your styling pics, which beautifully demonstrate the versatility of brown bags year-round.

I think, in my mind, I had come to associate my jumbo with winter coats. I had become accustomed to styling it that way. Your pics have given me several new styling ideas, especially for the warmer months. I love them all, but my particular favorites are the pics with the white skirt, the ones with the cream jacket and victoria, and blue jacket, and the belted dress with the picotin -- so chic! And your brown bags are all fab -- my faves are your gold birkin and that gorgeous dark brown picotin!

ETA: What is the bag in the last picture? It's a beautiful shade of tan/cognac brown.
Thanks! I think your chanel is gorgeous! It’s a TGM picotin, no longer in production. A few other TPFers have this one.

For this week‘s theme, I have metallic bags scattered throughout a few group pics and two metallic camo carry on roller bags. i prefer gunmetal metallics to bright gold. Though I am warming up to bronze.

I have one metallic clutch, the BV Knot and it is actually made of metal (pics coming in a day or so, perhaps sooner if I can find any on my phone). Thinking of metallics makes me reflect on how our bag tastes can change. A few years ago, I wasn't particularly enamored of metallic bags. Well, that has certainly changed as I have come to appreciate them more and more. I am particularly drawn to BV's beautiful metallics -- the sheen, the depth and shades are beautiful. @Pessie, your BV Cabat is just gorgeous!

Coming back to changing bag tastes, the reissue is another example. I've gone from being lukewarm to really appreciating it, and now wish I had got one before the incessant price increases.
Which brings me to a question:
Have you gone from being lukewarm to really loving something? Or vice versa? How have your bag tastes changed in that respect? Interested to hear!
I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I was never a big fan of totes. Then I’m early 2019 I bought this one.

Now I’m a huge fan & own many - both traditional totes like this one and the boxier market totes.

That's a beautiful tote! Do you have a size preference with your totes? I like a large tote with a top zip for travel, but for daily use, a smaller size with top handles and an optional longer strap is more practical.

Thanks!
The size I use really depends on my mood & activities.

I find this MJ tote too big for daily use (it’s the large size). But my son & I went on a road trip last summer & it was perfect for carrying things like toiletries, my second purse, jewelry, etc.

For general day use, I like a medium sized tote to throw my stuff in and go.

I love a structured tote with a closure, preferably a zipper, too. I think a structured, well finished one in a beautiful leather with an interesting detail or two is a fantastic blend of sleek and casual…it can ride that line perfectly. I prefer a small to medium, since I rarely have use for a large one in daily use. The large ones I have for things like weekenders are not leather, but some kind of canvas.

This tote is beautiful. I love the knot detail of the decorative straps on the sides. I've seen a couple other totes with such a detail and like it every time I see it.

I also don't consider myself a tote person, but I guess I have one, maybe? It's advertised as a bucket bag, but it's also fairly tote-like. But I haven't gotten others. I LOVE the Marc Jacobs The Tote Bag colors, there are a couple of colors that are killing me slowly. And while I'm pondering a colorful bag for my birthday coming up, I don't know if I can do those, as I'm not a huge fan of carrying a tote. Seeing the Prada raffia tote on Purseblog, though, at the outrageous (IMO, of course) price of $2k, made me think my next crochet project should be a raffia tote. I see that I already had a couple of crochet tote patterns in my favorites.

Not that I’m trying to enable :graucho:, but the smaller MJ totes can be carried crossbody.

These are both the mini size. They hold quite a bit. And if you are really minimal, they have the micro size.

I'd love to see your crocheted raffia tote if you ever make it. Maybe I should try one too.

You ladies are the best/worst enablers! I actually tend to prefer a comfortable shoulder carry to a crossbody. If I ever got one of The Totes, it would be a small or mini in leather. Im not minimal at all, do micro wouldn’t work. Love the colors of yours too, especially that denim. This line does colors so well

I think it would be great for you to do one too. Should be a relatively quick project, so we might actually finish it! I’m 4/5 of the way through on the first of a pair of socks. Maryland Sheep and Wool is coming up, too, and I’m supposed to finish these socks before I buy any more yarn.
