I very much agree with you there. I haven't purchased a leather LV bag since.

Bottega has the best leather under $10K and my YSL bags still look new despite being carried often for years now.
True that. Even my metallic Saint Laurent mini bag that I have had for years now looks practically brand new. valentino leather is beautiful too although I have navy patent version, it is such a dream bag AND the bag is lined in red leather from inside.

I hope they don’t phase it out. I don’t like to carry all leather bags. They are better at canvas. I thought it would be a no-brained to stick with what you are good at design and producing.

Didn’t this rumor first start in 2020 when there were production slow downs and issues getting materials? I remember a lot of canvas pieces being sold out on the website and in stores at the time - which sent everyone into a panic. The monogram canvas is the most recognized designer symbol/fabric in the world imo, so I really don’t see them shooting themselves in the foot by phasing out their most iconic and known material. It would only ramp up the already thriving resale market and LVMH doesn’t want that, they want people to continue to buy new pieces from their stores. Maybe I’ll eat my words one day but I highly doubt they will ever completely phase out canvas, it doesn’t make logical or financial sense.

I agree. I guess I should be glad if they make less canvas…my wallet will be safe!

Honestly, it's happened for at least a decade now. Every time I see it, I can't help but think quit trying to make fetch happen. Bumbags did come back into fashion, so who knows, but I more feel it's a line to justify low stock of canvas during the holidays and just push purchasers to buy leather for gifts.

They’re still releasing new designs of canvas bags… doubt it’s phasing out..the CAs are just not keen to sell them as much because of low comms.
Yes. At least in Vuitton Helsinki there was an abundance of mono canvas. I was shown all styles I requested and other clients were being offered mostly mono canvas when they seemed to prefer it. To me phasing out of monogram canvas is just gossip. Sure LV pushes leather on us but just in my opinion coated canvas is the DNA of LV. There is the premium section but Vuitton wants a broad clientle and monogram canvas attracts many. They are not trying to exlude anyone but are offering a variety of products some of which are aimed at a younger audince that may buy a t-shirt, some SLG, sneakers etc. Simultanously adds and the website show case the more expensive styles but ”cheaper” (though actually very pricey) canvas sells itself.

That said I love older LV leathers and their suede is so soft and nice to touch. I do think that at least prior to 2015 (no experience of newer leathers) LV leather bags were really high quality compared to coated canvas bags.

I don't think they will ever phase out canvas, it's their history and heritage. They are discontinuing old models because there are too many fake bags on the market. Also the price points of those old canvas bags were low, so they're revamping old models, incorporate more leather into them and put on a new higher price tag. They definitely want to push customers to buy more leathers and increase the value of the brand. I mean no brand wants to be an introductory brand. Louis Vuitton want to be elite and don't want their bags to saturate the market because they are affordable.

I think LV wants it all. They want to be the brand of introduction to luxury. They want to be the brand for the super wealthy and offer something special. If Hermes is about loyalty (or that is what we want to believe), LV is about getting us hooked on luxury and become costumers from early age.

I don’t think LV phasing out canvas. they sure are making them more expensive!

I am not keen to buy leather bags. Just some caught my eye though.
I have 3 leather and I justified it to myself because 2 were LE and one Mahina, which I thought was beautiful. It’s not my preference though.

I have Carmel in Cream, the Wild at heart NF in cream empriente with the pink in the handles, and the Cream and black NF Embroideries. I was debating Maida for a year and decided not to get it. That would be the only one I’d get if I got another but I hate black and am nervous about Turtledove.

The rumor is that "a lot" find canvas cheap because it's not full Leather like Hermes (not True for me though because i don't like carrying heavy leather bags and also i don't like that too much animal skin is wasted in a full leather bag)
