I also majorly downsized and feel so much relief. I didn’t do a final count but sold probably 8-10 Chanel bags, a few Valentino, ysl, fendi, and louis Vuitton. Some were hard to sell because they were very rare and I won’t ever be able to repurchase but it came down to usage. Why keep bags that sit or get used 1x a year or never in my case. I had about 30 plus. I happily sold all of these and have added a few Hermes bags that i never dreamed of owning, a few Chanel and a few special Valentino, fendi and bottega. I haven’t counted but I think it’s around 10-11. No regrets and I feel a lot less guilt. Very freeing!

Did you sell your Valentinos on one of the major resale sites? I am looking to sell one that is brand new with tags, Rockstud Saddle Bag, and I'm trying to figure out which sites are the best for Valentino in particular. Thanks in advance!!

Fashionphile and Yoogis closet are both great! The only 2 sites I personally sell to. However quotes are quite low at the moment do I would probably brace yourself for a lowball offer

Good thread. I’m not on TPF nearly as much as I used to be and think downsizing is a function of maturity. I make more money and am more financially secure than I was when I would spend $3 or $4K on a handbag a decade ago, but that strikes me as insane now. There are so many better uses for my money. Buying a bag is among the worst uses, and frankly, I feel some shame about the collection I amassed. Why didn’t I spend the money on better things? Learning, charitable giving, investing, health etc.? And in the future, I don’t want to look back and remember spending a chunk of my life on buying and selling handbags. Spending less time on TPF is a good start.

I consider handbags to be one of my vices. There’s no virtue here, and I don’t pretend there is.

I’ve never watched an influencer and can’t imagine doing so, but do keep an eye out for things I love and that work for me. Sparkly mini bags that can’t fit my reading glasses? No. Sophisticated totes I will carry multiple times a week? Yes. I never shop in brick and mortar stores because I find the prices to be high and the selections to be poor. I do my research online and only buy from sites that offer good prices and convenient and reasonably priced returns.

Perhaps someday I’ll move away from bags completely. I would regard that as personal development.

Bumping this, wondering how 2023 ended up for folks and if there are any additional/modified goals for 2024?

My bag count has dropped significantly, am just a bit indecisive on a couple of items in the mental "out" bucket.
I ended up selling four designer bags last year (1 LV and 3 Chanel) and have it whittled down to:

- 2 Hermes (B30, K28)
- 4 Chanel (M/L Classic Flap, Mini Reissue, Mini Rectangular x 2)
- 1 Celine (Triomphe Classique)
- 1 Valextra (Iside Mini)

In the contemporary designer space, I have:

- 1 Polene (Numero Sept)
- 3 Longchamp (Le Pliage Cuir Croc XS, Le Pliage Neo XS and Le Pliage City XS)
- 1 Oroton (Lilly Zip Top Crossbody)
- 1 Uniqlo (Round Mini Shoulder Bag)
- 1 Misc

There might be further adjustments in both areas, particularly in the contemporary designer space as the Uniqlo bag has the potential to replace one or two of the Longchamp bags I'm considering letting go of (Le Pliage Neo XS and/or Le Pliage City XS).
