So as half of us are waking in 2011 and the New Year, while the other half of us are putting on our last minute preparations for those New Year's Eve celebrations, looking through the closet and selecting the perfect bag to carry for the occasion, it's time to look back at 2010, MJ style!

The year started out relatively quiet without anything truly new and exciting. We saw a few new styles added to the Paradise collection, which really seemed to hit it's stride during the spring and summer months. The Rio has proven to be a popular choice, but those who prefer soft, slouchy shoulder bags there were plenty of styles to choose from - the Kate, Evelyn and later the Leigh.

The python embossed styles were still relatively popular altho most were created minus the stardust studs that proved so popular in 2009. There were a few "sleepers" from Spring/Summer that seemed to take a while to find their stride - the Firebird collection and the Aztec line weren't nearly as popular as I had imagined them to be, altho they seemed to gain more attention once some of these bags were marked down, while there were a few "misses" with the Dancer, Parachute and Boho lines (which STILL sit on store shelves unsold at second/third markdown!). Overall, MJ seemed to be lying low during S/S and when we got a preview of F/W we saw why!!

MJ F/W always seems to be full of surprises and 2010 was no exception! We saw the introduction of the Lacquered Leather bags, which proved to be extremely popular! Taking the tradition of MJ's quilted leather and enhancing it with an added layer of protection and shine was sheer genius, but it was the leather woven chains that really seemed to be a hit with most MJ fans. The Westside was introduced, which altho a relatively "simple" design, proved to be a "Hit" and capitalizing on the popularity of the ever-so-simple and basic "Single" series, the XL Single was welcomed with open arms.

Undoubtedly, the popularity of MAD MEN and anything "Retro" turned the refined and lady-like Garbo collection into a MAJOR hit. With it's textured leather in gorgeous colors, bags like the Greta, Garbo, Ava and Camille made the most of it's basic lines and MJ's amazing eye for detail.

MJ was big on exotics this year and we saw bags made from almost every type animal skin available - calfskin, lambskin, buffalo, ostrich, python, croc, beaver, mink - we saw it all with the introduction of the Gene, Veronica, Absinthe, and yes, even the Gilda and Ash!

We saw the Large Zip Wallet surpass the classic Zip Clutch as most people's wallet of choice. Stams in various types of leather - classic quilted, lacquered, polished, patent and python embossed, with added details such as tassels, leather ties and once again - the leather woven chains!

Overall, MJ's had a stellar year during 2010. What were some of your favs? Your hits and misses? Which bag are you secretly earning for and hope to still acquire? Anything you couldn't wait to get your hands on, only to discover that it wasn't quite what you had expected it to be? Share your thoughts about 2010

Hope you all have a wonderful, safe and happy new year -- I for one, can't wait to see what surprises MJ brings to 2011!!
;)

After that wonderful introduction, I can't add much that would be insightful. You've said it all, iluv.

I guess my "miss" would be the Small Camille. Although a truly lovely shape and design, I found the leather to be somewhat awkward.

Another "miss" for me was the Karlie. It is so beautiful, yet I found it difficult to carry. It slips off of my shoulder.

(Marc, please make the Karlie with the skinnier leather strips on the chain, like the regular Stams have. The wide lacquered straps are too slick.)

My surprise "hit" is the Lana, obviously, since I went nuts over it. It is the coolest retro bag. I paid no attention to it for quite a while. Once I saw it, I was smitten. Fabulous texture and design.

I am looking forward to 2011 and contemplating my next purchase. It will probably be a Stam in pale lavender, although there are so many beautiful choices ...

Happy New Year, my friends.

Excellent topic, JJ!

The majority of the bags recently released didn't "speak" to me, but I am head-over-heels in love with the Gene (the non-exotic version, of course). I would LOVE to purchase one someday, but the prices from the Garbo line sure are steep!

couldn't agree with you more. im looking at these all fondly from afar and admiring the reveals we get on the garbo bags. but they're too rich for my blood.

i did get a lacquered LZW and i have to say I really love the colors MJ came out with later in the year. starting with the green resort paradise bags, and then going into the most lovely edgy shade of yellow I have ever been obsessed with....i did get a LZW in lacquered yellow this year and love it to death! If i ever see a eugenie on sale somewhere in this color-way, it's mine! i love the neutral palette MJ did for fall. it's seriously the very best I've seen him since fall of 2005.

im excited to see the spring bags roll in, and of course I cant wait to see the fall 2011 stuff!

i personally had one hell of a collection cleansing this year...and I think I'm starting 2011 out just right...as I'm always fond of seeking out past season bags I fell in love with.

Out with the old, in with the new....whatever it is, Mj has something for everyone. I cant wait to see what 2011 brings for all of us here on the boards. I love seeing everyone's collections evolve!

^ I had one hell of a cleansing this year, too, june! My collection is much smaller, but I'm using every one of my bags, which is very important to me. I can't wait to see what MJ comes out with in 2011!

2010 has been a major slow year for me, I only got the black Beat bag, which I love tho, I made a great choice there, I wear it all the time :)

hopefully there will be more MJ for me next year

EDIT: the Beat bag is already from 2009 ... talk about being slow :)
So I only got a MBMJ Miss Marc Pirate bag ...
I did enjoy all the lovely reveals girls ... may 2011 be a year with LOADS of reveals

i have to say my fave is the stardust and python embossed in black. I bought one, sold it, now bought it again after i realised how much i miss it!
I really love the laquered leather and the interwoven chain as well, but i didn't purchase any. I think the XL Single is the mj equivalent to the chanel jumbo. Im guessing the XL single would be easier to use, and one would be less paranoid using it compared to the $3+k jumbo.. :p
Mj's '10 winter line is gorgeous, but not for me.
A lot of the lastest mbmj bags just don't do it for me, but the i do like classic hillier in the newly released colours.

Nas, I SO Agree! I received the Karlie for Christmas - it is beautiful, but the straps keep falling of my shoulders.

I also received the pink lacquered baby stam. Its so beautiful with the interwoven chain strap, but the shoulder strap keeps slipping off. I want to keep it, but it is annoying trying to keep it on my shoulder.

great summation, jj!

2010 was an incredible year. not only did it bring me the absinthe, which i'm absolutely in love with, but i got to meet the man himself. most importantly, i got to do it with really fantastic friends.

it started off a bit slow with s/s. i did end up with the pendant nina and beige rio. the latter i was using almost everyday in the summer until my mother swiped it. she's a swiper, that one.

however, f/w won my heart and emptied my wallet. between the alyona, the lacquered quilting bordeaux westside, the gilda, the greta, and of course, the bag i'd give up all other bags for, the absinthe. i was one happy girl hopelessly devoted to mj. my sole disappointment for the year was the lana. it just didn't work out as i'd hoped, but par for the course.

the year ended blissfully with the addition of the blush standard (something has to replace that rio), and the black viva, which has already gone into my heavy rotation group. i still have to do reveals for those two. jun's already given up on me.

s/s 11 is looking iffy for me, but i'm sure i won't be able to resist and i'll have even more fun discussing, dissecting, and debating every detail with everyone here. to another fantastic year! :drinks:

Great post, ILMB!

2010 wasn't MJ's best year to me--I loved the Gene, which I was lucky enough to purchase at the Saks sale (and which I'll try to post a reveal of since I haven't seen one on here) but it was really the only bag this year that I had to have (well, I'd love the Absinthe...sigh). I spent most of the year scooping up the bags I really wanted from '09 (the best year's designs ever to me) but had fun seeing all the reveals of everyone's different bags here.

Thanks to many of you, I realized what would work for me and what wouldn't...and I can't wait to see more in 2011!

it seems like a lot of us parred down our collections this year! I know I rid my closet of a lot of bags I thought I'd have forever, but there were just too many beauties that were under-used and appreciated!! I still have bags that haven't seen the light of day in a long while, but at least with a smaller collection, there's a better chance that they'll be pulled out and used!!
