I bought through Vestiaire collective who authenticates - do I need to do additional authentication? Similar to watches(a hobby I know well) there appear to be many really good fakes and I'd like to smile at the thoughts of a "forever" piece when we are old so I would like assurances.

Since you already brought it you will need to pay Bababebi for authentication but its very reasonable-do a google search for her website.
She will then tell you what photos she needs to give a watertight authentication.
Its a wonderful bag In a beautiful leather and such a lovely gesture your post has been heartwarming in these troubled times.
My only concern is that if she normally wears neutral bags whether she will use this and love it as much as a true Neutral like Gold or even black.
I say this because I own 2 beautiful Celine bags in a gorgeous deep red-love the bags love the colour but even though the red works with everything I actually rarely reach for them.
When I brought my first 'nearly new' Hermes Bag I actually chose Gold (the only light coloured bag I own ) because it goes with everything-my second H purchase was black.
I'm not putting a damper on it but I really want her to love and wear the bag for years to come.

You absolutely have to have it authenticated. It'll be the best money you will spend and it will give you peace of mind. To me and I'm probably less trained than you are, there are a couple things that need to be looked into with regards to authentic aging or fakery. Specifically I would look at the hardware and the position of the hardware on the sangles and the bottom of the purse on the one side whether the leather appears bunched. My husband says I am a professional fault finder and I'm hoping that's a compliment .

I wish I could start a new topic but I don't have the posts or time. I ordered this for my wife for Christmas - will be our first Christmas this year and wanted it to be special. We're actually not in the income bracket to just go out and buy these things but I sold a watch that doesn't get worn much. Once it arrives, I have 2 days to send it back.... I wanted a softer leather for my wife's only Hermes bag(I got her a scarf earlier in the year and she went nuts[good nuts]). Most of her purses are conservative colors. Anyway, sent payment and now just waiting.... I believe I bought for about retail price after fees were net out. Thoughts on entry Hermes purse?

I'm like you a watch and car person, and I'm like your wife and collect mostly neutral handbag colors ... black, black, black LOL, gold, etoupe ... but I have started to collect h fun and beautiful colors. It's opened my eyes. That's what h is known for the pops of colors! Their reds are gorgeous !!! Does red have meaning for your wife? Some use red for celebratory occasions. In summary ... h is known for their colors, reds have celebratory reasons for some and you are celebrating your first Christmas together and it's also a Dec color in IMHO.
