1st H Bag - B30!

I own several H bags bought directly from H store but to be honest, I am tired with infinite waiting, being rejected in other stores (unfortunately madam the wishlist is currently closed etc.), uncertainty (the past doesn't predict the future, the fact that people got bags without substantial pre-spend might not hold since the demand is very high) and I will be buying one more bag way over the retail- for my sanity. There was an influx (at least in my location) of very wealthy people who buy RTW and very expensive items, so it's not going to be a few scarves and twillies to get the bag reasonably fast.
So as long as you didn't dent your finances to get this bag, I'd make peace with the price - as the previous poster said, you saved yourself a lot of hassle and time + you got EXACT bag you wanted. Time is worth a lot.
Your bag is gorgeous btw.

I think I remember your other post about this bag. The corner wear seemed minimal and is something H Spa can easily touch up. I got 2 pre-loved Birkins with much worse corner wear and was astonished by the results after Spa. It's included in their standard cleaning+conditioning+painting, which should be around 270eur or 3xx $ now (there is a thread on spa prices). So IMO yours is a good deal if you aren't going to buy other H items.

The only way to go below retail in the resale market now is getting visibly worn bags (like I did), in the sense of very floppy, with at least light scratches and/or vintage.

Hi,
I recently purchased my first B30 in Togo preowned from Fashionphile. I swore I would never cross over from Chanel (I have a huge collection) to H & yet here I am. I know I overpaid ($14,072 with tax & overnight shipping) from retail. It's from 2015 (color Plomb which is now discontinued) with some corner wear, marks/scuffs & scratches on HD. I'm struggling a bit for several reasons.. one being am I really ready to pay this much for a handbag when I have so many others to use; I lead a very casual lifestyle (stay at home mom) so will I have enough occasions to use it? (I'd be hesitant to bring it to my tennis classes LOL); & was it a bad price considering it has wear? The reality is that I don't want to play the H game & just end up purchasing things I don't really want or need. I'm not into scarves, twillies etc; I just want a B LOL but that being said, am I settling for this vs being patient? However, I def don't want to pay more than what I paid & I know the resale market is so high. What if I ever want to resell it down the road; are discontinued colors hard to resell & would I have to bring it H spa before reselling? Sorry so many questions!! Do I just cut the tag off & start enjoying it?!! THANKS for any input

My first B (not my first H bag) was from Fashionphile and I paid a similar price…it is a B35 in turquoise Clemence and I LOVE it. Yes I paid over retail but I have spent WAY more than the difference between retail and resale for my second and third Bs. I love H silks and some RTW and shoes so it hasn’t been too painful to build up a profile at the store. ;) I think that if you’re not a fan of any other H items and all you want is a B or a K, then finding one on Fashionphile for a bit over retail is probably cheaper in the long run...at least that’s what DH often points out!

ETA: OP, you wondered about carrying a B given your lifestyle…I work for a non-profit org and thus rarely wear much more than jeans, a sweater, and sneakers…a B is simply a glorified tote. Nothing fancy!
I think it’s a gorgeous bag! I love the veining, and it looks very nice from your pic. Right now at least in the US most H B/K are over retail on reputable sites regardless of condition. But here you are with an Birkin with no game playing. And I agree with tinkerbell68 - the B is a tote, and my favorite casual bag. Jane Birkin is on YouTube showing how she tricks out her Birkin (i think I saw the post here on tpf somewhere) with stickers and key rings etc, making it very casual. She told the interviewer yes her B’s are complementary, but she only has one at a time and truly makes them her own. I loved how she lives in her Birkins.

If I were you I would consider keeping it, it’s a nice entry into the world of H. The prices are high, no doubt, but H bags are gorgeous and with care last forever. Chanel prices are veering into H territory, but I personally don’t think their new bag quality is worth it these days for me, and from threads here it sounds like they are playing games with who can buy a bag. Yikes, CHANEL and LV are now trying to be Hermes, and it just isn’t the same, at least not for me.

And I would carry a B to a tennis lesson! :P For the millions of people not on tpf, we forget not everyone is scrutinizing our bags or cares about bags the same way we do. Finally, given that our bags function the same way as a bag from Target, :justifying: them is a stretch. For those of us here that love H bags, simply wanting a certain bag within our means is justification enough! For each one of us, whether we have to save for years, or could buy 5 Birkins at a time, our personal reasons are enough. I don’t use cost per wear as a metric, otherwise it might bother me. I think more in terms of how much I enjoy my bags, and how I feel when wearing them, and my bags are totally worth it in that way!! We each have our own internal metrics.

Good luck with your decision! Let us know.

Congratulations on your beautiful Birkin  If this is exactly the colour and specs you always wanted then yes, definitely keep it.
I went the other route and had to pre spend $20K to be offered one, and I paid $14,350 CDN, so I personally don't think you overpaid.
Good luck deciding:heart:
Thx Truth be told; I had never even heard of or seen this color (which is basically black LOL) when it popped up on FP but I thought the price was decent for fashionphile standards LOL & I did want PHW since it seems more casual to fit my lifestyle. I do have so many black Chanel bags so I'm not sure my 1st choice would've been black.. I'd love Etain, etoupe or gold but I don't think I'd find those colors for this price!? & Black is always safe.. I do like that it's not a regular black; slightly lighter or faded black which is different...wow good to know thx!!

During Covid SIP, on Fashionphile, there were etoupe Bs, in varying condition, for between 12-16K USD, and your plomb B outshines all of them :D

For what it's worth, personally I think it's an absolutely gorgeous bag. The perfect size and colour for daily use and I love the veining!
I use my B30 for absolutely anything.. grocery shopping, trip to the post office, out for lunch, day at the shops.. you name it!
These bags are built to last and mine is far older than yours.
Unlike Chanel I think, if you need a repair generally Hermes will do it, no matter the age of the bag or if you are the first owner.
This is far more robust than a classic flap and can last a lifetime. Use it whenever you like and enjoy it, it's beautiful!! The fact that it has some wear means you can use it without worry of causing that first ding. Oh and the sticker shock wears off quite quickly once you start using it.
