Hi,
I recently purchased my first B30 in Togo preowned from Fashionphile. I swore I would never cross over from Chanel (I have a huge collection) to H & yet here I am. I know I overpaid ($14,072 with tax & overnight shipping) from retail. It's from 2015 (color Plomb which is now discontinued) with some corner wear, marks/scuffs & scratches on HD. I'm struggling a bit for several reasons.. one being am I really ready to pay this much for a handbag when I have so many others to use; I lead a very casual lifestyle (stay at home mom) so will I have enough occasions to use it? (I'd be hesitant to bring it to my tennis classes LOL); & was it a bad price considering it has wear? The reality is that I don't want to play the H game & just end up purchasing things I don't really want or need. I'm not into scarves, twillies etc; I just want a B LOL but that being said, am I settling for this vs being patient? However, I def don't want to pay more than what I paid & I know the resale market is so high. What if I ever want to resell it down the road; are discontinued colors hard to resell & would I have to bring it H spa before reselling? Sorry so many questions!! Do I just cut the tag off & start enjoying it?!! THANKS for any input :-)

I generally don’t pay over retail, but for what it’s worth, this is a gorgeous bag. Love the veining. I get my value out of a B with cost per wear.

Yay thx! Yup I really didn’t want to pay over retail either but I have yet to find one at retail sadly. Yeah so I’d have to use it a lot

I'm sure the only way I'll ever get a B or K is to buy resale, so I'm often perusing FP's offerings. That looks like a beautiful bag and sounds like a good price from what I've seen there. Can I ask what condition they categorized it as? I bought an Evelyne TPM from them pre-COVID that was described as excellent, and it looked brand new. I didn't keep it because it was a bit too small for my liking. I should have though, considering how the prices have gone up in the past few years.

Thx! They categorized it as very good & I agree. It’s def not excellent with the corner wear etc but i guess if it was excellent, it would prob be higher price yep the prices keep increasing ugh

Ah, now I see the piping. Yes, I see: original Birkin, not Sellier.

This year’s USD price in Togo is $11,200. Not sure where you’re located, but include sales tax and it would likely be over $12k from
an Hermès boutique. A price increase is imminent, after which your investment will be close to retail.

Since you’re not interested in pieces from other Hermès universes, $2k is way less than you’d spend going the traditional boutique route. Another factor is that rested Hermès colors are often worth more to many buyers and harder to get because the color is no longer available in the current season’s collection.

As long as she’s in good shape, I’d suggest you remove the tag and as soon as you get a bag insert to protect the interior leather and make a tote style piece easier to organize, go ahead and transfer your everyday carry items and start wearing her. I’d suggest using a shaper pillow when you're not wearing her to help keep her original design lines.

Plomb is a nice neutral. Wear her often and in good health!

It is a really pretty bag. I love the veining. If you decide to sell you could get it cleaned up at the spa. Colours that are discontinued often return. Plomb is a gorgeous colour. I have a plomb bag. It is a soft black.

Reality is for you to buy a bag from the store you will likely have to spend a lot more than what you paid so you did the right thing by going the preloved route, if you don’t like the other goods.

I would cut the tag, forget about what I spent and focus on enjoying the bag.

I'm no expert but I think you got a nice deal. I look at new and giftable, which are quite pricey. Maybe I'll have to broaden my search.

My first B (not my first H bag) was from Fashionphile and I paid a similar price…it is a B35 in turquoise Clemence and I LOVE it. Yes I paid over retail but I have spent WAY more than the difference between retail and resale for my second and third Bs. I love H silks and some RTW and shoes so it hasn’t been too painful to build up a profile at the store. ;) I think that if you’re not a fan of any other H items and all you want is a B or a K, then finding one on Fashionphile for a bit over retail is probably cheaper in the long run...at least that’s what DH often points out!

ETA: OP, you wondered about carrying a B given your lifestyle…I work for a non-profit org and thus rarely wear much more than jeans, a sweater, and sneakers…a B is simply a glorified tote. Nothing fancy!
