Hi! I just purchased my first Chanel handbag yesterday and was super excited. I got a Chanel 19 in iridescent calfskin but I’m having slight buyers remorse. I’m definitely not in a position to buy Chanel on a regular basis therefore I wanted to buy a bag that I would be able to use often and while I LOVE iridescent I THINK that I should go more with black because that’s what I mainly wear and it would match with more things. On the other hand, I love the way the iridescent pops and I don’t see iridescent as often as I see black. Any advice/opinions?

Black would definitely be more versatile and timeless I believe. I think if you are already having second thoughts now , it might mean you do not love the bag as much. At these price points, i would only buy what I really love unless of course I can afford to buy a bag in same style in different colors.

That 19 is stunning! I know black goes with more but I feel like this color could go with a lot as well! I’m someone who doesn’t tend to go for a lot of black bags because I find them boring…but amusingly my 19 is in the black with the reverse hardware. I think if you love this then keep it.

I think the biggest consideration is whether you're planning on adding another 19 down the road. If you're only planning on one 19 and don't have a black Chanel bag then you may want to reconsider. If you're planning on purchasing another 19, I'd recommend keeping the iridescent bag. Think the standard black with gold CC is either Rev or available every season, and there are often variations on black, such as the 22P grommets or 22C reverse hardware. Chanel has recently starting repeating colors but in general if I fall in love with a seasonal color I will prioritize that purchase over REV or a bag that is easier to get.

The other important factor is how the purple will work with your wardrobe. When I'm on the fence on a seasonal color, I try to think through what I'll wear that bag with, and what bag I would use if I didn't buy this bag. that often helps me when I have instant love with a Chanel bag.

I actually bought this same purple iridescent yesterday when I saw in the boutique!!! I had a difficult time gauging the color and was planning on passing until I saw the bag in person - as I was concerned it would be too close my metallic silver 19, but was pleasantly surprised that the purple read more in-person! It's truly a gorgeous color of purple and looks like it'll be easy to incorporate! I'm a huge fan of 19s, they make great everyday bags and have significant versality!!! Good luck with your decision.

Congrats to you on your first Chanel bag. The 19 is a dream to wear. Handheld, crossbody and shoulder carry. Super functional. The purple is very pretty. I would keep it only if you are thinking you will purchase a black Chanel bag at some point. If you’re going to have one bag….black is my vote. ❤️❤️

I would agree with what many said above. I'm in a similar boat as I also cannot afford to be buying multiple designer bags. The 19 is a GREAT bag especially if it's going to be your only Chanel. It is versatile and functional while keeping that trademark Chanel look. I have a classic flap and only wear it out for dinners because i find it fits NOTHING!!! But anyway back to the point - I would lean towards buying black and personally would only start splurging on the brighter colors when I had a "base" of neutrals. I can see why are you torn - the purple is verrrry nice!!! Let us know what you decide.

I took the bag into my closet as @sheeby suggested and decided it didn’t go with enough items to justify the purchase seeing as MOST LIKELY this would be my only Chanel bag, if not forever, than for at least a LONG TIME (unless I win the lottery ). This was the same problem I had with the classic flap, which was going to originally be my first Chanel purchase. I tried it on in the boutique and decided it wasn’t me at all! I’m way too casual most of the time to wear it enough. The Chanel 19 is perfect for me at the moment. It’s still trademark Chanel but can be worn more casually for me than the classic flap.

Sorry to hear that you ended up returning the iridescent 19, I bought the same one a couple of weeks ago and absolutely love it. I have a pretty eclectic wardrobe AND a bit preppy AND I also wear a lot of black so for me, it actually goes with everything! I took mine out for the first time last night for date night and here's my outfit! I didn't buy this with the intention of it being an everyday bag as I already have an everyday Chanel, but I also feel guilty about babying them and not letting them have their day in the sun, as I buy these bags to enjoy rather than preserve and sell later. So I actually try and rotate and wear my iridescents!

I actually looked at a bag like yours this weekend and it was between that and the beige with hints of pink iridescent C-19.
Although I need another bag like I need a hole in the head; I bought the later - the leather was so yummy and the colors of these iridescent bags are magical!

Hi TT! What a gorgeous bag! Totally agree the iridescent bags are so dreamy! I actually considered the pink/yellow but got the 21K pink iridescent. It sometimes looks pink and other times very beigey-peach…I think I’ve convinced myself it was like buying two different bags lol! Not to sway to much from the topic but here’s my classic mini.

My 22P purple iridescent is stunning, I can’t wait to use it!!!

Do you have any other 19s? I’m a huge fan of the 19, so versatile & easy to wear! You’ll love it! Can’t wait to see you styling photos, esp with any of your stunning new RTW!
