So I have tried to use cornstarch and heat to clean the darkened handles on my cities. I did not mix the cornstarch with any liquid soap. Instead, I shine a desk lamp over the handles to warm them up, and covered them entirely with dry cornstarch. I left them alone for couple hours with light rubbing intermittently, then I dusted off the cornstarch to see if there is any difference. I noticed certain areas still have cornstarch stuck on it, while others are completely clean. Here is what it looks like:
I suppose if I repeat this a few more times until cornstarch do not stick anymore, that means the oil in the handles have been removed. When I'm done I'll try to post a close up picture again.
