First Dooney.com purchase reveal

Made my first Dooney.com purchase on 15Jun23 and it arrived today Sun 18Jun23. I received free shipping and it came soooooo dang fast. I ordered a large Dooney & Bourke Florentine zip pod backpack in the color navy. Was on sale for $199, but I had a $20 off coupon, taking it to $179. A really good deal for this beautiful new backpack. Just opening the box, the smell was delicious. The navy Florentine is absolutely beautiful. It’s not heavy and it fits my iPad 11 pro. I am very pleased with my purchase

Help: disappointed in basket - how to WEAR?

Girls, I need your help

After blind-ordering the ibiza tote basket that I have been drooling over for a long time, I am unsure about how to actually WEAR IT.

is handheld or Arm the only option?!
Due to it being so structured and not soft, I don’t see how one is supposed to wear it on the shoulder - you wouldn’t be able to put your arm down!

I am feeling very underwhelmed with the bag and am so sad about it it’s smaller than I thought but that’s not the issue.

Has anyone attached a (non-branded) additional leather strap to make this tote crossbody?!

How do YOU wear the tote bag - teach me!

I am considering retuning it and getting the drawstring bucket bag instead which from measurements could be like a small small basket. BUT this one can’t be handheld unless you wrap the long strap around your hand.
I did get a good deal on the basket tote though so… I am really torn.

Thoughts, ideas, tips: feel free!

Tabby 26 Refreshed

After selling my chalk tabby 26, I had immediate seller’s remorse but now that I see the refreshed version, I’m thinking it might make me fall back in love with this bag. I sold mine because it just felt like a lot of space was wasted in the design and not that comfortable to use with tight fitting compartments. I also used it to fund a luxury purchase but I missed it because it’s so pretty but now I’d like to know how others are enjoying the refreshed design. Please share! :)

S.O.S - Christian Louboutin handbag

HELP, seriously...
I have this beautiful Louboutin handbag and it got many marks which cant get unregonized!

The bag is made of "jelly", so not leather and I was wondering if any of u has ever dyed a bag? I absolutely cant find someone in Germany or EU who could do this for me...

I already contacted the CL Service in Paris but they couldnt help me.
They told me, that there was a chemical reaction with the glue and sun. The marks are under the "jelly" material so it cant but cleaned.

Do you have ANY ideas?? I dont want to throw it away ☹️ Plus, the "jelly" slowly turns into yellow.

The marks look really bad IRL.

Resale purchasing opinions?

Hi -- what are people's thoughts on the bags that seem like the deal is too good to be true on sites that I *think* are reputable, like TheRealReal, Fashionphile, etc? For instance, when you see one classic flap in a classic color in seemingly very good condition for a fraction of the price of all of the other similar bags listed? I never totally know what to make of that and would love to hear everyone's thoughts/opinions/experiences?

Thanks!

Am I going to get a QB offer?

Hello all,

I know every boutique is different... but would like opinions!

My home boutique in the US is quite small. I started frequenting this boutique summer 2022. I have somewhere around at 2:1 to maybe even 2.5:1 pre-spend after our last visit a week ago. Our big purchase last week was an H08 for my husband for his birthday (the graphene one). We have a pretty good relationship with my SA. After I bought a watch for myself in December, when I returned in January my SA saved a Constance to go Wallet in Noir with ghw. Of course I purchased it! I have bought now 2 watches (one womens and one mens), fashion jewelry, silk scarves, twillys, and cashmere scarves (for myself and for gifts), mens and womens shoes, home goods including 2 ceramic trays and a Ulysse notbook cover (and insert), a Bride a Brac, and lip balm.

When my SA was boxing up our purchases, I joked to my husband that he couldn't complain next month when we came back for my birthday. My SA turned around, asked what day my birthday was, put it in their phone, and then went over my QB wishlist off the top of their head, "Birkin 30 or 35 or a Kelly 28 or 32.... neutral color or darker color." Then my SA and another SA discussed the orange minimum for 2023 and they told me about a Birkin 25 that came into the store in Orange Minimum and how beautiful it was in person. My SA said a couple of times that "hopefully a bag comes in for my birthday."

Does this mean what I think it does?!?!!?!!? Do I finally have a shot at a QB bag!?!?!?

Matching diamond pairs for earrings

I am in the market for a new pair of diamond studs set in white gold/platinum, around 2-2.40 carat total.

I have been looking at the likes of Whiteflash, James Allen and Brian Gavin and notice that every pair of ‘matched’ studs listed varies in terms of carat weight and often clarity, colour etc too. Those don’t bother me but the size does as I don’t want one stud to be noticeably bigger than the other - and there is the ‘mind clean’ aspect too.

My existing 1.62 ttcw diamond studs (which I love and will be keeping) were bought from Blue Nile and are both exactly the same size, 0.81 each.

Are there any other vendors I should consider? Am I being unreasonable to want two stones that are identical in size?

Christina Zeller and Damian O’Sullivan launch new brand

Christina Zeller, former Creative Director of Delvaux, and Damian O’Sullivan, experienced designer for many fashion houses such as Delvaux, Hermès and Louis Vuitton, have jointly launched a new handbag brand named Damiaan. Based in Belgium, with production in France and Italy, the brand has two models, the Snakebag and the Bootbag, with a pochette scheduled for release later this year. So far the bags are available only online.

You can see them on Instagram or on their website https://www.damiaan.co

This week I spent a very pleasant morning in a leafy Paris garden with Christina and Damian over a cup of tea and pastries, discussing handbags, design, travel, and life in general. The designers are targeting a certain type of client who is self-assured enough to carry a bag that speaks to his/her personal aesthetic, rather than a mass-market luxury brand.

The two models have a surrealistic, whimsical touch, typical of Belgian design. I was privileged enough to purchase the Snakebag in person, size small, in light navy blue with pearly gray 3-D “snake” handles. The bag, made of top-quality calfskin, has double zip pulls, is lined in cotton fabric with an interior slip pocket and key ring, and a detachable, adjustable strap to be worn cross-body or on the shoulder. It comes in 5 colour combinations, and 2 sizes. The Bootbag is a tote, available in 5 colour-ways and 2 sizes, with a trompe l’oeil boot seen in profile, a detachable, adjustable strap, and some interesting colour and texture combinations.

It was exciting to experience the launch of a new endeavour first-hand, and I wish much success to these two well-known designers for their Damiaan brand.

Custom order Lady Dior

Hi ladies! I wanted to share my joy and definitely the star of my bag collection!

About 6 months ago, I was invited to a special event at Dior and to meet Gaia Pace. They were offering a special order, where you can customize certain Dior bags in exotic skins with almost any embroidery design that you would like, and down to the charms and plaque inside. I was mostly interested in getting the croc lady Dior and being able to design the embroidery that will go around it. They did a quick mock-up of the bag for me, and I quickly fell in love, so I went ahead and placed the order! It was supposed to take about 12 months, but it’s here earlier than expected!

In the second picture is the sketch of the bag that Dior sent to me a month after I placed the order.

Dolce & Gabanna Miss Sicily Satchel (Scarf version)

This is possibly a really weird question.
I really adore the Miss Sicily bags in general, and I am attracted to this particular version, not because of the actual scarf details, but because there is no logo on the front flap of the bag.
If I got this bag, I would want to be able to remove the scarf from the top handle, but I'm not sure if this is possible. Is the scarf sewn or attached in such a way where removal would be impossible? Or can I remove it from this bag without causing damage?
Thank you.

Mini Anjou Pre-order Wait Times?

Hi everyone! I am looking to purchase a mini Anjou in sky blue, but it is currently OOS as my nearest boutique. The SA offered for me to pre-order the bag, but was not able to give me any estimate of when it would come. Does anyone have any recent experience with a pre-order and how long it took until you received the items?

Also, for pre-orders, is it just a deposit down? Thanks in advance! :)

Gucci Green Jumbo GG Tote, Or, Valentino One Stud Shoulder Bag?

Gucci Green Jumbo GG Tote, Or, Valentino One Stud Shoulder Bag? Please help me choose between these 2. Which is more interesting and stylish? Which one will still look cool and fashionable and still be in style several years from now? I like both of them, but need to choose only one. Which one is nicer from the “looks” and “fashion” point of view only,- without thinking about the “practical” part? Thank you, in advance, for your votes and opinions!.

Canvas folded corners

I wonder if anyone could give me their thoughts or if you have had the same bag any feedback.
I have just received the carryall mm in canvas. I have wanted this bag for a while and chose it over the leather version even though I prefer the zip on those. I just love the casual vibe of the bag and it will make a great travel bag too.
I have seen a YouTube video from an ex LV CA and she said she would never buy a bag in canvas from them especially with folded corners. This is exactly what this bag has. I have checked all my other canvas LV’s and a lot of mine have piped edges. The only bag I probably have with folded corners is the Maida but that is in leather.
Please can anyone with the canvas carryall advise how the corners are looking. Also anyone with another Louis with such corners…..did you have issues. I do love the bag but just would rather send it back unused instead of having pain in the future.
thank you x

Hermès U.S.’ New President Diane Mahady on the Brand’s Love Affair With Retail

Hermès U.S.’ New President Diane Mahady on the Brand’s Love Affair With Retail

Hermès has been on a tear lately, opening or refreshing retail stores in several cities around the U.S. The biggest statement came last fall when the French luxury brand took the wraps off a seven-story, 45,000-square-foot luxury emporium on New York’s Madison Avenue.

While the newest addition in Aspen, Colorado, which opens on Friday, may not be the same size or scope, it is nonetheless a reflection of the company’s ability to blend into a community while remaining true to a heritage that dates to 1837.

The new store, Hermès’ 34th in the U.S. and second in the state of Colorado, features carpets reminiscent of moss, gray-blue Aspen stone floors, honey-colored local larch wood on the staircase and a bay window that offers a panoramic view of the neighboring mountains. It was designed by the Parisian architectural firm RDAI and features 16 métiers, or departments.

The ground floor features men’s and women’s silk collections, fashion accessories, perfumes and beauty along with the brand’s signature leather goods. The mezzanine, which is designed to look like a cabinet of curiosities, offers the equestrian collections, and the second floor houses shoes, men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, jewelry and watches.

The shop is filled with original artworks including a piece from Jean-Luc Favéro dedicated to piebald horses from the Émile Hermès collection that stands next to a photograph by Yann Stofer titled Horse in the Snow. There’s also a winter scene drawn by George Barbier in the 1920s and a special window designed by Mexican artist Raul de Lara.

Overseeing the opening of this store and the rest of Hermès’ retail plans in the U.S. is Diane Mahady, who took over on April 1 as president of the American division, succeeding longtime chief Robert Chavez, who moved into a new role as executive chairman.
The Hermes store in Aspen.

The Hermès store in Aspen.

Mahady has a rich résumé that includes merchandising roles at Coach, Louis Vuitton, Zegna and Saks Fifth Avenue. She joined Hermès two years ago as executive vice president, working closely with Chavez, whom she said continues to consult on real estate and other issues. “He’s an amazing colleague and really built the brand here,” she said in the first interview since her promotion. “So it’s great to have him as a resource.”

She said that although Aspen may be viewed as a winter destination, it has evolved into a year-round resort community. “Post-COVID-19, we have found that people have more flexibility in the way they live and we think Aspen will be a terrific market for us.”

It’s also indicative of Hermès’ willingness to try unconventional locations. That was evident when it opened a store last year in Austin, Texas — not in a luxury mall but on Congress Street, known for its lively music and restaurant scene.

“Austin’s been terrific for us,” Malady said. “We have a very loyal client base and we’re really a destination. What we look for in a store location is something where you can really express the brand in the right way. No two stores are the same. Sometimes we look for more trafficked environments, sometimes we look for something hyperlocal. Austin was a new market for us. But we feel we’re more integrated in the community being in that location.”

Hermès is also working on a location in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York, another spot filled with trendy, youth-oriented boutiques. Until the space is ready, the brand is operating in a temporary location, she said, that is intended to express that Hermès is “a super humble, fun brand,” she said. “Sometimes people have a different perception of the brand, so [it’s important] for us to be able to show that we’re warm and welcoming, and not so serious.”

Since she became president, Mahady said she’s been asked numerous times how she is going to make her mark on the business, a question she finds almost puzzling.

“Everyone asks what I’m going to change,” she said. “But this is not a brand that needs to be changed. It’s a very healthy business with a terrific familial culture and very high retention rates here in the U.S. We’ve had explosive growth in the last two years, so now it’s really about how we prepare the brand for the future and ensure we can continue to deliver the level of service that is fundamental to the brand.”

What is also fundamental to the brand is its retail stores. With the exception of a few categories such as fragrance, watches and some home products, Hermès no longer wholesales and sells directly to consumers through its fleet of more than 300 stores in 45 countries as well as online.

In the U.S., the company opened a store in Naples, Florida, in February, and is now focused on Aspen, a market Mahady said is “a natural market for us.” Next up will be a second store in the Los Angeles market in Topanga, where she said Hermès is “a little under-penetrated.” It is slated to open in July.

“The West Coast is very important to us, between Hawaii, Los Angeles, Las Vegas,” she said. “So to be able to serve as more clients in Los Angeles area with a second store made a lot of sense.” She said to “create some energy” around the opening, Hermès will host a special experiential event, the Wings of Hermès, that will be a mixture of poetry and cinema. It will be held in Santa Monica from July 15 to 23, just before the store opens.

Then the focus will turn to Chicago, which is getting a facelift. “It’s a great market for us. We’ve been there since 1990 and we’re in a temporary store right now because we’re expanding the store on Oak Street. We’re adding a third level, which allows us to have a VIP room with enhanced services.” That is expected to open at the end of October, she said, at which point Hermès will being its interactive exhibit, Hermès in the Making, to the city. That installation focuses on the artisans who create the brand’s products.

The final project of the year will be the store at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas, one of three in that city, that is being renovated and is expected to be completed in November.

“Each of our stores is very site specific,” she said. “So even though there are three stores in Vegas, they all have a very different personality, a different aesthetic, a different assortment.”

Looking ahead to next year, Mahady said Hermès will continue to invest in renovating some of its existing stores and opening others. A new unit is slated for Princeton, New Jersey, and the existing store in Atlanta is moving from Buckhead to the upscale Phipps Plaza.

Beyond that, Mahady said the company plans to add a couple of new stores in the U.S. annually, in combination with renovations. “We’re very deliberate in our rollout. It would need to be the right location in the right market.”

Turning to the U.S. flagship on Madison Avenue, she said sales have been “outperforming expectations” since the September opening. “We’re blessed to have a really diverse client base and there are a lot of great sales associates with loyal followings.” In addition, the design of the store, with comfortable seating areas throughout the interior and an outdoor garden, creates a “more residential feeling,” she contended. “Our clients like to spend the day with us. It’s an enjoyable experience, not transactional, and is really relationship building. We’re really happy with what we’ve been able to achieve here.”
Mahady said Hermès remains enamored with what can be achieved in physical locations.

“We love retail,” she said. “This is a sixth-generation brand and we control every aspect of the business. The average time we’ve worked with any of our suppliers is 20 years. People often talk about the scarcity of the brand, but it’s really because we’re maniacal about quality. That’s been our business model and will continue to be our business model. And in our own retail environment, we can most control it.”

So while the U.S. retail count is only about 10 percent of the global total, Mahady said there’s no rush to dramatically increase the number here.

“Part of the beauty of the brand is we’re selective in the distribution,” she said. “We don’t want to spread ourselves too thin. It’s still challenging for us to keep up from a production standpoint, so we want to ensure that the existing stores get the best experience possible without taking on too much.”

What would you buy? Help!

Hi all, I know this is not LV however this is where I feel most comfortable on purseforum and I trust you all so much! I mostly buy LV and am looking for a non LV bag that will stand the test of time, a bit of a classic. I don’t mind if it’s trendy now and not later as I’ll rock it tend or no trend! My main requirements are:
1. Can be worn crossbody
2. Won’t have to overly baby it and wear and tear is reasonable
3. Will probably be black but open to some colours that won’t show colour transfer
4. Could be a classic but not necessarily
5. Can fly under the radar a bit, it doesn’t have to be completely quiet luxury but a bit quieter

I have a shortlist but open to other ideas! Main ones are:
1. Bottega padded cassette (I know it’s trendy but I like it a lot, most concerned about wear near clasp)
2. Celine triomphe medium (most concerned about the leather being delicate!)
3. Chanel WOC in caviar and gold hardware (most concerned about it looking ridiculous on me as I’m tall and plus sized)

My max budget is €4000, I’d love any advice or ideas!

Seeking Pre-Loved Lindy 30 Advice

Hi Friends!

A quick question for those stopping by this thread. I've been in the market for a Lindy 30 now for a few months in a red shade (Rouge H had been my original preference), and after searching around for awhile I've seen this one pop up on the pre-loved market for what I think might be a good price? It would be my first Hermes purchase after predominately swimming in the Chanel pool, so I'm hoping you might be able to lend me your opinions, experience and advice.

The bag is a 30 in Rouge Casaque (not sure if its Togo or Clemence?), Palladium hardware and is listed for $6,900 AUD (so roughly $4,800 USD). It's from 2009 and listed in 'excellent' pre-loved condition, 9.1 out of 10. It comes with the original box and dustbag.

Considering the photos below, and taking into account the age of the bag, do you think I should snap her up or keep looking? The colour looks a little less vibrant than other Rouge Casaque's I've seen elsewhere online, or does the shade differ slightly over the year

Which Artsy to buy?

  • Pre-loved Empreinte Leather Black

    Votes: 10 52.6%
  • Brand New Monogram Canvas

    Votes: 9 47.4%

Hello fellow LV lovers! Will need your help voting on which Artsy to get. My “dream” bag was always the Artsy but for whatever reason I never got it and always ended up with other bags. Maybe because I was too worried about the comfort of the bag. I tend to buy bags and end up not liking it then end up selling them. The purpose of the bag is for everyday use for work. I don’t commute far and drive to work so weight is not an issue for me. So now that I’m ready to purchase the bag I can’t choose!

I’m not a BIG fan of the vachetta trim on the new canvas bags. I am eyeing on an excellent condition artsy in empreinte leather in noir on fashionphile. But I still can’t choose on which one to get! Would love everyone’s input.

Is the vachetta trim a deal breaker for anyone?

Would really love and appreciate everyone’s response!

Vintage Chanel Chain Belts

Hi everyone!
I recently have been obsessed with vintage Chanel chain belts .
I have my eye on one from the 26 collection (I think this is 1989-1990?), but I'm not sure how to identify vintage pieces. I had a look around online but there isn't a lot of information around on how to check if the vintage belt is authentic or not . From what I've found, most people tend to check if it has a small metal piece that has engravings of Chanel & it's collection number.
For those who own or collect vintage jewelry pieces or vintage Chanel belts, how do you go about checking whether it's a real piece or not? And, if you have a photo of one from the 26 collection, that would be great!
