I am trying to decide between three secondhand rings as a PhD graduation gift to myself. I currently have all three but can't reasonably keep everything so have to make some decisions! I'm in the return period for two of them but would have to resell the Paraiba if I decide against it. I could maybe swing keeping two but all three would be too much for me to spend right now.

Today I went to VCA, Cartier, Chanel, Neiman Marcus, and a local high end jeweler and didn't find anything else in the pricepoint that was more exciting to me than these (though I do now have the chalcedony vintage Alhambra bracelet on my wishlist -- so pretty! and I loved the Chanel Fil de Camelia ring too, but that's much much more expensive than these). I only own one small engraved rose gold signet ring so this would not be joining a large collection. I will have a pure desk job and work from home a lot, but I go to the ballet/opera/orchestra and am the age where everyone is getting married so dress up semi-regularly. From least to most expensive secondhand price, the three rings are:
  • Tiffany Victoria Vine in 18k rose gold -- I would take it into a Tiffany for resizing as an authenticity sanity check if I keep it (currently a 7, I would prefer 6.75)
  • Cecile Raley Designs Paraiba tourmaline -- this is a 0.86 carat stone in her 14k white gold Camellia setting
  • Robinson Designer Goldsmith rubellite tourmalines with ruby melee -- the tourmalines are 1.72 carats together, in 18k rose gold at the top with a platinum shank. This ring was designed and hand forged by David of David Michael Jewels years ago
Here is an album with several more photos and videos.

Thank you for any thoughts!

Laser hair removal, do you tip?

I decided to do do laser hair removal, I am doing my armpits, Brazilian, and full legs. I prepaid for 9 sessions and when they were checking checking me out the “register“ asked if I wanted to tip. I selected no because I was initially taken back by that especially considering the overall cost. I figured I could tip at each session if I decide to. I’ve never done anything cosmetic so maybe tipping is the norm and I just don’t know. I do tip on other cosmetic services like haircuts, nails, and facials. The place that I’m having it done at is a med spa and it will be done by an aesthetician if that makes a difference. If I do tip what do you guys recommend? 15-20%?

Do I push back on this price match or let it go?

022A1DE8-E9BC-430E-B620-C317C7F5846A.jpegI found the deal of the century. Selfridges had a $1,400 Saint Laurent WOC for $500. I decided to price match FWRD. I ordered one for myself that shipped yesterday. After I ordered one my sister asked me to get her one.

I get it honored again but in my hurry of checking out I didn’t notice it wasn’t the right bag until after. The one she honored was the large $1,700 size. I then get an email from the company a few hours later stating they can’t honor it because the items are different. I emailed them back and asked if they’d be willing to honor the price match on the correct item. I hear back today and she says only if the items currently in stock. It’s not but it was in stock on Selfridges when I ordered it.

Do I try to push back? It’s not my fault their representative matched the wrong bag. They’re also trying to pull the “it was out of stock at time of match” as well so they don’t have to honor the deal.

Downsizing Advice and What Should I Add?

IMG_0346.jpeg

My most used bag is an old Couch Court bag hiding in the back. My boyfriend bought it for me over a decade ago, but it doesn’t feel like “me” anymore.

My first luxury bag is the Speedy 30 that I bought from a vintage shop in Japan in 2016. I carried it to work because it fit my giant water bottle and everything I needed, but I started to really dislike the saggy shape when it wasn’t full.

Then I bought the Chanel small CF when I got my first promotion, and I hardly use it because it’s the most expensive thing I’ve ever bought that wasn’t a diamond. Trying to get over that because it’s so silly.

The BV Mini Loop I love, and got an airport in Italy on a whim before the price increases. I wish I had bought more bags that trip.

I want to get rid of the Céline Trio. The multiple pouches are inconvenient for me, but I find them really handy while traveling.

I bought the Marni Trunk to replace my Coach crossbody, but they’re so different. The clasp is fussy and although I love the look of the Marni, it isn’t as functional. I won’t get rid of her though.

The Loewe Flamencos are also staying. I just recently bought the small mini version and it looks like leather satin, I just think they’re so beautiful and nonchalant.

The big tote is an old Céline that I love and won’t get rid of either. The design is so cool, the straps are asymmetric and make the leather fold and billow under the arm in the most chic way. It fits my laptop so it’s a work bag for me, though I find I use it daily too.

The little green guy is a Loewe pouch that I adore but it scratches my hand getting in and out of the zipper. The monogram is embossed and looks like vintage tile or something, so neat.

On my wishlist is another structured crossbody or shoulder bag like the Gucci Horsebit 1955 or Prada Cleo, but would love suggestions on timeless luxury bags you love.

Thanks!

Maida Hobo or Carryall MM?

Hi all,

I am looking for a replacement for my Neverfull MM in empreinte turtledove. After all the drama with the yellowing, I am now considering trying something else. I absolutely love the neverfull, and the Carryall seems like a great alternative, but I wish it didn’t have the buckle straps. I have always loved the Maida hobo as well, but I worry about the pockets getting stretched out and saggy-looking. I love that the Maida has removable strap options. Does anyone have any insight or recommendations on what would be the best way to go?

Is this inevitable? (Canvas cracking at handle). Multicolor speedy

This is the third used MC speedy I have purchased and two of the three have had the same issue. I am on the hunt for one that doesn’t have this issue but I am not sure if it is inevitable and most will.

I also don’t know if it will get worse or if I enjoy it as it is.

Thoughts? I am referencing cracking directly under the stitching on the handle.

How are your Python bags wearing?

Hello! I recently purchased a Chanel Python bag. I’m familiar with exotics and have owned Python bags in the past but not Chanel specifically. Since this bag was rather pricey Vs some of my previous Python/snakeskin bags I’m curious how they are wearing over time? Obviously being an exotic one must be more careful, avoid rain, clothes that catch, etc… Since Chanel no longer produces exotics I was hoping to hear how they have worn over the years. And mods feel free to merge if you feel this is better suited on an older thread about exotics.

How to sell vintage Balenciaga Bags specifically 2001-2002 Flat Brass Firsts?

Has anyone run into the issue of making a sale for your vintage Flat Brass First only to have your bag deemed "unable to authenticate" and then returned to you? This has made it really difficult for sellers and buyers across the various re-sale sites. Note that this only happens if the sale is over $500 on some sites. If it's under $500 it doesn't have to go through authentication.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I thought this is something worthy of discussion for hardcore collectors of these rare and beautiful bags.

gold hardwear wear and tear

Wondered how long it took for peoples gold hardwear to start showing the silver underneath?
And what the wear and tear looks like on gold hardwear after 2-3 years of use. (Please state roughly how often you use the bag) any pics would be really appreciated

Also if anyone knows, how much would it cost for chanel to change hardwear after the warranty ends? thanks!

Vintage bottega hobo

Hi everyone! So I just purchased a vintage bottega large hobo on fashionphile for $1500. I have searched everywhere for a large size and all I could find was medium. So I was so excited when I seen only 1 on fashionphile I snatched it up!! Got it yesterday and it’s in pretty amazing condition. Do you guys think I over paid or does this seem like a fair price? Also anyone have one and tell me how you like it? I was going to get the Jodi in small size but decided to get this instead

RTT rose gold bead bracelet or David Yurman rose gold buckle bracelet?

Which bracelet do you prefer?

Hello everyone,

I am hoping to purchase a new bracelet in the near future and cannot decide between the Tiffany's RTT rose gold bead bracelet or the David Yurman buckle bracelet with pave diamonds. I currently wear 2 small rose gold loves and a thin rose gold JUC with diamonds. (I would post pictures, but my loves are currently being resized.)

I already own 2 silver bead bracelets from Tiffany's and love them, so I know I would get a lot of wear out of the rose gold one. My husband also prefers that one, as he says the buckle on the DY bracelet reminds him of a monkey lol. When I tried it on in store, I loved the look of it, but when looking back at pictures with my other bracelets, it seems to be a lot of the same colour, since almost everything is solid rose gold.

I've tried on the DY one as well, and also love how it looks. I like that it has diamonds, which breaks up the solid gold look. But it's definitely a fancier bracelet, so part of me wonders if I'll want to wear it all the time like my Cartier ones.

Please let me know which bracelet you think would be the better option. Tiffany's seems like the "safer" choice (and I do prefer Tiffany's in general) but I don't own any David Yurman and this is a beautiful piece to add to my collection. I also feel like the DY would be pretty to wear alone!
