do you feel that the disparity in quality is not noticeable?

Does the quality of your coat match the quality of your Hermes bag?

To all the Hermes bags owners who carry their bags regularly I have a question: Do you wear a coat or jacket that is similarly priced? (Idont mean exclusively Hermes RTW but similar quality.) This may sound weird but when I carry a Kelly I like to wear ‘good’ coats. In the summer I have lighter coats/jackets but they are still relatively high quality, tailored pieces.
Funnily enough this doesn’t extend to my shoes - I wear trainers a lot and they are usually around £100 or even less. I feel the same with inexpensive jeans. For example I feel that second hand jeans especially Levi’s look great with Hermes. This is because I feel you can get great jeans and trainers without spending much, but you cannot get good tailored clothes/good fabrics, without the price tag.
When it comes to coats and tailoring I do feel it needs to be roughly in the same league as the hermes bag. (No zara coats or fast fashion for me it just doesn’t look right-:eek:Ii t does not 'elevate' the outfit in my eyes and I can pretty much always tell the difference believe me.)
So the question is: would you spend as much (or near enough) on the coat as for thé bag? Or do you feel that the disparity in quality is not noticeable?

disclaimer: yes I do get my jeans tailored/adjusted;) Sometimes that costs more than the jeans, but I keep them for a long time.

hair relaxers - warning

From the NY Times

Good morning. Today, Linda Villarosa uncovers a health threat for many Black women. We’re also covering the G7, abortion and Jerry West. —David Leonhardt

Relaxer reckoning

By Linda Villarosa
Contributing magazine writer
A vast majority of Black women — approaching 90 percent — have used a chemical hair relaxer to straighten their natural curls. Some use it every other month, beginning in childhood.

But these products, applied in salons or at home, disrupt the endocrine system, according to a growing body of evidence. They’re linked to early puberty and many reproductive health issues that can follow: uterine fibroids, preterm birth, infertility and cancers (breast, ovarian and uterine), many of which disproportionately affect Black women. The products, which aggressively target Black girls and women who believe these chemicals are safe, have almost no oversight.

I began reporting a story about “creamy crack,” as chemical hair straightener products are sometimes called, for The Times Magazine more than a year ago, and it published today. At every stage, I was surprised by what I learned. I interviewed government officials and health nonprofit workers, scientists at universities, people taking part in medical studies, plaintiffs in lawsuits, politicians, historians, activists and lawyers.

I spoke with Jenny Mitchell, now 34, who had used hair relaxers nearly all her life. She’d always wanted to have children, and in 2018 she visited a fertility specialist. But what Mitchell thought would be a happy new beginning led to heart-stopping news. “During the ultrasound, the physician said, ‘I see something; I think we need to do a biopsy right now,’” she recalls. “He did a biopsy that day, and then three days later, I got a call saying that I had uterine cancer.” To preserve her life, doctors removed her uterus and then gave her chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Mitchell could no longer have children.

The new research

Black female epidemiologists raised many of the questions that propelled the new research. All told me that their personal experience drove them to pursue the connection between the chemicals in these products and the racial disparities in reproductive health that scientists have struggled to explain for decades. Tamarra James-Todd, a public health professor at Harvard, is their pioneer. James-Todd recalled sitting in a salon as a kid and having relaxers applied to her hair. It felt as if her scalp were on fire. She told me that she now knows her instinct was right: The product being put on her head wasn’t safe.

A seminal 2022 study followed nearly 34,000 women for over a decade. It found that those who frequently used chemical hair-straightening products were more than twice as likely to develop uterine cancer as those who did not. That’s the most common cancer of the female reproductive system, and the most aggressive subtypes have been on the rise for nearly 24 years — particularly among Black women.

The United States is unusually lax about these problems. While the European Union regulates more than 1,300 ingredients for use in cosmetics, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration restricts only nine. Hair relaxers marketed to children, which are packaged with bright colors and photos of adorable little girls, contain high levels of five of the chemicals prohibited in Europe, according to one study. Another found that hormone-disrupting chemicals were in plenty of creams — but not listed as ingredients on the packaging. In October, the F.D.A. finally proposed banning formaldehyde (a toxic preservative) in hair relaxers. It has not set a date to implement the rule.

Plaintiffs have filed thousands of lawsuits since the 2022 study came out. A federal judge has combined them into one big suit. But while Black women have embraced natural styles in recent years (total sales to salons and other hair professionals fell to $30 million, down by half, from 2011 to 2021), these products are still in wide circulation. They fuel a continuing — but preventable — public health crisis.

Dior supplier in Italy under fire for labour exploitation

Surprised no one has posted this yet:

I'm not truly surprised about the practice itself, read about it in Dana Thomas' book "Deluxe - How luxury lost its luster" many years ago.

What baffled me was the cited bag manufactured for 53EUR and sold for 2,600EUR. I knew luxury margins were high, but THAT high? Just wow...

"[...] This allowed contractors to rein in costs and charge Dior as little as 53 euros to supply a handbag, the document said, citing as an example a Dior model coded PO312YKY, which the fashion house then retailed in shops at 2,600 euros."

Any guesses which model it is? A friend thinks it's the Book Tote as it could be fully machine-made and all fabric.

A quick search on the Dior site only shows reference numbers beginning with M, nothing with PO.

Add to my rose or yellow gold stack?

Should I add a rose or yellow gold sliding charm bangle?

  • Rose gold to my rose gold stack

I want to add to one of my bracelet stacks but I can only afford to save up for either a rose or a yellow gold sliding charm bangle. I currently only have one so I used it as an example in both my stacks.
If I get a yellow gold, this one will stack with my rose, and if I get a rose gold, this one will stack with my yellow.
Which stack in your opinion “needs” a matching gold sliding bangle added to it?

Where to sell a brand new St Louis GM

I purchased a brand new GM St Louis via distant sale on behalf of someone else (bc your shipping and license addresses need to be the same and they hadn’t updated their license having moving to a new state yet) -for one reason or another, my kindness got me left holding the bag, literally. I don't need it bc I already have two. I see they're selling for above their retail price. I just want to get back what I bought it for - can't return to goyard bc all distant sales are final. Any insight would be appreciated.

Style dilemma: What to do with the huge v-neck on that dress?

Hi!
I will attend a wedding with a casual / not formal dress code, I have a dress, but this green one is my "emergency-dress" if the weather goes totally crazy hot.
I'm going to wear it with a wide black belt and simple but elegant sandals and the earrings in the pics, my long hair pinned up.

What would you do with that huge v-neck? Just leave it like it is? I'm pretty unsure about it...

I finally pulled the trigger on my first ever luxury bag!

I‘m so happy I finally purchased the bag I‘ve been dreaming about for the last 3 years: the beautiful Néonoé
It‘s an early birthday gift to myself, as well as a celebration of a recwnt promotion at work.
I already got some bag inserts to help with organization and I‘m so excited to get more charms for it, too!
Do you have any more recommendations for care products etc?

Authenticate this Ferragamo Wallet

Hi! I'm pretty new to PurseForum, so please excuse me for any errors.
I have never purchased anything Ferragamo before, and I recently bought this wallet from a Japanese consignment shop. (I tried to take as good of photos as I could, but the logo is still coming out a bit less intelligible in photos than it is in person.)
I was hoping to just take it to an outlet and if it wasn't real just return it, but then I found out that the outlet closest to me does not authenticate. Authenticators online seem to have very, very mixed reviews--even the most popular--and I am trying to avoid spending more money if the services are not even reliable. Any insights you could provide would be most appreciated!! Please let me know if any other photos would help :)

Hermes Double Sens Vs Evelyne in Blues...

Dear Hermes Lovers,

I'm so torn and looking for a bit of advice. I currently own an Evelyne GM in Bleu Hydra, which I just think is a magically vibrant blue. I also own a Double Sens in Bleu Electric with graphite (Grey ) inside. I think the Bleu Electric just such a cool color, and I love it. I'm wanting to buy a bag in Bamboo because that color is just straight up awesome and makes me so happy. Anyway, I'm thinking of selling one or possibly both of these bags. I also have an Orange GM, Black PM, Etoupe PM in Evelyne and I own a Rose Sakura & Bouganvillier and a Magnolia Double Sens - both pinks, I know. Anyway, I got an offer from Fashionphile for $1400 for my Bleu DS and $1800 for my BH Evelyne. They are both in excellent condition - used maybe 5-6 times each. I just don't grab for them as much being a bright blue, and I feel like the Blue Hydra is really a summery color - what do you think? Can it do Fall? Winter?

Thanks so much for your advice. The Evelyne is on left and the Double Sens on the right.
-Stephanie

PS. Or should I sell my new Etoupe Evelyne PM that feels kind of boring and also just sits in its dustbag.

Triomphe shiny calfskin resistant to scratches?

Hi! I have stayed away from shiny calfskin triomphe bags, even though I like the look of them, for fear of scratches and creasing. I don’t want to have to baby the bag. However, I was recently told by an SA that the shiny calfskin doesn’t scratch or show wear and tear that easily and that the shiny calfskin has a protective layer/coating (making it resistant to scratches)? Is this true?

Shiny calfskin owners, does your bag scratch easily and does the leather flap show creases? Does the gold triomphe clasp also scratch easily? I’m considering the classique/teen triomphe and the Claude shoulder bag. Thanks!

Rolex Owners: what do you think about oyster with celebration dial?

Recently I saw the celebration dial and fell in love with it 😍 …
What are your thoughts about it: extraordinary or childish?
I also can’t decide between 31 and 36mm. The 31mm is on the modeling pic, the next size 36mm was not available to try.
Any owners with modeling pics here? What is your experience and opinion?
Thanks in advance!

Hello all!
I need some advice .
I am reaching a milestone at work and can’t decide between 2 luxury pieces: Cartier Ecrou bracelet in YG or RG and the Rolex Datejust, two tone YG with white dial.
I own the Cartier Clash, and the Brushed Love bracelet in YG. I don’t own a Rolex. Which, in your opinion, is the best choice?
